  1. Sahara dust muting the colours this morning. Sundog to the left hand side now looking rather void of any rainbow! 11.1c 7.2c dp
  2. 12:00 obs 14.1°C 6.9°C dp Sun well and truly out and white cloud being replaced by haze
  3. I do always remember this storm and sticks out as a good one in the last decade or so. Temperatures had peaked around 32°C at the weather station at Gravesend. Lovely warm evening (24/25°C) before the sky to the south started turning darker around 7 pm, big old shelf cloud with the sunset illuminating an orange glow underneath it. A real beauty of a storm, gust front accompanying it as it went right overhead. I do wish for another storm like it photographically with the sunset illuminating it. I'm sure French imports have had similar features over the years but shrouded in the dark. Don't think the storm was particularly of notable intensity but the look was just amazing from a typical Spanish Plume setup which usually brings the storms well into the night over to Kent.
  4. It does give me quite the giggle when you venture into MOD and see people wetting themselves at a snowy easterly at 384h. All for 20c and sun now!
  5. Shouldn't be too far along from you. Cloud has just disappeared from here.
  6. Can see how the milder air has truly moved in on the Herstmonceux soundings. -12.3°C at 850 hPa on the 10th at 0z, compared to 0.6°C at 850 hPa today at 0z.
  7. Herne Bay Maximums last week: Monday: -0.1°C Tuesday: 0.9°C Wednesday: 1.4°C This week: Monday: 10.9°C Tuesday: 10.0°C Wednesday: 10.8°C
  8. Cold 7/10 Snow 8/10 It was quite a snowy spell here as far as I'm concerned. The ground temperatures though including the sun were a very big factor in the snow settling here on the Sunday but the amount of snow settling did certainly impress me for a coastal town here with 12 cm as a peak on the morning of the 11th. Showers off the sea on the 10th truly made it the best day of the spell, bit of sun and snow reminds you of the winters of 1987/1991. Takes a lot for some snow like that here on the coast and with more on the ground than BFTE, I'm quite chuffed. Although, there was a lack of clear cold nights so my minimum was only -3.3°C. Reminds me of a similar fashion in which Manston only dropped to -1.5°C on the 9th of Feb 1983, despite there being 16 cm of snow on the ground. An ice day in 2021 can't be scoffed at though, certainly very impressive. I would have liked though for clearer, colder nights and not the curse of Storm Darcy holding back convection until the 10th when it fizzled the next day. Snowiest spell here at sea level anyway since Feb 2012 in one of the most negative AO winters on record.
  9. Never thought I'd say 3c felt warm last night but it did. 2 cm at midnight with still pretty much a full grass cover. Now at 8 am there's nothing. 6.3c 5.9c dp 1 mm
  10. 10:00 obs Overcast Ground still completely covered with snow, completely gone from roofs in front. 0.6c -6.1c dp (min of -0.8c) 8th consecutive day with snow cover
  11. 15:00 -0.3c -8c dp (0.1c max) (min DP of -9.9c) Light cloud starting to move in Snow clearly just evaporating to gas, all patches of places where snow had fallen before are dry.
  12. Brrr. Bloody cold out there today. Only walked in the garden for a little bit and hands are already frozen. -1.1c, dp of -9c and gusting about 15 mph in the garden. Windchill of -10 seems about right.
  13. Nowhere got under that -10°C mark last night. Marham came very close at -9.7°C
  14. Nearly 5 inches of snow on the ground here. Amazing way to end off a cold spell. 1 cm off Feb 1986 which dumped 13 cm here 3 cm off Jan 1987 which dumped 15 cm here 5 cm off Feb 1991 which dumped 17 cm here
  15. Convergence zone sat mostly over that area. It's why things keep pepping up as they hit near Margate and seemingly hold onto it.
  16. Double digits now. Going to be another 20 years before I see anything like it knowing the weather at this rate.
  17. What is your max snow depth you've recorded over the last years? I'd presume the highest would be Feb 2012
  18. Only time I can brag about anything snow related. Let me have my 2 seconds of fame.
