  1. Every other day. There were still a number of thunder-free days.
  2. I also used to be scared of storms when I was young. Went on holiday to Switzerland in August when I was 13 - not a good choice of destination from that point of view. There was thunder almost every other day.
  3. I will very soon be living near you, Eagle Eye, to Hamstreet to be close to my wife's, Heather's family. After retiring, we moved from Bulford to Pagham to be near to my old dad but he has since died. Before we married, Heather lived for a long time in Great Chart and Ashford. We married in Great Chart Church. I know little of Woodchurch as I have driven through it as opposed to stopping there. We know Hamstreet much better as Heather's oldest brother lived there for many years before dying of covid 2 1/2 years ago, but his widow still lives there.
  4. Very true. I have read other people's comments about certain seasons being good/indifferent/poor and have disagreed with them.
  5. In 2015, 8 years ago, I was living in Bulford near Amesbury. I moved to Pagham in August of that year. For me, the most notable aspect of 2015 regarding thundery activity was that the large majority of it was so concentrated in that one night 3/4 July. Discharges were very frequent with continuously flashing lightning for a time and some very close discharges. Away from that night, there was very little other thunder and if it was not for that night, 2015 would have been one of the quietest years in my life.
  6. Just as I have got back into bed to go to sleep, another flash and rumble. Rain has started.
  7. Recently heard rumbles of thunder. Did not notice it raining but the ground is damp outside.

  9. Occasional flashes of IC lightning in distant cb to N'ly
  10. I can see distant anvils and cu con in NW quadrant. I see that there is still lightning on maps in the distance.
  11. C-G strike followed by a loud crack of thunder at 5.34 BST, less than a mile away, then torrential rain for a few minutes.
  12. C-G strike followed by a loud crack of thunder at 5.34 BST, less than a mile away, then torrential rain for a few minutes.
  13. Thunderstorm rumbling mainly to SW'ly. Frequent thunder, rain not too heavy yet.
  14. Quite a storm last night from a little after 1am to 2.20am BST, rain torrential for a short period. Now cloudy and feeling much less humid than recently.

  16. Good anvil in direction of latest London storm. As for here, no storm has got even near here in this spell. Just a little rain yesterday and sunny and fresher today.
  17. I was working at Herstmonceux and living in nearby Hailsham and the 5th June 1983 may be the most thundery day of my life. It started during the late afternoon/early evening of 4th with a strike close to Beachy Head and started thundering in earnest later that evening and during most of 5th. There was no hail locally as far as I know but a colleague told me that his car was dented by hailstones at Ryde when he was on holiday on the Isle of Wight.
  18. August 1978 springs to my mind. It was unsettled during the first half as a continuation of the poor summer weather of that year, but had a dry settled second half which was the start of the dry autumn weather of that year.
  19. I was on duty at Herstmonceux in East Sussex that night - one of the most thundery night shifts in my career in the Met Office.
  20. My memories of thunder on 31st May. 1969 - I was staying with my Granny at Hastings when there were a number of thundery showers during the evening to round off the thundery May of that year. 1983 - It was one of the most thundery night shifts of my whole career in the Met Office. I was working at Herstmonceux at the time. There were two bouts of thundery activity that night, the first was a pretty good storm occurring during the late evening and around Midnight BST. The second one was after 1am BST on 1st June and was, if anything, more severe at its peak than the first. 2022 - Last year at Pagham, I heard a rumble of thunder shortly before 1am BST then a slight thunderstorm with rain from about 0340am BST for about 10 minutes.
  21. I was living in Essex in the sixties. Another similarity between 1967 and 1969 was that they both had wet and thundery Mays. I remember the summers as reasonable but not great.
  22. Proper rain at last from about 6pm. Avoided thunder altogether, and apart from two very light brief showers yesterday completely dry since Tuesday morning. Reminds me of summer 2020 when there were storms inland but fine here. However, it has meant that I could do jobs in the garden in the dry.
