Twas a impressive squall line earlier on for sure... Dry at the moment with even some hints of the sun breaking through the Aberdeenshire Permagloom™; theoretically mild at 7.5c but sure doesn't feel like it in the wind. Very gusty SW winds causing chaos with the bins locally (these days collections always seem to coincide with a wind warning....)

As above, lovely day with mainly blue skies (some cloud floating around mid afternoon) and light winds. Max of 6c, so colder than 10pm last night! Bennachie the star attraction today, here it is from the south from the River Don near Monymusk... Some small forlorn patches of snow still hanging on...

Classic Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ day. Mild, damp and light winds. Incredibly mild outside just now, to think there was 7+ inches of snow on the ground this time last week. /Assets/Images/logo-global.png Met Office WOW - Home Page WOW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK The UK Met Office Weather Observation Website (WOW). Unpleasant night, going by the groaning of the roof peak winds around 3am. Kids (and thus parents) finally asleep just after that. Will be zombie apocalypse in the school today if same story repeated elsewhere. No damage noticed so far bar double plastic seat jumping to the other side of the lawn, dislodging the bag of compost that was supposed to have held it down. Impressive snow melt overnight, all gone bar the 4ft snow ramp the kids built - now barely an inch high. Strong west wind and 4c with clear skies.

Currently -3.1c with clear skies. Aurora alert earlier but nought seen. Over to Sauchen in the afternoon for a walk round there, good dump of snow there as well - caught in a shower but that came and went quickly. Got to love the pink topped snow shower clouds around sunset. A good few days of snow, anymore though and it would have gotten too disruptive.

Another 1.5 to 2 inches of snow by the looks of things, very little movement on the surrounding roads. Temperature -4.7c with clear blue skies. Rough and ready ruler measurement from top of nearest kennel (which will underestimate the total thanks to wind scour and the temporary thaw couple days ago).

The radar image looks dramatic, but looking outside there is just the faintest hint of snizzle falling. Thaw continues as its 0.5c - as noted above roads are going to be treacherous this evening once the frost returns as the council seem to have been using grit with the barest minimum of salt in it. Edit - saw first Brambling for a couple of years in the garden this morning, surprised not been more Scandinavian birds paying a visit this winter considering the cold they've had over there.

Very blustery showers of snow passing through quickly, though amount on the ground seems to be only a cm or two. Temperature has hovered around -0.8c since teatime. Interesting day of contrasts. Peterhead had no lying snow, though a few hefty snow showers allowing for some lovely cloudscapes - sea very choppy, probably why the harbour was full of boats. Heading back (via a90/a96) in the late afternoon, no lying snow of note until reaching Kintore where suddenly everything turned white - goes to show how localised changes can be. Ugie Estuary car park is not recommended for sufferers of Ornithophobia, persistent blighters...
