  1. So happy I’m in Sardinia right now. Temps around 28-32c on average, and nights around 20-22c.
  2. I don’t think I could live in Newcastle for long periods. Even in high summer it feels cold. I was up there in August 2013, during one of the better summers of the 2010s, and it felt notably on the chilly side. Maybe temps were around 17-18c, but with the cloud and breeze, it felt colder. I think after being used to the heat in London during July that year, and temps still into the mid 20s during early August, the Newcastle temps were a shock to the system. That being said, i acclimated to the Toronto winters while I was over there, and after a week or two of minus 5 to minus 10c, a few days around 0c to 3c, and I didn’t need to wear a hat. Just place me in that same environment 6 weeks before, and I would be positively freezing lol. Back to Newcastle, I will say this. The people are very friendly and welcoming. It’s just the lack of sunshine that the Northeast gets, which could become an issue over a longer period of time.
  3. Like the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day of 2021/22. The thing is you can’t really benefit from mild temps like that at that time of year, because it gets dark too soon, and with it the air is usually damp.
  4. Come and join me in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia. It was 36c when I arrived here yesterday and 21-23c last night. This is heaven!
  5. From memory as it was 13 years ago now. It was the best out of the bad run of summers between 2007-12, better than 2007, 2008, 2011, and 12, but probably on the same level with 2010. 09 and 10 had decent hot spells in late May and June, which provided the best weather with the longest days of the year. I remember the sunny days going on for a number of weeks in 2009, and think we had slightly better weather in June that year, but June 2010 was almost just as good. July however was a disappointment, with many dull days and thunderstorms here and there. August was also a bit cloudy, with some sunny days mixed in. Overall it was a poor to average summer.
  6. Because you keep repeating yourself with the whole ‘at least then next couple of weeks won’t be producing a vile heatwave’ And these comments are said time and time again, despite the fact we’ve not had any hot weather this year so far lol.
  7. Yeah I agree here. Would easily take 21-23c all summer with clear blue skies, and the odd few days of rain and cloud, over a warmer summer with 25-26c and cloudy humid air masses, or temps stuck around 20c and cloudy. Maybe we will get lucky this summer and get more sun.
  8. That sounds like 2014, which it was similar to 2013, with a hot July, although not as hot, and a hot or very warm June. Especially during the World Cup period. We had some severe overnight storms sometime in the middle of July, but August was poor.
  9. After the awful weather we’ve had just recently, I’ll be happy with a few weeks of 25-26c with long sunny spells. I don’t like the humidity that sometimes comes with the hotter temps, but will suffer it, if it means we get some sunnier warmer spells. I hate it when it’s cloudy and humid though. Hopefully tomorrow and Friday will remain pleasant, in the low 20s.
  10. I think 15-16c is poor for late May in London. It’s not warm enough to be heading to the beach, but I could easily use this weather for hiking.
  11. This spring has been better than 2021. Only May was slightly disappointing in terms of longer sunny clear spells, but we’ve still had a fair share of warm days and nice sunny evenings, also some thundery spells. Not a bad start.
  12. Lots of high altitude clouds in the cold air. No storms, but the cloud tops are impressive over West London.
  13. I think snow becoming non existent is still some way off. It’s less often than it used to be, but I don’t see snow disappearing for a number of years just yet. Much in the same way, I can’t see us getting long hot summers every year, not at least another 20-30 years.
  14. Oh no, I think my travel plans will be scuppered with the EasyJet problem.
  15. I grew up in the 80s, and 90s. 2001 falls into the average to unremarkable category. 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, and even 1999 had better spells of summer weather. 01 just seems rather poor in comparison and forgettable.
  16. Clear blue skies now and a north easterly breeze. This is what I hope we get more of, until about September time. Dry heat feeling and no humidity. This is something we’ve been lacking for a while.
  17. A Toronto summer was sometimes more humid than say London one. Lake Ontario has a similar affect as the ocean does. But, there were often more sunny clear days, despite it being muggy and humid. On the flip side, you would get dry heat days when the wind was blowing from an Easterly direction, and not picking up the lake winds from the South. The Atlantic is 1000 miles away to the East.
  18. I think we need another lockdown.
  19. I would like it to be snowy in the winter, but I still find 10-12c in winter quite cold. It sometimes feels worse than a sub 0c day. Mostly because cloudy and damp weather makes me feel colder. When I hear of people wearing t shirts and shorts when it’s 7-14c during our ‘mild winters’ I can’t get my head around that. These are the same group of people who will constantly whinge whenever the temp exceeds 21c for a number of days from April onwards, and start complaining about the heat and humidity, even before it’s arrived lol. The coldies do get a better deal than the heat lovers in this country. No it’s not that great. The sunshine isn’t as good as it could be. I was promised blue skies by that useless itv weatherman, who walked out of the piers Morgan show a while back.
  20. We definitely need a spell of hot weather. The outlook at the moment is pitiful for late May. Anything less than 20c is disappointing, but lower than 18c is really grim. The constant cloud is something that really depresses me about living in this country. Last summer was awful, and the winter was a dull and dreary cloud fest. Toronto weather was much better when I lived there between 1999-2001. Hot sunny summers, occasional thunderstorms, and long periods of snowfall(at least 2-3 weeks during any given winter), and very cold sunny days. Our climate is dung! The lack of sunshine is something that does affect people, especially if the summer is dull and cloudy. Over a long period of time, that does affect your mind.
  21. Nothing special, but I remember the May being nice and sunny and warm. Clear blue sky days were plenty. June to August was mostly dull. Remember there being a few weeks of hot sunny weather, but for some reason nothing stands out. This was the summer which followed by 2 years in Toronto, so for me, it was a disappointment.
  22. Yes, unfortunately we had our best period for clear sunny cloudless days came around the end of March and early April. May has been cloudier than average I feel, with a number of pleasant days, but too many sky blue days giving way to cloud. The upshot has been the thundery activity though, and I feel this is setting the tone for a thundery summer.
  23. I don' t remember much about summer 2007, apart from long periods of dull rainy cool and humid days mixed in. I think I was away in July 2007, up in Scotland, and that might have been the time when storms hit the south. 2021 was hot and sunny during the first half of June, and I thought we were finally in for a good summer, but by the 15th or so it was cloudy and cool. This was during the Euros, although the first England game against Croatia was hot.
  24. I hope this is just a false start and we hit the ground running from mid June, with wall to wall sunshine until early September. Something similar to summer 1995, or 2018 but moved to later in the summer. May hasn’t been bad, but it’s not been a great one either. Something in the middle. Much better than the vile May of 2021, but not a patch on May 2020 or 2018, with those long periods of cloudless sunny days, that went on for days on end. We were spoilt for a couple of years back then. Yes it was, but it was cold and damp until the 25th or around then.
  25. So glad I decided to fly off to the med for early June. I can’t take another poor summer, especially after the rotten 2021 in the London region. Glad I’ll be having 27c-30c and long dry sunny spells. Its a real shame if we don’t get at a few weeks of sunny dry days between now and early July, as this is the period of optimal daylight hours. Late sunsets were in short supply last year, apart from that 2 and a half week period in late May to mid June. And the only other being the late July hot and sunny spell.
