  1. There are some who love to blame everything that happing on Global warming and it getting vert tirring . It high time that common sense was restored. these clouds could have happened before.

As usual you have missed the point and probably didn't even bother reading what was written in the article:

"The clouds may also be an indicator of global warming. The build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that traps heat on Earth, causing it to heat up, also stops heat from reaching the stratosphere and causes it to become cooler.

If global warming gets worse, these clouds could be a regular sight. "

notice the word could and may?

As it was stated in the article these clouds have been seen before and it takes very rare circumstances for them to form.

  2. Hi Paul,

any chance of having a surf forecast section on here to cater for our surfing friends? I always plug your site to my friends, family and work colleagues as the best place to get an accurate forecast. I was doing this to a new acquaintance (surfer) last week and it suddenly dawned on me that this may be a useful addition to this site.

I wouldn't see this as too much additional work as the 7/16 forecast is perfect and I would envisage there being a few extra columns.

Let me know what you think? PM if you would like me to go into more detail

    regards

    Ian

  3. Although I'm certainly expecting August to another warm month I think perhaps my 18.7C is going to be too high - but hey, a punt is a punt and just for fun - so I'm not going to change it now anyway. It will probably be nearer 17.5C for those who have pitched around there.

    Tamara

I am with you on this one Princess. Seen as I was almost spot on with July  I will go for 17.6C and will no doubt be way off the mark...

    QUOTE(Matt B @ 26 Jul 2006, 09:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Half hearted storm this morning at about 1.45am. Reasonable lightning but at long intervals and long deep thunder but on the quite side !

I caught the same storm (if you can call it that!) and I can only recall one lightning strike, but that was very close judging by the 2 second delay before hearing the thunder.

  5. OK Joneseye. 80/1 You are on.....difficult paying up if you lose though! Maybe you could pay me in spirits. :D

BTW No bets on tomorrow/Thursday's max temp?? I hope your winning spree hasn't come to an end! :D

    Paul

I am still smarting from the previous loss, which I believe makes us even stevens :(

Whilst we are on this topic I wonder if my original blaze (sp) prediction of bang on 20C comes to fruition? If so I think I deserve one of those blow your own trumpet smilies...

  6. Just as an addendum to my last post - this July, if it had a cold equivalent, would be the same as a January being of a similar temperature to January 1963. I don't think that will happen in any of our lifetimes. I'd put the odds against it at 80/1, at least, on that happening in any one year, eg next year, but the odds on 19.9C, or whatever this month ends up at, being broken again, next year, I'd put at only 8/1.

It just shows how much our climate has changed in the last 25 years - and it shows no signs, whatsoever, of changing back.

    Paul

Go on then stick me down for 1 virtual pint on it happening in my lifetime :D I am aware that I am into negative values already. Obviously if it does happen I will swap pints for mulled wine...

  7. Temperature peaked at 28.5 in my garden this morning before the storms moved in from the south. It felt more like the Mediterranean yesterday evening and overnight and it isn’t going to be much better tonight. Currently 22C outside with humidity in the region of 80% - very uncomfortable as I type..

  9. Today even a few inches is enough to close roads schools Ext. just think of what would happen if we have a massive blizzard or snow storm over all of England that left well over a foot of snow for weeks and day time temps remained at or below freezing. such events will happen again and we would be brought to our knees.

Oh dear Daniel. Large areas of North America experience these very conditions every winter and cope admirably with them. Likewise much of Northern Europe does as well and they also cope with such conditions.

The fact is that us humans are quite an adaptable bunch, believe it or not even us poor people living on Blighty are too. The fact is that if you get used to something then you cope with it. If we did start to experience such conditions I am sure that someone would make a fortune selling various cold weather paraphernalia on EBay...

  10. Thanks Bottesford. To get a 20C would be ridiculous really, and I can't see it happening for some years even with AGW.

Having said that, and just for fun, it's currently 21.6C on Manley CET which is a whopping 5.8C above average http://www.climate-uk.com/

It won't last though! Things are about to turn fresher, and although high pressure will rebuild next week we would need a substantial heatwave to kick in fast again for anything near 20C to be maintained this month. We should see some fresher nights whilst the high takes time to establish too.

To be honest I went for 20C as a bit of a laugh. I knew the first week was going to be fairly hot...

I notice the CET tracker on Net-Weather is still 19.85C. I wonder how close we will come to a 20C month as from the end of the week onwards the current trend in the models looks quite favourable for a sustained period of warm/hot summer weather.

  11. up to 25C by Sunday (officially very hot)

I don't mean to be picky Richard, but I think to call 25C very hot is a bit misleading. Would have been better to say well above average for the time of the year... I did have a little search to find the exact definitions for warm, very warm, hot, very hot etc. but failed miserably.

However, I did find an interesting piece on the heat index:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature-Humidity_Index

EDIT: Just read the post from Chris and I take back the bit about very hot

  12. Or are you suggesting one can guess the May CET on May 30th ... ?

    OK thanks!

I just thought it was a bit of fun and it's not like there are prizes on offer for the winner other than possibly a bit of kudos and an opportunity to gloat?

And no I am not suggesting that guessing on the 30th May for the May CET is ok

  13. I've got a feeling you're maybe supposed to decide before or at the beginning of the month?!

I must have missed where the rules are written for having a punt? Can you point me in that direction....

  14. Quite possibly looking at the latest radar loop!

Had a heavy shower at 14:30 this afternoon. The rainfall was intense and made a lot of noise as it hit the roof of our building.. strange thing is the latest Met O radar hasn't picked it up. I was expecting to see a red blob on there in the central southern England area, but there isn't anything on there... perhaps the Net Weather Extra has picked it up? Or perhaps I ought to subscribe!! :(
