  1. Certainly missed out here. Heard just one clap of thunder in September and missed out again yesterday, but had quite a lot of Ac cas though.
  2. Mid-April 1966 was exceptionally dull in the south. I was 12 years old living in Essex and I remember a period of snow for a time which lay during one afternoon (I should think 14th or 15th) because there was no April sun to thaw it. At Cardington sunshine was recorded on only one day during the period 11th to 20th April and it including a long period of snow on 14th and 15th - a thoroughly miserable spell of weather being cold and wet as well. Early August 1968 was exceptionally dull in the South East at least because of low pressure over the near continent. I was working at Dunkeswell for a few years during the 1990's. I remember November 1994 was persistently dull with 26.8 hours of sunshine, but as already mentioned, January 1996 was also exceptionally dull with 19.8 hours, though not nearly as other places in the country.
  3. When going running by the canal just outside Hamstreet this morning, the wind was rather a hindrance.
  4. I would like to travel back to 6th August 1981 and experience the day darkness which I have heard quite a bit about. I was in West Sussex at the time and although it was quite dramatic, I don't remember it getting particularly dark. Also, I would like to experience the 24th June 1994 storm. I was abroad on holiday at the time and I only learnt of it a few days later after I got home. It sounds something really dramatic.
  5. Heard only one clap of thunder all last night, at 1123 pm to SE'ly. Reasonable amount of lightning before midnight. Had a short period of heavy rain some time after midnight.

  7. I remember the disastrous weather then being in the main news. I was living in NW Essex then so I was to the north of the most dramatic action. I do remember that during the afternoon of Saturday 14th it got progressively darker, and then when I was walking in Hatfield Forest I heard a rumble of thunder but not seeing lightning. There was probably alot of low cloud as well as the trees in the forest obscuring it. It was certainly a wet weekend even where I was.
  8. Very warm and humid. Much Ac Cas with precipitation evaporating well before reaching the ground.
  9. Quite an oppressive humid heat when in my garden this afternoon. Thick cirrus and altocumulus.
  10. It was 16th October 2017. It became really gloomy with Saharan dust and smoke from Iberian wildfires, and appeared threatening for a storm, but as I recall there was only a little light rain, at least at Pagham around that time.
  11. I ran the Exmouth half marathon on 27th of that month. It was a relief to run in cooler fresher conditions, but the strong wind blowing down the River Exe from a NW'ly direction was a definite hindrance to the running.
  12. Living in Pagham till 2 weeks into July then in Hamstreet, we often avoided the worst of any bad weather that was going in July and August.
  13. Only had a shower with large raindrops this afternoon, otherwise it was dry with plenty of sunshine today.
  14. This shower was the highlight of the day here. It was otherwise dry with plenty of sunshine, but with Cb's on the distance.
  15. Reasonable storm clearing, one C-G pretty close and some heavy rain.
  16. There are other parallels between the Augusts of 1912 and 1986. Apart from both being so poor, the Norfolk floods giving up to 8 inches rainfall in part of Norfolk occurred at the same time in August 1912 as did ex-tropical storm 'Charlie' giving its trouble in August 1986. The Septembers of both years produced welcome droughts but they were both still very cool.
  17. At Egerton, I would have thought that the bulk of the thundery activity if not its entirety occurred between midnight and 1am BST though other observers nearby may know better.
