  1. Potential for widespread surprise heavy snow falls from Friday onwards, I wouldn't like to see travel problems that weekend...
  2. You know it is proper snow when you open the car door and it sends up a puff of powder (which invariably goes inside the car)
  3. Snowing heavy now! Brave man going down that road!
  4. Finally arrived here, I too have diving into bed after the first flakes.
  5. Don't keep it on too long, the heat those things go off could turn your garden the wrongside of marginal!
  6. It is snowing in Cupar now so should make it to you.
  7. Plenty snow fakes to be seen on traffic Scotland.
  8. The car was encrusted in frozen dew this morning, not one of my favourite winter activities is defrosting the car!
  9. I seen proper snow today south of Edinburgh, I was quite surprised. I also narrowly avoided a pile up on the motorway there when the road iced over with hailstones. The ice was nearly an inch deep and the melted water on the windscreen started to freeze and put the wipers under some strain. Not something you'd see very often in May!
  10. I seen a house or sand martin last night, more than a month later than I saw the first last year. Probably eating their fill further south and migrating more slowly?
  11. Quite heavy, sometimes powdery looking snow in Cupar, struggling to lie on the warm ground, we've got a good inch of slush.
  12. People have been getting far too ahead of themselves on this cold spell, cross model support was only ever been outliers! Then the inevitable disappointment, even the 12z is a cold outlier! 3 days of coldish weather then back to the usual rubbish.
  13. Is anyone else not worried that the last 8 runs of nice charts have all been cold outliers on the gfs? Potential for some massive dispointment down in the south-east.
  14. The tay road bridge doesn't have a live link to their weather station, but the local radio (pretty well informed) says gusts have topped 100mph.
  15. I was surprised at how bad this was when I woke up this morning, worse than predicted surely? Tay bridge is shut, so I'm staying in the house till it is over.
  16. I am getting slightly jealous of all the action the west is getting, I've managed one dusting so far Amazing ice on my window last night.
  17. I saw a combine harvester on Saturday, latest I've ever seen one, but there are still a few fields which are uncut.
  18. Don't tar all scientists with the same brush!

  20. I and hundreds of other people are stuck in Dundee, trains off, bridge closed. I'm staying at a workmates but there must be many people who came off the train to London who are probably not having a pleasant night.
  21. Apparently they recorded 90+ mph and closed it. Some power off in Fife. I don't think we've seen it this bad in a few years let alone May. Apparently there are some poor people stuck in a car with a near on top of it near Kinross. Red warnings indicate risk to life and property? We're being let down yet again.
  22. Tay road bridge closed to everything now. Red warning anyone?

You assume that the same process is occuring now as which happened then, with the same effects. I don't think we have reached the point where we can say we have entered a minimum comparable with the Maunder, therefore you cannot assume that an observation made on the incoming radiation from the sun in the last few years is comparable to what happened 400 years ago.

What you say and what the quote says are slightly different. To become a weed either: -the GM plant must become the weed, which in practice may not be so much of an issue as it first seems since cultivated plants don't tend to do very well in the wild past a few generations. -the GM plant must hydridise with a closely related species AND pass on the inserted gene AND that hybrid has to be viable. For example if we grew GM maize in the UK it isn't going to hybridise with a dandilion. The inserted genes aren't going to suddenly start appearing in all manner of different plants.
