  1. I often see a lot of people wearing winter coats here when it's in the mid teens or whenever there's a threat of rain lol. But I've been up to the North East and seen people wearing t-shirts on a cold foggy day. Like being in a different world!
  2. Disagree with this. In the past decade I only remember June 2010, July 2013, June 2014, July 2014, June 2018 and July 2018 as the only summer months with any memorable heat.
  3. You wouldn't like it at my college then. A lot of the classrooms are around 24c. Now that is too hot!
  4. Arrr don't say that. It may be a bit cool and breezy but the sun still has some strength in it.
  5. Hmmm... Not so sure about that. Here in East Lancs, our summers are wet, cool and miserable at the best of times, but I think this summer, if you take out the 1st half of June and the last few days, has been pretty decent here. In July, it was generally 19-22C most days which is fine by me. We had a few wet/cooler days but we have had quite a a lot of sunny days around 21c this summer which is perfect weather as far as I'm concerned. And I don't think it's been as westerly as you think. Summers 2016/17 were very poor here and were very Atlantic Driven, they had a lot of brisk westerly winds with frequent weather fronts, rain bands and showers. This summer has been quite a lot better than those two summers imo. The rain has tended to fall less frequently in the form of sharp heavy showers or the odd wet day then dry for the next few days rather than active weather fronts most days. At one point in July my grass was starting to turn slightly brown before the thunderstroms came. That never happened in Summers 2015, 16 or 17.
  6. I think me and most other people would become hypothermic if we stayed overnight at your house lol.
  7. Is it? I've always considered high summer to be mid-late July. That's when the highest temperatures tend to be. It's almost been 2 months since the longest day as well.
  8. Pretty much the same here in NW, rain overnight, overnight minimum again of 9.8°C. Mostly sunny here with a bit of fair weather cloud. It's breezy though and it's only 16°C so nothing to get excited about in mid August.
  9. Yep. 16°C, Sunny Intervals, stiff NW Breeze. That’s more like it - a proper British summer at last.
  10. I’m surprised at that figure as it hasn’t felt anywhere near as wet as summer 2012 or even summer 2017, both summers it just seemed to rain all the time. Whereas I think this summer, the rain has tended to fall less frequently but more heavily when it has fallen, often in the form of short sharp showers or thunderstorms. Yes, there’s been a few wet days but plenty of warm dry spells in between, which summers 2012, 2017 (and even 2016) were lacking. So the statistics don’t always tell the full story.
  11. I noticed that when I opened the bathroom window today. Definitely an autumnal chill in the air despite the sunshine. Just 16°C here with a moderate breeze, 9.8°C minimum last night, more like a typical September day. Temp down to 19°C indoors and it feels a bit chilly, put the heating on for half an hour to take the chill off.
  12. Lucky you! I'm going on holiday to Barmouth on the west coast of Wales for a week. I'm normally quite lucky with the weather on holiday (had a cracking week during the last week of August 2017 in Paignton, Devon) but i don't think I'll be quite so lucky this time... You wouldn't like my black cat then as he kills something almost every day. Birds, frogs, voles, field mice, pretty much anything. He even got a wood pigeon once.
  13. Well if you enjoy 16° weather with thick grey clouds, brisk winds and squally showers then good for you, most of us prefer something that more resembles summer. You sound a bit like my mother actually. Shes been complaining that it's been too hot for weeks. Constantly flinging open windows all the time. She actually enjoyed summer 2017 which was a horrible summer imo. It was 17° and sunny intervals on Wednesday afternoon with a moderate breeze and she thought it was perfect summer weather. Mind you, she does come from the north east where people go out at night in the cold in t-shirts. Lol.
  14. Lucky! A pathetic 14.5°C here, my coldest day since Thursday 13th June! August does tend to feel autumnal here too.
  15. Not sure what you're talking about really, as October here usually does feel like October! I remember having one sunny 18°C day last October and one day above 20°C but it was mostly cloudy and windy. The rest was all low to mid teens and then single digits by the end of the month - not what I would call August weather! In fact we get more October weather in August than we do August weather in October. As for September 2017, it was a horrible month here. Extremely wet, very cloudy and barely any warmth whatsoever.
  16. Regarding how this summer has been so far, I would describe it as a sort of sandwich summer. The cold and wet 1st of of June, followed by a decent July, followed by (what is very likely) and cool and wet 2nd half of August. Kind of the opposite to summer 2009 which had a decent June and August but a poor July.
  17. Well to add insult to injury, it's been wall to wall cloud all weekend but just as it gets dark, the cloud magically disappears and the skies are now completely clear. Max temp today a more than pathetic 14.5°C. It's currently 11.6°C now. so if it stays clear all night it will probably dip into single digits in the first time for weeks. Will probably be back to cloudy when I open the curtains tomorrow lol.

  19. Saturday Overcast and Windy with Periods of Rain Temp 16 Sunday Overcast with occasional drizzle Temp 14 What a miserable weekend. Feels like Mid October not Mid August. Another crap August as usual. That said the Suns just decided to pop it's head behind the clouds for a few seconds.
