Evening all,GFS in fantasy island showing some very serious low temperatures, not seen charts like that

for a very long time.I mentioned in my last blog that northern blocking could bring some very cold temperatures

and I believe this will be the case,MJO/7-8 EQBO - La -Nina all now pushing it’s influence and winning out

even with a strong polar vortex that may collapse in January with a possible SSW.

The vortex is nearly none existent at the end of the 12z run. The main lobe left also in a favourable part. Not seen  anything like this end of the run before! Imagine an ssw one top of it. Fascinating watch!

All I want for Christmas is for perturbation 14 of the gefs 12z ensemble suit to verify.

Full blown embedded easterly  few days before christmas!  Widepread heavy snow showers and no doubt other disturbances! Dare we dream! Something brewing I think.

  3. Where are the warnings for this snow event? I know its cropped up out of nowhere in last 24 hours, but you would think there would be warnings out for this event?

Its an absolute white out here. If it had been London or further south I cant help but think it would have been made more of a thing.

Brilliant surprise all the same, not expecting this at all. Really thick flakes now!!

It’s a total fail for us, let’s be honest. Hands down the worst easterly ever.

Its really under whelming for majority of us. I think we all expected more from this. Biggest bust for an easterly in my time of weather watching. Far cry from 2010, 2013 and 2018 which delivered and brought around 25-30cm alone from just one round! I don't know what went wrong with this one, was we over estimating the conditions or was it bad timing?
