She's still not following the track is she?
We should surely be seeing quite a pronounced turn to the NNW for her to follow the track recently amended (I still think they haven't got a 'bead' on her) and with the models now becoming divergent it's all down to best guess tracks.
I don't think there is enough influence (steering) to sway her from her current track (just think of her mass and couple that with her forward motion and a bit of Newton's 2nd law?) She is a very heavy blob of cloud with all the rain on board and she has got a mighty 'spin' to her keeping it all held together.
I think she will smash into Yukatan, full on, and stagger away from the meeting to reform over the next two days (by that time Alpha may be forming in Wilmas Nursery south of Cuba) but her track/intensity will be different.

I sincerely hope she does change track as I am due to go to Cancun on the 31st and I can't imagine that there will be much left if she hits it head on

Thing is, Yucatan Peninsula and W.Cuba are gonna get a pounding soon with those wind speeds..whose to say she won't make landfall twice??
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I hope not (for selfish reasons) as I am due to fly out to Cancun on the 31st October. I may have to have a chat to the travel agent as well...

It is interesting that the BBC haven't really picked up this yet.
Reuters have an interesting article:

What a truly awesome beast she has become in such a short space of time....

Thanks everyone, I'll be tuning in here regularly.
My name is mud in our household at the moment OH and teen are blaming me because for months I've been saying it would be some experience to go through a hurricane and now we're due to go there is the possiblity!!!!

Mondy that looks very interesting thanks, it's the waiting that's killing me I've got to say.

Hi Sunshine Gal!
I am off to Cancun on the 31st October as earlier on in the season I booked it and told the other half that the season would be pretty much over by then. She was not impressed when I was talking to my mates about the amount of activity still going on!
I hope things work out for you and boro dave - stay safe!

From a relatively novice point of view the rate of intensification over the last 36 hours is phenomenal. Are there any of the tell-tale signs of weakening or slowing in it's growth?
Will the time of day have any major impact? It must be about 1400 in the afternoon at the moment. When it reaches the evening local time does anyone expect the rate of strengthening to slow down or will this not really impact it?

it may hit cooler water before it land it may go back down to cat 3
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am not so sure. Yesterday I was looking at a link on here to the sea temps in the Gulf of Mexico (can anyone add this?) and as PersianPaladin said the uniform temps are 29-30C.

Blimey!
What a truly awesome sight this storm is turning out to be. The speed at which this one has intensified is unbelievable - if it continues at this rate and with the convective activity of the day to come we are surely looking at another cat 5!
I hope it does change to a more westerly track and hit a less populated area.

Teeming it down in Newbury. Looking at the radar it has been raining here all night along with a small area to the west of London. Felt very autumnal on my way to work.
-
Very pleasant in Newbury.
Temperature 23c with high clouds and a light breeze making it feel much less oppressive than the weekend.

Anybody know what hill this is???
I took it myself about 2 months ago
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Is it the hill at Birdlip near the Air Balloon pub?
