  1. It has felt quite summery on my weeks holiday in Scarborough. Temp around 18-21°C with plenty of sunshine and quite high humidity. Not had that much rain either, didn’t need to wear a waterproof jacket once. Although the rain has been frequent it has been mostly light and not lasted very long, apart from Tuesday afternoon when the heavens opened for about 20 minutes during a thunderstorm. It has been a bit cool in the mornings and evenings, but you expect that. Looking at the recent posts on here it looks like the last week has been a washout in most other parts of the country. I have obviously been very lucky. That said the east coast is one of the driest parts of the country, so it’s probably not that surprising.
  2. Thanks. Yes I really like the climate on the east coast because it doesn’t rain much and the temperatures are comfortable (in summer at least). There is also plenty of sunshine and a nice sea breeze. Back home in East Lancashire, the weather is too dull and wet, winter is a misery and summer can get too hot at times. Today I’m travelling back home so I’ll leave this thread now. I’ve enjoyed my short stay in here.
  3. It will be interesting to see the difference when I travel back home tomorrow. Looks like I’ve missed a lot of rain. Some lovely pics of Scarborough I took today, yesterday and the day before. The sea was really rough yesterday. Had a nice meal in an Italian restaurant. Saw a lovely cat sat in a shop window and came across an extremely tame grey squirrel. It came right up to me. Another nice day today. Mostly sunny with a high of around 19 degrees. Felt very warm during the afternoon. Going back home to boring old Lancashire tomorrow (sigh).

  5. Another fairly pleasant day in Scarborough. The morning was overcast with light rain but then during the afternoon the sun came out and it felt quite warm. Temperatures very moderate (observations from Bridlington) with an overnight low of 14.0°C and a high of 17.6°C. Winds fairly light and humidity quite high in the 90’s % a lot of the time. Didn’t really feel humid though. Bridlington MRSC (East Riding of Yorkshire) last 24 hours weather WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Bridlington MRSC last 24 hours weather including temperature, wind, visibility, humidity and atmospheric pressure I have found the temperatures and weather very pleasant in Scarborough this week. The gentle sea breeze is nice too. I like the more stable mild temperatures and better weather than I usually get back home in Lancashire. The east coast has a very moderate climate, with cool/mild summers, small difference between day and night maxima/minima but not a lot of rain, which I like. Not that interesting from a weather enthusiasts point of view but a lot of very pleasant, benign and useable weather. Locals very friendly too.

  7. Don’t know what it’s like in Sheffield but it’s not been too bad on my holidays in Scarborough, temps high teens low 20’s, humidity around 70-80%, with a refreshing sea breeze. At the moment it is cloudy and 16°C with 93% humidity. Despite the high humidity it feels comfortable because of the low air temp.
  8. I’ve been in Scarborough all day. Been another nice day with plenty of sunshine. Bit cooler than yesterday in the ESE breeze. High about 19°C. Went in the sea, water wasn’t that cold but the waves were quite rough, so I didn’t want to chance swimming in it, only went in as far as waist height. Quite a cool evening now. Currently 17°C with 87% humidity.
  9. Meant to post the following yesterday but it didn’t for some reason. Another mostly nice day in Scarborough. A mix of sun and clouds and feeling very warm when the sun was out. The high was around 20 degrees. Had a brief shower mid afternoon but luckily we were in a cafe while it was raining. Shortly after we got back it started raining heavily and there was loud thunder and a few flashes of lightning. This lasted for around half an hour. First thunderstorm I’ve experienced since last year! Wasn’t expecting a thunderstorm while on holiday, the first time that hashappened to me I think. Had chicken panini for lunch and steak pie and chips for tea.

  11. Another nice day in Scarborough. Plenty of sunshine and pleasantly warm again. Temp reached about 22C according to the observations at Flyingdales: Scarborough (North Yorkshire) last 24 hours weather WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Scarborough last 24 hours weather including temperature, wind, visibility, humidity and atmospheric pressure Wind has got up now, making it feel much chillier. Forecast on phone app is for thunder/rain tomorrow. Would be nice to see sone thunder, as I haven’t had a thunderstorm since last year. A bit of rain this evening but barely anything, just made the ground a bit damp. Amazing how much drier it is on the east coast compared to Lancashire. Currently 17°C with 88% humidity. Took some lovely pictures. Had a huge burger in a pub tonight. Spotted a false widow as well - eek! 🕷

I know meteorologically speaking were in autumn now but most years the first half of September is just an extension of summer. Just like how the first half of March is usuallly just an extension of winter. I’m not surprised about the warm nights. The sea temps are at their warmest at this time of year, and this year they’re very warm. We’re in a warm airmass too. Next few days forecast to be showery with highs of around 19C in Scarborough.
  13. Hi. I’ve just joined this thread as I’m on holiday on Scarborough for a week. Arrived on Saturday evening. Very little rain here too. Hopefully it stays that way, until Saturday when I go home! It was very mild last night, a warmish day and another very balmy night, which I imagine doesn’t happen that often on the east coast. According to my phone it’s currently 17C with 87% humidity in Scarborough right now at midnight. Small diurnal ranges are very common on the coast. The humidity has been quite high but that has been counteracted by sea breezes.
  14. A nice day in Scarborough today. Mostly cloudy in the morning but increasingly sunny as the day went on. Don’t know the temp but according to the local weather observations at Flyingdales it reached 22°C. Stayed dry until around 9 pm when there was some very light rain, in the darkness it was barely noticeable. The rain is so much lighter on the east of the Pennines. Another very balmy night, unusual for the east coast. At nearly midnight it’s currently 17°C with 88% humidity (according to phone app).
  15. I am now in my apartment in Scarborough and being the weather geek I am I’ve taken my weather station with me! Current indoor conditions 22.3°C with 66% humidity.
  16. Arrived in Scarborough this evening. Nice place. Like being on the east coast. Travelled there by bus all the way! Used four buses in total - Colne to Keighley, Keighley to Leeds, Leeds to York and York to Scarborough. Was cheaper than the train but took ages - was ok until we got to Leeds but the next two buses to Scarborough were cancelled so we had to get the bus to York and then had to wait in York for ages for the Scarborough bus. Set off shortly after 10 am but did not arrive in Scarborough until after 7 pm! It was a long and stressful journey, think we’ll get the train next time. Weather has stayed dry all day for me, with some hazy sunshine. Some spots of rain this evening in Scarborough though. It has been quite a warm and humid feeling day but then once we got to Scarborough it was noticeable how much cooler it was. Always seems to be cooler on the coast in summer, probably due to sea breezes. The same temp at the coast can feel much cooler than the same temp inland, in my experience. The forecast for the next week in Scarborough looks changeable - showery, dry some days, temps moderate around 18-22°C.
  17. Not been on here for awhile, but I think it’s been a decent summer here in NW England. Not the excessive heat and drought that the south has had to endure, just pleasantly warm and dry generally, although there was two days of extreme heat in July and temps in the high 20’s for about a week in August. Guess who’s going off on holiday to Scarborough tomorrow, the same day the weather turns unsettled... Oh well, at least it’s going to be quite warm. Warm rain is better than cold rain.. Unlucky given the very dry summer. Usually August is unsettled and it dries up as soon as the schools go back, looks like it’s the opposite way round this year. Decided to go in early September to beat the crowds and because the accommodation is cheaper, but looks like I’ve been a bit unlucky with the weather this year. Hopefully as it’s on the east coast it shouldn’t be too wet.
  18. Didn’t have time to check indoor temp as I am on holiday to Scarborough but it must’ve been a warm night as I woke up feeling very warm and sweaty this morning!
  19. I woke up feeling very warm and sweaty today. According to my phone it’s 17C with 87% humidity. Thanks. I’ll check out the watermark cafe. Thanks, I will.
  20. Not been on here for awhile, but I’d just like to say it’s been a decent summer here in NW England. Not as hot and dry as the south (thankfully), just pleasantly warm and dry generally, although there was two days of extreme heat in July and temps in the high 20’s for about a week in August. 21. Well someone’s got money... You’re very lucky to be able to afford that these days, given the current cost of living crisis! Anyway, guess who’s going off on holiday to Scarborough tomorrow, the same day the weather turns unsettled... Oh well, at least it’s going to be quite warm. Warm rain is better than cold rain.. Unlucky given the very dry summer. Usually August is unsettled and it dries up as soon as the schools go back, looks like it’s the opposite way round this year.
  22. Still too hot for me, prefer low 20’s warmth. Even 25C still feels very hot in the sun. Doubt it, Despite the heat being more prolonged it won’t be as extreme. Probably an amber warning at most. I’d rather not as that’s when I go away on holiday to Scarborough! It can start on the 7th of September when I get back. I’d rather not as that’s when I go away on holiday to Scarborough! Autumn is welcome to start on the 7th of September when I get back. Currently a nice cool 17°C here. Making the most of it before the heat strikes again.
  23. 19.5°C in mine, and in the bedroom just 19.3°C with 60% humidity. Enjoying the cool weather while it lasts.
  24. High 20’s too hot for me, much prefer low 20’s or hi teens. Fridays forecast looks nice though. God I hate spiders! They freak me out. Even have nightmares about them sometimes! A nice cool night here, currently 12°C at midnight.
  25. Surprised It was warmer in Buxton than it was here. High of 18° here and humidity got down as low as 50% and it was quite breezy too so definitely a much fresher feel compared to recent days. Mostly sunny too, had a couple of showers in the morning but dry after that. Quite a nice day, really. We’re in for a cooler night too, it’s 12.0°C at exactly 00:00 midnight. Nice to see the moon this evening. The week ahead looks pleasant with partly cloudy conditions and highs of 22-24C.
