River leven burst its banks today, in leven. Its a pretty wide river with banks in the region of 10 to 15 ft in most places. Spoke to my father in law who has lived here all his life and he says he has never seen this b4 crazy precip totals the last 4 or 5 days!
Walk the dogs here every day and never seen anything like it. Not just the volume but the current/speed of flow is unreal. Unfortunately I've been baw deep in work so not been here to appreciate it all but the pics speak a thousand words.
Bring on the - 10 850 streamers next week tho, snow on the doorstep! Bring it on

I feel out of synch with everyone suddenly, having enjoyed a lovely snowy, sunny walk with camera this morning then been out in the frosty and very icy village this afternoon - yet all the talk is of tomorrow's potential!
Anyway, for the avoidance of prosecution, I went no more than 5 miles from home and all on foot.
I tried to get some more interesting pictures of cows but they weren't having it. Kept running away! And as for the sheep, less said the better.
Rain tomorrow night.
Magnificent captures mate. Love it.

Had to drive to Glasgow this morning at 7am after a 12 hour nightshift the boy is heading back down south for the next stage off his Navy career. Only stopped at a service station on the M74 but at the back 8 this morning it was - 10 there. Some stunning images on this thread in recent days, keeps me going through some long nightshifts , that you all!

Quick question. When you get a strat reversal does that mean the polar vortex starts spinning east to west instead of the usual west to east motion. Sorry if that sound like stupid question.
Watch this video minus 9, very helpful

I think we need to get used to the fact various models will spit out some strange outputs now, particularly 120+ hours out. The SSW will be playing havoc and the Bias corrections required will inevitably cause these variations in predictability.
I know this has been covered here and there recently but the Strat really hasn't been mastered by any model yet, yes they are improving over time and increasing the layers and grid resolution but it is still a huge issue.
For example here is a snippet from the ECMWF known forecasting issues
A link to the full table -
Known IFS forecasting issues - Forecast User - ECMWF Confluence Wiki
CONFLUENCE.ECMWF.INTUnsure how the GFS // is handling the upcoming stratosphere influence and what improvements they have made in that field but the GFS 18Z tonight certainly looks lost at sea.

Every time a blob passes over there is pretty much 10 minutes of, what seems to be almost daylight. Right now it is pitch black out the back garden (facing due East) next time there is a blob I can see everything. The blob sky is so loaded with the white stuff it's almost illuminating
