  1. yay... its starting to thunder here...its getting quite dark.... seems like il get a storm
  2. looking at that random mix of years, it doesnt really support the 'global warming' theory does it!!
  3. not at all, they are beautiful critturs!
  4. here!...lol birch trees are notoriously shallow rooted, so any prolonged period without rain will result in shallow rooted trees dropping older leaves.. its perfectly normal. last year i was chuntering on about 'leaf fall' as several trees had started to 'colour up' in late july. after a period of sunny weather the second half of july last year was very dull... interestingly, in this drier but sunnier july, those same leaves have not yet started to colour up, therefore last years event was probably due to the dull weather.
  5. my friend recorded 14 consecutive days of temps of 25c or over... a record?
  6. "a small risk"....... that means theres a big risk that it wont heat up. bugger. http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif
  7. an area of thundery rain and dull grey clouds currently getting derby wet i would not call it a 'storm' though, not violent enough, nor any real structure to this feature. frequent lightning is mostly rather weak.
  8. surely 1 crack of thunder doesnt constitute a 'storm'...? had some lightening this morn 12.30 am. 2 minutes of heavy rain... the thunder was pretty pathetic though, this morning there was several decent rumbles in the distance, its dark here now, several more pathetic, almost apologetic rumbles plus some rain... as usual just a bunch of crappy thunder, grey skies, nebulous cloud-forms, just thundery showers... NOT a 'storm'.
  9. 29c here by midday.... we must top 30c now
  10. normaly i dont want rain, cutting wet grass is no fun, cutting sparse dry grass is fun! easy money! but theres a fine balance between drought and too much. well after tonights possible rain (i bet we get nowt) theres nothing on the horizon for the foreseeable future....
  11. have a whip round, that would be helpful. im a horticultural technition, (i cut grass) after a cold spring when i lost a whole 2 weeks work due to the late start, the last thing i want is a drought this summer... heat and storms please!!! i see no useful rain until at least the breakdown of the next hot spell...
  12. after watching (on the radar) a huge band of rain with bright echos advancing towards me.... it disintergrates into nothing much but drizzly moisture! i need rain, lots of it... derby is a desert!, i need rain to water the gardens, i lose income big style if its too dry...
  13. ive not seen a uk storm like that for over 30 years..... however in the 60's-early 70's they were quite common.. we had 5 decent lightening strikes last night, and a light shower.... thats it
  14. very dull just here, storm just missing us to our west  very nice clouds though
  15. theres nothing unusual about daffs appearing by late november, as a professional gardener i dont start any winter digging on my sites until the daffs are through so i can dig around them. ive usualy completed my work by crimbo...
  16. jeez...its blowing a gale here, rain showers, leaves everywhere..
  17. hi... ive pm'd you torz, but if you cant read it.. no probs mate, i knew your intentions, sorry if my reple sounded harsh.. http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif oposing views woody?... i hate the cold, whilst im in a minority here, id be more then happy if we never had another frost ever again. today is gorgeous! low cloud, cool temps, no wind, gloomy... i love it! i can work, detect, be outside and feel totaly comfortable! i like the mists, the darkness... its a weather type that i enjoy... but in summer... the more sunshine the better! 30c plus is heaven..
  18. a few rumbles out of a cell passing eastwards, just south of derby... looks like a breif heavy shower..
