  1. I don't think the Faversham station's 34 is accurate. Be cautious of such anomalies.
  2. Facepalm.... Please do some research! Anyway, Heathrow update at 1:50 is showing 31 degrees.
  3. "Ancient Egyptians kept cool by using, among other things, Mud brick walls to keep houses cool Windows for cross draft Vents in the roof to help air circulate Matting for window shades Damp reeds and water pots for evaporated water to cool the air Roofs to sleep on at night Simple, light clothing, but clothing was also dictated by fashion and status A headrest at night to improve air-circulation round the head A wet blanket to sleep in Tree-lined paths"
  4. I think we will agree to disagree Temps into the 30s at midday in London.
  5. This is actually a misconception, a dry heat can be just as damaging to health as a humid heat because the lack of sweat in a dry climate can lead you into a false sense of security. You can succumb to heat stroke v. quickly. But of course humid heat leads to more rapid heat stroke. The main point though, that a human body can survive 40 degrees is false. The body temp is 37.5 and therefore prolonged periods in 40 degrees will lead to hyperthermia. Heat energy transfers from the hot air to the cooler body until there is an equilibrium - it's just the laws of physics!
  6. There are widespread 40s forecast across the channel tomorrow, so since its not even showing that then I would disregard it (unless other models are in agreement!)
  7. Nomadic people didn't have concrete buildings, you simply cannot acclimatise to 40 degree temps in a concrete jungle without air con.
  8. Desert regions get remarkably cool at night, even in the summer. Huge sprawling concrete cities do not. That's the difference between 2019 and 10,000 BC.
  9. The human body will overheat in 40 degree temps, it's just that some will overheat faster than others. Extensive air con makes living in dessert regions possible, so nobody really acclimatises to these temps, its just that you're able to cool down as and when you please - and this is not possible in most UK homes.
  10. So now both MO and BBC predicting 39 tomorrow. We need to be seeing 30 at 9am and 36 at midday for it to come off. theres still however a chance that we’ll have egg on our faces. Hope not!
  11. The SE tip is battered by thunderstorms during most events. Let us have our rare moment of fun.
  12. Temps at 24-26 at 9am. London MO forecast for 34, BBC just 31.. Some areas may see sunny spells this afternoon but mid 30s seems likely for London. Cloud in the west is melting away.
  13. Nothing forecast for the SE and yet it was quite an insane night for most! Just goes to show that you shouldn’t take a thunderstorm forecast as 100% accurate. Things can change and often do. So who’s ready for round 2 on Thursday night?!
  14. Temps just about held up in the 20s across many areas so another hot day coming up for the SE, and notably the dew points are higher - upper teens/20 C - so it will feel worse than yesterday. Cant quite believe we could reach 40 degrees tomorrow. It sounds insane! I just hope cloud doesn’t ruin the fun.
  15. Almost 1am and still mid 20s across many parts of central southern England. Steamy.
  16. Storm moved through very fast in Guildford. Heavy rain and insane lightning for the UK. It would be interesting to hear about hail/tornado reports
  17. Intense thunderstorm over Guildford at the moment no hail though
  18. Frequent cloud to ground lightning approaching from south of Guildford.
  19. Hope so! But looks like west London at best to me. Basingstoke/Reading is the place to be in the next hour or two
  20. Looks like we may get some scraps but the main stuff is heading into the midlands.
  21. Rainfall rates look like they’re approaching 200mm/hr in South Wales? Intense lightning all over the south now. The atmosphere is exploding!
  22. What a great start to the event! Can’t ask for much more than this in the UK.
  23. Energy seems to be heading NW. Perhaps the MO jumped the gun a bit including the SE in the warning..
