M&M weather (murky and miserable). Constant dampness in the air merging to drizzle at times. Everything soaking wet and cold at 1c. Dead calm. Ground still waterlogged at Castle Fraser, been going there for decades (eek, age is catching up) and the marsh you see in the immediate foreground is a new one to me - usually completely dry and a great place to run the dog.

Hope SSEN aren't reading, they'll take that as a invitation for a preferred route for one of the new mega pylon transmission lines! Weather gods having a laugh outside, thermometer reads -0.9c and everything sparkling but decending from the heavens at the moment is pure rain with nare the hint of sleet. Visioning concrete ice on the car tomorrow morning

Temperature risen above freezing so the ongoing drizzle/fog just wetting surfaces rather than icing them further. Kids confidently announcing at tea that school will be closed next week due to snow - apparently the rumour going round at their lunch break. Good to see they have some meteorological interest, even if self serving!

After a bright start its gotten progressively cloudier as the day has progressed, now with very light drizzle falling. Ground still deep frozen so this freezing on contact, going to make for some dangerous road conditions if this continues. Temperature hovering just below freezing at -0.2c with calm conditions.

What a miserable couple of days, makes you want to hibernate. Cool (Max 5c) and very wet with non-stop precipitation, covering the full gamut of intensity range though mainly light this afternoon. Flooded fields everywhere and roads in similar state (though not as bad as last Wednesday). Roll on drier weather, this winter is becoming memorable for its incredibly soggy nature here.

Gorgeous start to 2024. Blue sky for the most part and dead calm allowing you feel some warmth in the sun. Lot colder than the forecast with frost not lifting at all in shaded areas. Was -3.3c at 7pm but temperature rising quickly, now 0.1c. Forerunner for yet more darned rain. Bit of a temperature inversion at play today - fewer snow patches and much more mud at the top of Green Hill compared to the path up which was consistently frozen. View NNE towards Bennachie.. Obligatory sunset photo, got to love the colours you only get at this time of year... Freezing fog patches starting to form in the usual areas...

What is really irritating is that P&J live are refusing to cancel the Peter Pan show this evening as it's only a yellow weather warning. Meanwhile countless roads closed and badly flooded and you cannot physically get there. All to keep their grubby hands on the money... Edit - big change in temperature, up to 6c in just an hour from 1.9c

Was thinking the same, only 1.3c here and it's lashing with rain. Apparently flooding starting in the usual areas on the A944, though no intention of viewing in person if I can help it. Not surprised, there will be a lot of runoff thanks to the combination of this torrential rain and melting snow cover. Dog utterly refusing to go out but it's getting thrown out to do it's business outside rather than inside!

Gorgeous day. Sunny all day, thermometer read max of 3c but the overnight snow never melted on the ground. Light wind making it a pleasure to be out and about. Last full moon of the year... Countryside looking lovely with the dusting of snow on it, shower activity visible over to the east over the North Sea...

Last few shots of the stunning nacreous display today as the sun set (shown chronologically). Very kind of Castle Fraser to have an ideally situated picnic bench to sit and relax and watch it all for an hour, the changes in colour over time was stunning, though not shown to its best with the camera phone.

Got to say, if the winter weather cannot be proper cold then the likes of today is a very acceptable alternative. Very mild with a max of 13.9c(!!), steady SW wind and dry - though 100% Permagloomâ„¢. Combination of the steady wind and mild air allowing hard surfaces to dry out for the first time in weeks - and the washing as well Plenty of people out taking advantage of the clement weather.
