  1. I think I’ve only experienced +40 degrees once, in Sydney Dec 1994, at the time I think it was their hottest day ever, 45 degrees, presumably been broken since. Suffice to say, even with air conditioned cars and buildings, it was hellish, potentially lethal to anyone who was outdoors for any length of time. I’m not sure how this country will cope for 2, possibly 3 days of that level of heat.
  2. What’s this wet stuff coming from the sky?? That wasn’t forecast!
  3. Is there anywhere on the whole planet where differences of 28 degrees are expected within a 700 mile zone without the aid of altitude etc? Mental.
  4. Last couple of days have brought out the thunderflies here which were a nightmare when I used to work outside. Their appearance to me always signals the change from ‘nice summer’ (fresh, clear, days getting longer, flowers blooming) to ‘slightly tiresome summer’ (humid, often brown, flowers dying out, wasps). Looks like that’s very much the case this year.
  5. No, because a couple of weeks of snow and ice in the UK isn’t further evidence of an immediate existential threat to humanity…
  6. I love the enthusiasm on here for extremes of weather, but I don’t really get the excitement for predictions of 40 degrees in the UK. Apart from the obvious discomfort/health issues in a country unused to hot conditions, we all know the reasons for those possible temperatures, and what they might mean for the future, and none of them are good.
  7. Blimey, just seen the forecast for Sunday. There’ll be some damp union jacks, glad I’m a Republican!
  8. I’m no expert but doesn’t heat always lurk in North Africa and Spain in June?
  9. For whatever reason the current weather seems to be much better.than the medium term forecast . A few days ago it was all looking like cool cloud, but the last few days have been cracking, if a bit blowy. The weekend looks much better now as well. ??
  10. Winter decides to make an appearance right when my leccy and gas bills go up from £58 to £225 a month. ‘WHY DO YOU HATE US WEATHER GODS??’
  11. Great post. As a very casual follower of the weather I still find it incredible that science has worked out how to predict storms like this days before they even form. I’ve no idea whether Eunice’s intensity was down to climate change, but it seems inevitable we’re going to see many more storms like it in the next few years.
  12. Definitely the strongest winds of the day now. Typical Lincolnshire, last to everything.
  13. Seems like either the storm is moving slower than expected, or those of us in the midlands and Lincolnshire are going to be spared from anything too bad. Anyone have the latest track?
  14. Yes Ive noticed when I drive how much I have to clear the windscreen. The thought of breathing that stuff in isn’t pleasant. Boring but benign sums up the current situation.
  15. That rather depressing stat about there being more white Easters than Christmases looks safe again. Well maybe not next year, Easter is on April 17th but you never know..
  16. Was looking at a record I have of a bike ride I nipped out on last Christmas Day. Surprised to see it was just 2 degrees at 11ish. I definitely remember it was a fairly sunny day. Looks like it might well be similar this year.
  17. I wasn’t particularly ‘moaning’ about the model thread, I was just trying to highlight the difference between what is frequently modelled( lots of extremes of hot in summer and freezing cold/snow in winter) and the weather we mostly get(average). As I’ve said before, I think we’re very lucky to live in a climate as benign as the one we have in the UK, even if it is boring from a weather enthusiast’s point of view.
  18. I love the model discussion I really do, but if in October someone said we’re getting varying levels of miserable crap for the next 6ish months they’d be more accurate than most of the contributors.
  19. Took the bike out for a ride today. Cool, cloudy day but I thought it would at least stay dry. No such luck, got a thorough soaking from some fairly poxy looking showers. Goodbye summer 2021, you won’t be missed.
  20. Awful, dreary day again here. Poor weather I can take, but when people not that far away are giving it large in the sunshiiiiiiine, it’s torture!
  21. Cheers. Considering we’re under HP, it has been truly miserable this week, other than a few hours on Tuesday. In keeping with the rest of the summer in these parts I suppose.
  22. We’ve been plagued by light showers all week, which seem wholly confined to Lincolnshire. Anyone have an idea as to why that is?
