  1. Hmm just looked out the window and we have a shallow layer of freezing fog here. A thin layer of rime too. Perhaps it is keeping the temperature up a bit? Or maybe it's just Cheltenham's urban heat island.
  2. Wow. -3 last night. Coldest this year so far. What a cold spell.
  3. It's -1.4C here, which is low considering the lowest temp this winter so far has been -3.4C. Hopefully we will beat that tonight.
  4. Yes it's looking good for us in Gloucestershire - showers penetrating well inland :-)
  5. Still NO snow apart from a dusting that barely covered the ground in December. If we don't get any snow here during this spell, I will be gutted.
  6. Yes dogs32 - we'd better get something from Tuesday/Weds! All we seem to get here is rain...
  7. Thanks for the update Iceberg! Sod's law it all misses Gloucestershire though.
  8. Hmm.. I hope it's snow here - but perhaps unlikely seeing as it's rain where you are, about 5 miles away!
  9. This is shaping up to be an epic Dogs32 - keep watching outside, I think a shower should be here pretty soon, I wonder what it will be? It's intensifying as it heads in our direction! I reckon it'll be here in 10 mins, whatever it is!
  10. I think we are due to get hit by the next shower in 30 mins or so's time - will be interesting to see whether it's sleet or snow...
  11. I'd have thought it would be snow, with a temp of 2.5 and d.p. of -1...
  12. Thanks Ian, I'll make the most of the bright weather today then and save the radar watching for another time
  13. Hi Ian, Are we expected to have any luck today from that Cheshire Gap streamer, in Gloucestershire? It's a shame it's not better aligned - those showers are getting far inland! I'm hoping for a couple of centimetres at some point this week - Tues/Weds perhaps?
  14. Hi Ian, thanks for your updates and Happy New Year! Just looked back over the last few pages. I noticed that earlier you mentioned a dusting or a cm or two of snow was possible overnight tonight in Gloucestershire - is this still plausible?
  15. Got down to -1.9C last night and it's now -0.5C. Could be an ice day here too but I reckon it'll go just over. Very small diurnal variation we're getting at the moment! Happy New Year All
  16. WOW! http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Recm1201.gif Much better northerly flow, and cold uppers! <-8s over parts of the UK in 120 becoming widespread by +144
  17. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm961.gif +120 could be a cracking chart, the northerly looks better-aligned and stronger...
  18. Hopefully something last-minute will pop up and bring us some snow cover. Like this for Sunday http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20091231/12/63/ukprec.png
  19. Regarding the NMM, do you actually run the model on the NetWeather servers, or is it retrieved from a central location? If you run it on your servers, does this mean that the Meteociel version of NMM could in fact yield different results to the NetWeather version? Also, I've noticed there has been some discussion in the short term on TWO and uk.sci.weather about a feature off the coast of Norway which could bring heavier ppt towards the UK. The 0Z NAE showed it moving quite far south, reaching the SW http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2009/12/31/basis00/ukuk/prty/10010200_3100.gif , but the 06Z seems to have backed away from keeping its intensity as it moves southwards http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2009/12/31/basis06/ukuk/prty/10010200_3106.gif . Does anyone know what is likely to happen with this feature?
  20. It's gone on the 6Z! Well... looks like some cold, dry weather coming up. Hopefully upgrades for snow potential over the upcoming days. I think I might take a break from this weather watching though because the snow potential always seems to be like a carrot on a stick, just out of reach. Perhaps when I come back there will be some snow on the cards for us?! EDIT: At 48 some very light snow showing up but I'm doubtful.
  21. What's this I see from the NAE? Light snow moving down on Friday, reaching us on Friday night? I would love just a couple of centimetres of snow, so that when this cold sets in, we can reach the full potential of the cold temperatures!
  22. It definitely looks like getting cold or very cold now, and staying for a week or so at least. The only trouble here is that it looks very dry. So we could just be heading for another cold, dry spell of weather. I agree with you that the SE regional bias is very frustrating on the model output discussion sometimes!
  23. Here is a video of the heavy blowing snow earlier, on Cleeve Hill:
