  1. Yes, we thought they were lucky to get that; but it was Christmas so they pushed the boat out a bit.
  2. Reminds me of a works Christmas night out in the Georgian quarter in Liverpool; after the meal we went to a proper real ale pub. A few of the women asked for cocktails, to which the ashen faced barmaid replied, " we're not that type of pub" - and they ended up with large glasses of mulled wine.
  3. And I bet they serve woeful beer/ale. They usually do.....the usual commercial cr@p.....
  4. Ah, nearly that time of the year; the post Christmas/ New Year period, when the lights/ decorations come down, and we get served up any combinations of dank, grey, wet & windy rubbish.....
  5. That period in between Christmas & New year when you want some decent 'usable' weather for getting outside; and typically it's pretty miserable - and while it's not especially cold, it's hardly mild. I don't think I'll be getting the bicycle out today.
  6. "At least it's mild...." Probably my biggest bugbear heard in weather forecasts/ or comments. If it's sunny & bright, then it's fine; however, it's usually what we have today.....grim, grey, wet.......
  7. Arnside was featured on Winter Walks on BBC4 at 7 o'clock this evening.......
  8. It's that 'no man's land' temperature; not cold, and not mild......just bloody annoying.
  9. Absolutely rank; the type of day we see too many of in winter; grey, murky, wet.......
  10. Cold rain, breezy and grey.......One word to describe that - Yuk!!!
  11. It's become a recurring theme; actually getting any snow - and then it sticking and getting a proper covering of it.......Another cold spell and very little to show. Saying that, this morning's frosty scene looks good.
  12. Yeah, I had to collect a prescription from the chemist, and I ended up walking in the road, as there was more grip.
  13. First frost of the winter (though there was a slight one in November). A proper winter's morning, clear blue sky, frost hanging around. I have just noticed one of the trees which has kept a lot of leaves dropping them onto my garden shed - and they're still dropping...that frost has done its job.
  14. I think its become noticeable that in the last 10 years, we struggle for snow - and when we do get it, it doesn't last very long. Even the much vaunted BFTE didn't last very long. An 'icing sugar' covering has become the best we get. One hopes that changes......
  15. Looks like a nice day, and bright - good to get outside....Something I've noticed, even in the space of a week, a lot of the trees are finally giving up their leaves, and the branches are becoming bare. Usually the time I consider 'winter' has arrived. However, there are still some keeping the golden yellow and red leaves.....
  16. I think this is one of those 'if only' situations, certainly for my locality. I've just been looking back on photos on instagram and Strava. Woke up for work on Tuesday 27th to a blanket of snow, about 2-3''. By the time I'd returned home about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, most of it had gone, apart from the areas in shade. While it remained bitterly cold for a number of days, looking at other parts of the other country was frustrating, as they seemed to have quite the dumping. I think there was another fall in early March, but this time it was wet snow, and had all gone by mid morning......... And sadly, that was the last decent amount of snow for our area.....
  17. Rain, rain & more rain; I think it was this weekend in 2009 when Cockermouth was flooded.....
  18. No, it's not just you. Normally by mid November the trees are bare, however there are still plenty in full leaf - but weirdly there's been loads of brown leaves on the ground, making you think they've all dropped.
  19. At the moment, the only consolation is that there are still plenty of leaves on the trees - and therefore some colour against the drab, grey backdrop. Once they disappear, and all that is left are bare branches, it isn't a great time. Another winter is soon upon us - and another probable gloomfest.
  20. Yeah, I was out on the bike, and it was one of those days we normally see all too often during the months of Nov - Feb.
