  1. Lol Wow I think that’s the lowest indoor temp we’ve seen yet on this thread! Even colder than Markyo’s house, and that is hard to beat! Could you see your breath in there? At that temp I can see my breath. Coldest indoor temp I’ve seen so far this winter has been 15/16°C and the heating isn’t on overnight, guess I’m lucky in that I must live in a well insulated house. Highest indoor temp I saw during that intense summer heatwave in July was only 27°C as well. Since this thread has been created we’ve seen some extremely low and extremely high indoor temps. Can’t remember what the highest indoor temp was. Its been a mad year for weather, first the extreme heat in the summer and now extreme cold. Despite the cold December it won’t stop this being the warmest year in record in the U.K., due to the fact that the last 11 months have all been warmer than average.
  2. Or a continental high and low pressure to the west pumping up southerly winds from North Africa like what happened in February 1998 and 2019. 21°C recorded in Wales that Feb. Looked at my phones weather forecast, forecast to reach 10 degrees next Monday, can’t believe it! Not everyone likes cold weather, especially when so many are struggling with heating bills. Ill happily take the milder weather, even if it means rain. Yeah I’m the same as you, like it mild or warm most of the time but I do like a bit of snow in winter, it looks pretty and I like walking in it, especially when it’s proper deep snow and not slushy or slippy. I agree. Cold weather without snow is just a waste imo. Had a bit of snow here but not much. Last couple of days have just been cloudy and really cold so I’m ready for a change now, even if it means rain. Gosh! Makes Britain seem sub-tropical in comparison. I’ve heard people say though that Canada gets a drier cold than the U.K. so it doesn’t feel as cold as the temps would suggest? I would like to experience -20°C in the U.K. just once, just to see what it feels like. I know. The cold has come at the worst time. Many are having to dress like an escimo in the house because they can’t afford to run the heating. Can’t wait till that first warm sunny spring day when I can get the shorts out! Interesting. Most people feel the cold more as they get older. For you it’s been the reverse. The cold weather and lack of heating that many will have to endure this winter might make people more cold tolerant, which might not be a bad thing. Wow that’s amazing, if it was -20°C here, I don’t think that house would ever even reach 18°C. I live in a brick house which I assume would be better for insulation? My back porch which has a glass roof gets really hot in summer and really cold in winter. ATM it’s barely above freezing in there! It’s like a walk in fridge at this time of year. It made it colder? How did that happen?
  3. I’m living with parents too but luckily they have the heating on a bit warmer! Thermostat is set to around 18°C between around 7-9 am and 3-9 pm, and 15°C between 9 am and 3 pm. Heating is off the rest of the time. The thermostat is in the hallway so the other rooms are usually a degree or so warmer than whatever temp the hallway thermostat is saying. Are you a penguin? Is that because your parents are working and don’t get in till 5? Maybe you could sneakily turn it on while they are out.. Or get one of those portable room heaters. Our heating comes on at 3 pm. During a cold spell the indoor temp can dip to around 16°C during mid afternoon before the heating comes on. My bedroom temp hovers around 16-19°C at this time of year, which is usually comfortable enough for me. At the moment it is currently 16.8°C with 68% humidity. I even open the window on some evenings! The sun does help warm the house on a cold day, And despite the really cold weather lately at least there has been a lot of sunshine. My bedroom faces north so gets no sunshine most of the year but the south facing lounge and dining room are a lot warmer in winter when the Sun is out.
  4. Yeah one of my trees still has a few leaves left. Really odd considering how cold it’s been, and unusual for leaves to still be on the trees this late in the year. Guess it’s because of the very mild autumn. As for autumn not being over I feel the weather is more important than Weather the leaves are still on the trees.
  5. Hi all I decided to make this thread following on from the “what did you think of summer 2022?” thread. I want to do a thread like this after every season. So, how did this autumn go for you? it would be fair to say for some of you, autumn may not finish until December 21st, or when it no longer feels autumnal for you. I think also what makes an autumn great can be subjective and varies from person to person. One person for example might think an autumn is amazing if it rains all the time. For me overall, I thought the autumn was best at the beginning and got worse as it went along (going off the meteorological definition of autumn starting on the 1st September and finishing on the 30th November). From the 3rd to the 10th September I was on holiday in Scarborough, which was a warm but really wet week in most places but I got lucky as it was a mostly dry week in Scarborough and it was still pleasantly warm most of the time as well. Back at home I think it was wetter so I got lucky. The second half of September was good for dry and sunny weather but temperatures were a bit on the cool side for me, I would’ve liked it a bit warmer. After last year’s very warm September and a hot August, it felt a bit cool in comparison. October was okay, it was very mild most of the time with temperatures in the low to mid teens but there was a big variability in the temperature, with daytime temperatures rarely deviating from 12 to 16° C. There were no Indian summer days or cold days, at least here anyway. So I would’ve liked a bit more variety. November was very mild but also far too wet and dull, which November usually is. Probably my least favourite month. It was raining almost every day and some days barely seemed to get light. So in summary: September - a bit too cool October - lack of variability and warm days November - far too wet and dull Overall, I can’t really give this autumn a higher score than 5/10 (okay). I enjoyed last autumn a lot more. What did you guys and girls think of it?
  6. Yeah I agree. I think less people (even some die hard coldies) will want a cold winter this year. Of course it’s Sod’s law after a decade of mostly mild winters we get a prolonged cold spell. There are signs it will turn a bit milder as we get closer to Xmas. It’s snowing here today, for the first time since about February. Temp 1°C. Brrrr.
  7. I’ve watch Dr Eric Bergs videos too. His advice is really good. I’m attempting to start the keto diet he recommends in his videos. I watched the one about kidney stones - worst pain he ever experienced. Best way to prevent a stone? Drink 2.5 litres of water a day! I guess this isn’t the only time times have been this tough. Maybe people should start doing that again, instead of just going to the supermarket for everything. Might be more people going back to that as times get tougher. Can you imagine popping down to your local park or canal, taking out a gun and shooting the ducks and geese! I had a couple of ferrets as pets when I was a kid. They made good pets generally, we had a girl and a boy, but sadly both of them died from cancer.
  8. That’s very low indoor humidity! My indoor humidity is practically double that! You are bonkers lol. Have your legs turned blue yet? I don’t like either extreme tbh. Just give me 10-20°C, some sunshine and fair weather cloud and I am happy. I am 15.5 stone now, not very muscly but the extra weight definitely helps to keep you warmer! The downside is it also makes you feel hotter in summer too!
  9. I know but some people can’t afford it sadly.
  10. I bet you still have your shorts on and your windows open… I couldn’t agree more, Late October to Mid March period sucks for weather. That said, I do like going for a walk in deep snow so that’s one good thing about winter for me. There’s not much in Buxton at this time of year, it’s the coldest place in England! More like bloody freezing up here! Frost all day, temp barely got above freezing, temp dropped to about -4 last night, it has been sunny though. I know it’s such bad timing. It’s Sod’s law that we have a decade of mostly mild winters, then right in the middle of an energy/cost of living crisis, we suddenly get a severely cold spell of weather.
  11. Surely everyone must have turned thier heating on by now, unless they can’t afford to of course. My heart goes out to those who are sat in freezing cold houses right now. It got down to about -4°C last night here. Im just glad I’m in a nice warm house. Its Sod’s law we get a decade of mostly mild winters then in the middle of an energy and cost of living crisis we get a freezing cold period of weather. Looks like it was.
  12. My post wasn’t serious, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out that if you are sat in a room at 10°C in just shorts and a short sleeved shirt, then of course you are going to feel cold, well, unless you are Markyo.. lol. If they tried the experiment again but the man wore thermal clothing, hat, gloves, warm socks and a scarf, I bet the results would be a lot different.
  13. To anyone struggling with thier heating bills, I have discovered an ingenious new method to drastically reduce your heating bills… Okay here goes… 1. Walk up to your thermostat. 2. Take a look at what temperature it is set to. 3. Divide that number by two. 4. Set your thermostat to that temperature. 5. Now all is well and good, however, after a few hours, you may notice a chill on your torso… 6. To help mitigate this, have a look in your wardrobe. See if there are any warm garments that you can wear ie hoodies, jumpers, sweatshirts, thermals etc. 7. Put on as many garments as you need go until you feel warm enough. So there you go, that is my ingenious new method on how to drastically reduce your heating bills.. Thank me later.
  14. Weather back to normal now yesterday was horrible 8C max and rain most of the day. ️ Hate this time of year. Counting down the days until spring!
  15. Yes, summer 2013 was nice although the hot and sunny weather was mostly confined to July. I am quite a warm blooded person, so my ideal temperature range in summer is high teens or low 20’s. Anything higher is too hot for me. This summer had temperatures often above that, which is why I preferred the more temperate summer of 2021, which was still quite warm, dry and sunny (compared to average) up here.
  16. It’s been a glorious day, high of 13 and sunny all day. Been lovely and warm in my south facing dining room. Amazing how low the sun is at this time of year though. Wish it could be like this all winter! Bet you’ve been out in your shorts and t-shirt all day.
  17. Summer 2021 was decent here. Plenty of dry, sunny and warm weather. Nothing really too hot or too cold. August 2021 wasn’t that great here but June and July were awesome.
  18. Hopefully next summer will be a lot more average. Speaking of summer it could feel quite summery in many areas tomorrow!
  19. It’s been really wet here too, in fact I don’t think I’ve had a day where it hasn’t rained this month. I know it’s November, but this is ridiculous! ️️️
  20. Ours is on a thermostat too. Set to around 18/19°C from 3-9 pm and first thing in the morning and off at night.
  21. 27°C?? Christ, I don’t know how you Londoners cope with that kind of heat indoors. It only reached 27°C indoors here during the extreme heat in July, and I was boiling, I dread to think how hot it got inside your place. Interesting stuff. I do keep a record of indoor temps myself (as well as outdoor temps and humidity etc) but not to the same extent you do!
  22. Probably more efficient to just leave it on longer rather than keep turning it on and off.
  23. Wow that’s a lot! Certainly made up for the summer drought! The warmth has come at the right time though in the middle of the energy/cost of living crisis. I’m personally hoping it continues until next April.
  24. Very foggy tonight here. Usually the case on bonfire night due to all that firework smoke.
