I wonder if forecasters 48 years ago, living in cooler times, thought 18C in January was impossible
Let's agree to disagree then
Feel free to quote me if it ever happens.

That's a little harsh! 18.3C was recorded on the 10th January 1971 in Gwynedd. Is it that impossible of a jump to go 1.7C higher, later in the month as well?
Nothing delusional about it, IMO
That was 48 years ago and yes it is impossible.

20 degrees in Jan coming? wouldn't surprise me at all
If you honestly think that then you really are deluded.

Can’t see that sadly, especially with those high temps in the North East Pacific, which been present pretty much since 2014!
That's that then folks, winter is over before it's even started

And saying winters are getting milder just because we reached 20c in february isn't ignorant?Anyway I was only stating that weather extremes are getting a lot more frequent whether it be HOT or cold as I mentioned in one of my previous comments. Also where exactly did I say it isn't getting warmer? because I can't seem to find it....

E.G. 50 extreme heat events and 1 extreme cold event happening around the world
Which one will the climate change deniers shout about?
Whats happening around the world month on month is unprecedented.
Why are you turning it into a climate change debate?

To be fair generally i think our early springs are getting colder and our late Autumns are getting warmer, although again anomalies lile Nov 2010 can still happen.
Oh I agree it seems that extremes are becoming a lot more common whether it be hot or cold, all this talk of 40c being breached for the first time in the UK what's not to say -30c won't be breached within the next few winters.

It seems in recent years our hot spells are getting hotter whilst our winter getting warmer as 20c in winter this year proved
Coldest March day on record -4.7c in Tredegar on march the 1st 2018, so does that now mean that our springs are getting colder then?

I see where your coming from coldie, but the chances of very warm plumes during summer are much more likely than very cold blasts In winter. Baring in mind the summer we had last year, and the 2 very fine warm spells we have already endured this year... We should be slightly more optomistic of exciting times ahead... Well at least if you favour them kind of conditions.
To be honest I don't think it's more likely to have plumes in summer than cold blasts in winter( speaking from an imby point of view) I really think it depends on location and altitute when it comes to cold and snow in winter, winter 09-10, 10-11, 12-13 and 17-18 brought plenty of snow here in the valleys heck even winter just gone there were 2 snow events and one of those was in april! Plus in the past 5 years there has been 2 red warnings for snow here in south wales. Last year brought the first heatwave that I can remember since 2006! No doubt there has been warm spells in summers gone since then but last summer was truly exceptional which I can't see being repeated for a long time.

I dont think it's straw clutching coldie! There are plenty of positive signs for a much warmer and settled 2nd part of the month... It just deponds on wether you want to look for them or not!
The same thing happened in winter matt, we all got sucked into fantasy island charts that never failed to materialise. I just have a feeling the same will happen this summer also, don't get me wrong I actually don't mind a bit of sun and warmth from time to time just as long as doesn't get past 25c with high humidity and warm sticky nights!

Indeed Keith this week could end up being quite memorable considering it's now April! Hopefully all of us will see some of the white stuff at some point this week especially tonight and tomorrow!

it won't, Atlantic and jet too strong, PV too aggressive, all that weakens in April
Just like last winter you mean when we had the slider low in December and the 2 beasts from the east in March? Oh and lets not forget December 2010, winter 09-10, January and March 2013 I could go on....
