I live in Bolton but we tend to get lumped in with manchester in forecasts even though our weather is usually noticeably colder during cold spells. But my Meto app and and other app are both still saying rain until Friday. I’m finding it hard to believe that will be right?
Im in Horwich just near the jolly crofters pub I'm 198m asl.
Anything south of the Bolton town centre can be classed as low ground 300 feet
Head North, East and west out of the centre and you get heights from 450- 700 feet above sea level.
Where in Bolton are you?
Ps.. head to Bromley Cross and Turton areas of the town and I think they are 800- 900 feet above sea level

I think we should forget about the slider.. or at the very least see it as a temporary annoyance which gets in the way of the polar WNW’ly.
Slider or no slider (yes, it’ll probably go south), we have an entire week of cold WNW’ly winds, and the 18z has removed a lot of the marginality, even at lower levels.
A very cold and snowy run for the NW. Hilly areas will get absolutely buried.
One thing is the WNW'ly winds will have Greater Manchester in the firing line.
NNW'ly and I'll be watching south Manchester and Cheshire take a pasting

18z has the slider further south... I'm getting a deja vu feeling

Fantastic charts from the ECM tonight.
can't wait for the pennines to block any precipitation coming from the East
-
Heavy sleet now

Well if the apps are to believed you'll be building an ark not a snowman.
I'll be watching areas to my west like a hawk, although i fear i may have to set my alarm very eary- the front looks like crashing in before 5am !!
If it rains here at 198m asl then you with 200m asl will get the same..
I'l give you a shout when it's over my head lol

Drove through Bolton tonight to snow on the Ground. Got to Horwich and nowt here.
Bolton in Amber warning, Horwich ain't..
-
-
I'm utterly speechless. Nothing whatsoever here in Horwich.
Apparently there is falling snow, North, South & East of me.
-
Sleet.
Anyone below 250 -300 meters is going to get nowt.
-
MetO have me down for a period of heavy snow 18.00 to 20.00 hours....... yeah right
-
I've come to the conclusion after reading every post since this cold snap began, that St Helens is the snow capital of the North West.
-
Snowing here but nowt to get excited about
-
I'm going to give this cold snap 1/10 . Might give it 2/10 for the MetO putting us in a amber warning for a laugh

Time for a pint me thinks, that's if I can get through the 0.5cm drift near the front gate.
-
Think I'll give work a miss tomorrow. Told everyone to expect 20cm + when the amber warnings were issued.
Think I've counted about 5 snow flakes so far.
-
Couple of flakes here in Horwich.. this must warrant the yellow warnings out...
