Somebody has already said it, but normally a Friday morning in July that is grey, breezy and raining would be a horror show; however, it's a welcome sight. Just as long as it doesn't overstay it's welcome.......

It's funny - I used to like the heat, and recall enjoying the summer of 1995 in particular, and can recall 76, 83, 84 as warm/ hot summers. Having just tested negative after Covid, the record temps were something I didn't enjoy at all...... As a keen cyclist, anything between 20-25c is preferable; anything towards 30c becomes unpleasant, no matter how much one hydrates during a ride.

Probably my favourite thread; and like many others one hopes it is a 'seasonal autumn'. A gradual cool down in September, with mists & fog from late Sept/early Oct, and then a few storms in October, followed by more cooling into November, with maybe some frost., and a hint of winter. As a paperboy back in 1986, I recall a couple of bright sunny, but frosty mornings in late September......which was a shock, especially for my hands/ fingers trying to deliver papers. However, we still have a month and a half of summer to enjoy......

Oh dear, not good - but there's so much choice of excellent real ales. The 'All day breakfast' in the West Riding in Dewsbury is recommended.....

Ha ha I actually saw more ducks, moorhens & coots on the canal bank than in the canal - so they must have thought it was better on land.

Went out for a bike ride along the Leeds/ Liverpool canal mid morning, and it wasn't great; cool and wet - back in spring/autumn gear. Could easily be that time of year - not June.

I can recall the two events mentioned previously; Snow - Feb 1994: as it was my birthday, and the Winter Olympics were taking place in Lillehammer; it makes it seem real when the weather is similar. Snow - Jan 1995; in what had been a pretty mild/ dull winter. I was working in Wigan, and it started snowing about Friday lunchtime...but nobody thought anything of it. However, 90 mins later it was as heavy with no sign of it stopping. Getting to the M58 motorway was interesting, what should have taken 15 mins, took nearly 2 hours..... I think I preferred 1995/96 as it was longer lasting; we were still getting snow into February 1996. Whilst there was snow in November/December 1996, after New Year it turned milder, and the usual grey, mild dross.

Off out soon for a shortish 1-1h30 bike ride; end of May and I may well be in leg warmers; that breeze is quite cool, yet I was in shorts until December last year.

As a cyclist, Boulder, Colorado always looks fabulous; whether the tarmac roads, or the off road MTB trails.....(Not jealous at all )

I roll my eyes whenever I see/hear this comment; I'm struggling to think of a proper snowfall at Easter......

Hard, I hope not, they watered the course recently so they get soft in the description......(though I know what you mean.....)

It's wild, and as bad as I can recall. Woke up at 2:59 then dozed off, but was awoken about 4:30, and couldn't get back to sleep. I know they say all weather is interesting, but I'm not liking this at all. All the creaking, and noises....you don't know what's going to happen.

Absolute idiots. Problem is the rescue authorities are obliged to rescue them if they get into difficulty - there's no signing a waiver.......So not only do they risk their own safety, but the people trying to rescue them.

Was woken about 4 o'clock with gusting winds.....it's calmed down quite a bit compared to then.

I recall January being bitterly cold; I had a morning paper round, and I had handwarmers inside my gloves to keep my hands warm. Early March brought snow, but Easter which was late that year was very warm. I remember June being wet; the first two Test matches v Pakistan were ruined by constant rain delays. I can't recall anything memorable for the rest of the summer, though I'm sure the autumn was wet, as I got a few soakings whilst delivering papers - and trying to save up for a new Goretex jacket.

I wouldn't; but that's because the BFTE wasn't anything special in my location - a few inches of snow, virtually all gone by mid afternoon.....

Waiting for 'winter weather' in the latter half of February, is like waiting for a consolation goal when you're 0-3 down; too little, too late. The mornings are lighter, the days longer, it's not quite the same effect as in December/ early January. The only plus from this mundane 'winter' is the amount of usable weather; plenty of cycling/walking days; being out in the fresh air can do wonders.

Yes, one of those days that represent the worst of winter; dank, misty, with drizzle. etc However, it is usable weather - just back from a bike ride, and some fields are already waterlogged - just after a few days of wet weather.

Yeah, I'm similar. However, one day of late winter snow won't do it for me.....Too little too late.

I can recall that, I was working in Wigan, and the M58 was really only one lane; I'm sure they'd only cleared the one lane, as it was very rarely busy at that time.

Not a winter to remember; I can only recall the odd really cold, blue sky day. There was a brief snow shower at the end of November (and I mean brief, but no cover at all) Such a disappointment. Another one down the pan. Any cold now would be rubbing our noses in it (and it's not looking likely). However, there has been a lack of wind & rain - and that means more usable weather than normal - opportunities to get out and cycle/ walk. And not as much muddy walks/ soaking wet equipment/clothes after a ride.

I'll use a football analogy to describe this 'winter'. We're in the 62nd minute and have hardly had a shot on goal, with the odd nice passage of play, but it's all petered out - and haven't looked likely to score. If we manage a late goal (a late cold snap) it will only be a consolation. Another 'winter' defeat on the cards....
