  1. Ooh, that's something to look forward to; how lucky we will be...... Anything but endless wet & windy please.....Weather that is 'usable' for outdoor activities.
  2. All one asks is for weather that is 'usable'; so outdoor activities are possible. Had to wait until late afternoon/early evening to go out on the bike......
  3. This is more like it!! Just been on a short 20 mile bike ride....Almost perfect cycling weather; sunshine, blue skies and a light breeze from the east. If autumn/winter was like that 90% of the time, I'd be delighted. Is there anyway of ordering this???
  4. I think that is it; winter is mainly grim - with grey, wet & windy weather. I wonder what it would be like if we had more proper cold, frosty, snowy weather - would it seem as bad? The light seems different when we have snow lying on the ground.
  5. Think I remember the December 2000 snowfall; wasn't it late night Boxing Day going into the 27th, when some of us were going back into work the next day. I remember thinking 'typical - couldn't it have arrived sooner?'
  6. I went to Clocaenog forest to watch some rallying the first weekend in November; and was surprised & delighted when you could see the hills covered in snow from the A55/A494. On arriving at the forest it was like a winter wonderland....
  7. Personally, I thought the 'beast' in 2018 was slightly disappointing; yes there was plenty of cold but a few inches of snow which disappeared by late afternoon - while other parts were snowed under. Agree about 2009/10; from the wet November, it all changed in December; cold & snow before Christmas, and the early January snowfalls. Much prefer it to 2010/11 - which after December was pretty rubbish.
  8. Yes; I can accept mild, but only if it's dry and not windy. Mild, wet & windy is the worst of all weather; (though I say that as a cyclist).
  9. Went out for a short 20 mile cycle late afternoon; it's that time of year; overshoes, waterproof jacket, and lights fitted, ready for the gloom.
  10. How many times do we see this; come winter and those synoptics disappear....and return in the spring...
  11. Yes - I have one of the Svalbard cameras permamently open in a tab; had look earlier this morning, and the snow had arrived.....
  12. December 2015 was horrific; mainly mild, wet & windy. Though I do remember going for a test drive of a car near Chester and it was sunny, bright, warm; then having lunch outside in Cheshire Oaks....a week before Christmas; it was nice, but felt wrong. Yet, a few days later having a Boxing day lunch and having to take a detour as roads were flooded. In mid/late January, I went up to Staveley, to purchase a new bike; and decided to visit a pub for lunch - they were desperate for people to keep visiting, and the area was 'open for business', despite the obvious effects of the floods.
  13. Anything that isn't endless grey, gloom would do nicely. More cold, crisp & sunny days would be preferable, with the odd outbreak of colder, snowy weather. One remembers the mild Nov 2009, with flooding in Cockermouth; and driving up to Loch Ard, near Aberfoyle to watch some rallying; it rained all weekend. Yet barely a month later an extended cold period had started.
  14. If winter was cold, sunny & crisp, then it would be much more bearable; however, it's usually a grey, wet & windy gloomfest, made worse in January after all the decorations come down.
  15. All the build up, and then it was grey & overcast; people came out into the work car park to watch - and not a lot was seen. Had to wait to get home to watch the highlights on TV. Biggest let down, since the previous biggest let down.......(probably England going out of that years cricket World Cup before the song had been released).
  16. Ah, it's still August; I thought I'd overslept by 2 months, and it's October.......
  17. I was going to mention this; from memory, while it was a long period of hot, dry weather, I don't remember it being uncomfortable. I'd often come home from work, and sit in the garden listening to the cricket on TMS. Great memories.....
  18. Went out for a canal path bike ride; wet & windy, but with waterproof gear it's okay - but it's the type of weather you expect in October........A shame it's only early August.....
  19. Going out on a 2 hr bike ride in this heat two days after the 2nd jab probably wasn't the best idea - wrecked!
  20. With this weather and the Open golf taking place, this weekend is giving me 1996 vibes......
  21. Exactly! I can handle the 30c temps, but I find low/mid 20s are far more tolerable, especially when out cycling......
  22. I'd agree with others; not as good as 1995, but that's hardly a surprise - but still a very good summer, especially after a cool May. With the football, the music, etc a great time, and with decent weather. Lots of memories of hot & sunny weather in July; finishing work and sitting in the garden for a few hours on many days, and nights out in just a short sleeve shirt. Though I have a memory of mid/late August in the garden listening to the horse racing on 5 Live from York, and quickly clouding over, and absolutely pouring down; that was the last time I sunbathed that year.
  23. Went out for a bike ride after tea; nice blue sky, and a few clouds - but, that breeze still had a chill to it; I'm still in long cycling pants. It's mid May......
  24. Whilst I like cold weather, I would prefer it mid November to mid March. It would be quite nice to have a bit of warmth without cold northerly winds. Early May, and I haven't cycled in summer clothes yet - still in the autumn/winter clothing.
