The Estofex forecast released for Friday to Saturday is intriguing...
European Storm Forecast Experiment - ESTOFEX
WWW.ESTOFEX.ORG -
Yep - a few cracks of lightning and thunder here in Reigate. Storm number 3 in as many weeks. So far 2022 is being very kind to my (normally) stormless zone! Lightning looked to be about cloud base and up. I don't think we had any ground contact.
-
Reigate has its second storm of the year! Not a bad affair for a typical UK storm, 4:00pm.
Plenty of very visible 'forked' lightning, most around the cloud base and up. It even managed to assemble a patchy shelf cloud as it arrived and looked like there was a vague, lazy rotation in the structure, though I could be wrong.
An active cell, many flashes and lots of thunder.
Nothing to shout about but very satisfying to watch!

Reigate!
We got plenty of elevated lighting with some good displays. One thumping hit into the centre of the town (hopefully not striking Pizza Express), and three minutes of continuous lightning and rolling thunder at 11:33.
It's still rumbling on, but seems to be easing for the time being despite the bright bow echo to the east of us.
A good session at last, in the storm desert known as Reigate.

Storm arriving in Reigate. It seems fairly active, too.

You know Reigate will be the only place in the SE to miss out with the local high pressure zone
The dome of doom. Yep - I mustn't pre-think this too much!

I am beginning to hope Reigate might see some action other than bonfires and quarrelling neighbours!

Not impressed with this so far. I'm siding with Estofex tonight: heavy rain and squally winds. I even took extreme measures and shut the greenhouse door.
We're ready in Reigate - just bypass us as usual!

I am indifferently watching the radar as a slender line of decaying and dull-looking showers amble towards Reigate. I don't know if they have enough 'oomph' to keep going.
So...perhaps tomorrow? I live in hope...

Agreed - I can already envision how tomorrow evening will pan out (if it doesn't do the eastward shift) - evening storms arriving in Brighton - I sit patiently watching lightning flashes way off to my south - thunder rumbles get louder as it approaches and rain falls overhead, forcing me to dangle from an upstairs window - lightning gets brighter and more frequent as it pushes to my east - mates start texting saying they're having an amazing storm - I reply saying the distant flashes and rumbles sound and look amazing
I have to sympathise and agree with you. I have genuinely witnessed a storm coming from the south, collapsing, carefully circling Reigate to the east, before resuming its activity as it moves north.
People like us are fated.

I'm sure you're all delighted to know that in Reigate we have....
....
drizzle.

Interesting sky on the Eastbourne Webcam.

Hmmm. I see the exports from France are already splitting. One lot to go east of Reigate, and one lot to go west. Perhaps I should retire to a Tibetan monastery.
-
Looks like you did well to the west of me! As expected, we just got a dusting of rain in Reigate. However, I am more hopeful of today.
-
I'm not expecting much in the Reigate area tonight. There's still a solid high pressure ramp to the east and my gauge is staying pretty steady. So it's a very dry situation, and clear skies out here in the wild east.
It would be nice to have some rain, but maybe Sunday or next week.
For those of you who see stuff - enjoy!
-
Thanks for the forecast, Nick. Well, rain is always welcome in the desert formerly known as Surrey. Let's hope we get some of that and anything else is a bonus.

Coming out of hibernation in storm-averse Reigate, I see Saturday night looks vaguely interesting. The Cutty Sark comes to mind, too....

Never mind Thunder and lightening ..the rain is biblical here in Godstone ... lots of local flooding .. newsworthy stuff!!
It'll fill that pond up!

Heavy rain and a bit of thunder and lightning near Reigate. One fed up cat. She wants to go out.
-
Oh! We just had several almighty flashes of lightning and loud thunder here in Reigate as the front passed through! Forked lightning with one crack right overhead. Nice gift towards the end of the season!

Nice sky-filling forked lightning! And it's now heading north. I get the feeling the rest is likely to be rain with the occasional "lucky flash".
I assumed today would bring nothing. How nice to be pleasantly surprised! And there's more brewing in the Channel, too.

I've been poking around the Met Office's forecasts for Friday night/Saturday early hours. I don't see there's much chance of anything for the SE. But I'm hoping from Reigate I might get to see some elevated distant lightning to the south from storms that populate the Channel..
The French webcams should be entertaining. Saturday night to Sunday I guess is our best bet. As a numpty, that's my outlook!
