  1. First Sunday of Advent, and we get some seasonal weather; was good to see some snow, and at times it was heavy, but didn't really make an impression on the ground - the grass was a slightly less shade of green. However, it's a start, one hopes there's more chances this winter.
  2. Ooh, it was snizzling about 15 mins ago; but in the last 5 mins it's actually got heavier. It's actually snowing......words fail me....
  3. I commented a few years ago that everything has to be 'perfect' for us to get snow anymore; the window is so small. Even the last decent snow (Feb/Mar 2018) didn't hang around for long. I think it was last Nov/Dec and I was out cycling, and the rain was freezing; however other parts had snow......typical. Never used to be like this.
  4. I'm sure something similar was mentioned on either Springwatch/Autumnwatch this year.....
  5. Looks like the perfect late autumn day; sunny, clear blue sky, a bit of a chill to the breeze. Just getting ready for 1-2 hour bike ride.
  6. A perfect autumn morning; sunny, blue sky.......Far less green on the nearby trees, but still leaves on branches.
  7. Over halfway into November, and I've just been out for a short 20 mile bike ride, in shorts.....I can't remember the latest I've worn them - possibly late Nov 2016. Breezy, and gloomy greyness, but mild. As many on here say, 'usable weather'.
  8. I do think there is something going around; as I had sore throat, a cough, and slight lethargy about 10 days ago - but not Covid.
  9. I remember 1981, as there was more than one snowfall - and I got a Grifter XL for Christmas, but couldn't ride it until New Year when the roads cleared up. While 2010 brought more snow, and colder conditions, I preferred 2009. Finally, 1995 wasn't massively snowy, but it was cold & seasonal. Though I should mention 1996. As for the bad, well where do you start? Too many horror shows - but 2015 is probably the low - going for a test drive just before Christmas near Chester, and having lunch outside in Cheshire Oaks, as it was not mild, but warm.
  10. First ride out on the bicycle in the late afternoon for about 3 weeks; just before the sun set; dry, and just a slight chill in the air - that is more the type of weather I'd like.
  11. It's only the 12th November, and I'm finding this weather rather tiresome........
  12. Conversely, most of the trees in my locale, are still full in leaf; and more green than red/yellow/brown. It seems as if nature is anything from 2-4 weeks behind. I'm hoping for a 2009 style winter, after a mild autumn (and November was wet).
  13. I think this was mentioned on the autumn forum; I look out my kitchen window, and virtually all the trees have kept their leaves, and most are still green. I'm sure by mid November last year, they were bare.
  14. I saw the start earlier today on Instagram.....don't think it seems as big as it once was (or is that just me?)
  15. A month which delivers very little - apart from mainly grey, nothingness....Not at all like the Novembers you'd like to see; mists, frosts, and hints of winter. However, seeing as our winters tend to be dire, November is almost the perfect precursor to what is to come. Saying that, 2009 was grey, wet & miserable - and the following winter was pretty good.
  16. I'm sure I was off that day, and went to Cheshire Oaks with my youngest brother. It was cold, but dry - and felt slightly festive; it was only driving home about 5-6 o' clock that it started to sleet, and got heavier, and turned to snow. One of a few snowfalls that winter - anything similar would be welcome. It's about time we saw a decent fall; the recent ones have been rather derisory......and short lived.
  17. I started an evening paper round early September, and recall most of the time just wearing a shirt & maybe a jumper if it was cool. However, by November, I started a morning round as well. I'm sure we had delays in receiving the papers due to the 'wintry weather'. I also couldn't use my bicycle all the time due to the weather during that period. I also recall the cold mornings, with frost, and cold hands whilst delivering the papers.....
  18. I actually preferred the 2009/10 winter to the following one. Sunny, dry and cold is my ideal 'winter' weather, with the odd fall of snow. Anything that isn't grey, mild, wet & windy......
  19. I remember this; I was planning on going down to the Forest of Dean to watch a rally - however, I was full of cold, and didn't fancy the drive down from the North West. In the end, I felt slightly better, and drove down; I recall the snow was deeper the further south I went on the M6/M5. By the time I got to Cinderford, it was like a winter wonderland. Funnily enough, on the same event in 2009 & 2012 there was also snow.
  20. I was going to mention this; started in Birmingham on Sunday 21st November, and took in the stately park/ homes/ race tracks of the midlands. The live Top Gear stage was in Clumber Park. The following 3 days visited mid/north Wales, Grizedale/Borders/Kielder, and North Yorkshire on the final day. Conditions in Wales were mixed; from cold & frosty early morning, to dry & dusty and then snow & ice later in the day in north Wales. Grizedale was dry & dusty, but from then on snow was the main factor, from the Borders to North Yorkshire. There is a decent amount of coverage still available on You Tube.
  21. I agree; not liking or wanting cold weather is understandable. In fact, with everything going on currently, I'm wondering if a cold winter is what we really need. I can put up with mild - in fact, if it's dry & sunny then fine - it means I can get out on the bike more often & longer. However, we normally get the grey, wet & windy mild weather......oh dear.
  22. Wasn't overly impressed with the Countryfile forecast; this week looks to be mild/ very mild. As if that's a good thing, when it brings rain & wind I'm not sure it is. Give me cold & dry.
  23. I'll tolerate this weather now (well, we have no choice) if it means the weeks/months ahead are more seasonal. If it's merely a taster........oh dear
