  1. A virtual repeat of yesterday's rainfest, you can see why you are getting headlines like this - Farmers warn ‘crisis is building’ as record rainfall drastically reduces UK food production | Farming | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Reduction in yields means UK will be dependent on imports for wheat in coming year and possibly beyond Currently 7c, light winds, 100% Permagloom™ with some light rain - much heavier earlier on but that seems to be it for the rest of the day.
  2. It really is a naff spring so far... 6c, strong NW wind, rain and yet more rain.
  3. Stormy SW winds have not let up since yesterday, but they are drying up the ground at speed. 12c currently, though not feeling like that in the wind. Some decent sunny spells and feeling lovely in the greenhouse (so lucky to have that).
  4. Temperature up to 10c, overcast but dry. Really gusty winds though, one pane polycarbonate already popped out of cold frame - had no issues with that over the winter so go figure! PS - untold riches await whomever comes up with good quality peat-free compost, it's dire the stuff bought the last two years and that's spanning the range from Lidl to levington. 1st world problems...
  5. Grim repeat of yesterday's deluge, just even cooler as it's sitting at 4.8c currently. Groundhog Day in many ways as it's feels like February!
  6. Get feeling the east is the new west weatherwise, but without the relative mildness. Incessant rain, intensity waxing and waining with majority of it moderate. Cold at 6c with a brisk easterly wind. Kids now determined to emigrate. Lawn is looking a tad sad..
  7. Northernlights Legally that sounds crazy, so who is then held liable if there is an accident/damage related to a pothole infilled by a non-qualified (road construction) person?? This country gets madder by the day. As for weather, back to Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ with occasional outbreaks of drizzle in calm conditions. Cool at 7c and surprisingly had very thick fog overnight. Edit - hmm, that post time says after 12pm but just realised it is 1st April.... Mind you Aberdeenshire council wants everyone to grit their own pavements so repairing potholes wouldn't surprise me!
  8. Battle between harr and sunshine in St Andrews today, with the former starting to win by mid-afternoon. Good to see the town hoaching with people, though did feel a bit out of place not having the waxed jacket and range rover.... Car recorded max of 12c, light winds and feeling very pleasant indeed in the sunshine.
  9. Cloudy morning but decent afternoon with some decent sunny spells, max of 12c with light winds. Ground conditions utterly sodden though, the constant squelch heard when walking over the grass around Castle Fraser was a first for this time of year. Legacy of yesterdays deluge.
  10. Dreadful day so far though radar hints of a clearance coming in from the SE. Steady heavy rain/sleet mix blown in on a fresh SE wind - bitterly cold feeling when you are out, current temp 3.5c.
  11. Yesterday = yuk Today = yuk morning, acceptable afternoon Lot more sunshine than forecast this afternoon, allowing things to dry up and raise temperature up to a max of 5c. Top of surrounding hills have stayed white all day, and its frosty at the moment with the grass nice and crunchy. More soggy weather tomorrow by the looks of things. Nice pink sunset this evening.
  12. Hairy Celt Yep, Saxifraga Oppositifolia. Flowers don't last very long but lovely when out and grows easily in the garden here - just as well as the speugs have a bad habit of ripping the mounds apart, so plenty of cutting material. As for the weather, horrible windy morning of heavy showers of rain and hail - even some sleet around Alford at 8am. Afternoon a lot better with some decent spells of sunshine and the winds dying down, max of 8c. Currently 3c outside and clear skies, but as noted above the much advertised aurora is not to be seen, just a moon halo to compensate...
  13. Heavy, frequent - but brief - squally rain showers since dawn; brief spells of sunshine inbetween. Bitterly cold in that strong NW wind even though the thermometer had a max of 9c. Alpine weather so here's a shot of a alpine saxifrage currently in full bloom.
  14. Wet overnight leaving a cool (9c currently) overcast day with just a few hints of blue sky towards the NW. Brisk west wind making this a definite two jacket (fleece + outer) day. Got to love finding abandoned roads in the middle of a forest.. Leading to the remains of a croft abandoned about 100yrs ago. Sad sight really considering the amount of work that was put into building the road and dry-stone walls.
  15. The mainly dry forecast from the Met well out today as everything is soaking wet thanks to heavy showers of rain in the last 90mins or so, with just some brief sunny intervals to compensate. Currently 10c with a brisk NW wind making things feel a lot cooler than yesterday. Even though weather not brilliant plants getting into the spring mood, Corydalis now in full bloom..
  16. Much more like it, a good spring day with decent sunny spells, a max of 12c and a steady Southerly wind helping dry things out. Not often you see a birch tree wrapped around a pine tree..
  17. Really is a poor start to spring. Soggy yesterday and today, though rain intermittent this afternoon with even some hints of brightness. Cool at 6c with steady NW breeze.
  18. Finally, the sun god has returned since last visiting on the 4th Mar. All thanks to the shift in wind direction to the SW, and a gusty wind at that. Temperature also picked up, now 10c so warmest for over a week. Ordinary blue sky but oh how good to see thee!
  19. Day 7 of Aberdeenshire Permagloom™, getting a tad grating now. Cool (4c) with 100% cloud cover and drizzle off and on in the gentle SE breeze.
  20. As above, just vile. 4.5c, steady light rain being blown in on a, at times, brisk east wind. Great day for cloudscapes
  21. Good day (or should I say week) for Pantone Grey spotting... Hint of drizzle in the gentle east wind and a frigid feeling 4c. Spring is not exactly getting off to a great start.
  22. Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ in all its glory once again, with sporadic light rain being blown in on a steady SE wind. Add in a temperature of only 5c and its most definitely winterlike outside.
  23. Grim weather matched by the grim number of responses to this thread! Persistent moderate rain in the morning, now dry but very slow drying of wet hard surfaces (and its mud ahoy elsewhere). Feeling cold in a steady SE wind; thermometer alleges its 6.9c outside.
  24. After a wet weekend, that has returned the lawn to a marsh, new week off to a mainly sunny start. Overnight low of -3c, currently 5c with a steady SSW wind. Warm in the sun, definitely winter in the shade!
  25. Welcome to the first day of spring, winter says hold on and delivers a bitter start to the day as it's -5c at the moment with frost sparkling on the grass. Calm conditions and beautiful clear blue skies.
