  1. Thanks Dartmoor_Matt and Dogs Yeah I didn't see any skiiers but there were quite a few snowboarders up there! I went sledging with a friend, we found quite a good run about 300m long. Brought back memories from years ago, good fun! Then we went to explore and I took these pics. Thanks Tribe - Panasonic DMC-LX3 PS I think the first picture tells the story, snow as far as I could see, well into Shropshire, Wales, towards Bristol... and a deep covering too.
  2. Here are some pictures from earlier today :-D Snow looking splendid in the sunshine.
  3. The meteociel site is showing 850s of between 0 and -4 for most of England on that chart. Ireland and Scotland are still in <-4 air. Would that plausibly produce snow, or would we be looking at areas of freezing rain/sleet?
  4. I too am itching for an update from Ian! -3.9C here. Had a good afternoon sledging on Cleeve Hill with a friend. Beautiful up there, white as far as the eye can see.
  5. Not sure I trust my thermometer! Probably something to do with the location, because it says -5.1 here at the moment with a min of -5.8 which seems balmy compared to -11 at Staverton. I can compare my minima night by night, but may refer to the official stations for proper readings. A couple more pictures for you before I retire to my Maths books:
  6. Morning all! Minimum temperature -5.8C, currently -5.3C. What did other people record in Cheltenham? Staverton shivering at -11C last night.
  7. Thanks Dogs  I didn't feel like going to Cleeve, because it's a bit of a trek to get up onto the high ground. Also as you say it's where I normally go, so I wanted a change. I thought the snow depths would be pretty uniform in any case. A few more: Wish I'd smiled in this one! It was cold though..... Coberley: Countryside near Coberley:
  8. -3.2C here. EDIT now -3.3 Pics slowly uploading to Flickr. Garden Chairs: Sledging on Lecky Hill: Thick snow on Leckhampton Hill: Devil's Chimney, Leckhampton Hill Wintry woodland:
  9. OK just about to start the great picture upload but first of all here's another video to keep you going. It shows me walking through knee deep snow near Coberley (yes I know I look a bit of a spastic, I was holding my camera case in one hand!).
  10. I was too, but I think it should be working now. Perhaps took a few mins to process.
  11. First video from me. View from Barrow Wake Viewpoint, near Birdlip. Yes dogs - I am near the church, but I wasn't wearing a backpack. Shelburne road is pretty close to St Mark's Temp dropping like a stone, now -2.8C
  12. Thanks so much Ian! This snow watching is tiring me out (not least because I walked 15 miles today) though I can't imagine how you must feel with those early shifts! When you talk of out-of-window checks, are they in the hope that the event will come off as forecast? I think the forecasters handled it pretty well, after the ppt. materialised on the NAE a couple of days ago. PS yes I'm looking forward to tonight's low minima - I'm already recording -2.1C. Got some good karma earlier - helped to push a car out of a snow drift near Leckhampton Dogs32 - Shelburne Rd there!! So close to my house!
  13. Back now from my epic 15 miles trek up over the Cotswolds! Had a wonderful time - loads of pictures - will upload later + perhaps give a better account. Snow depths. Cheltenham town: 13cm Leckhampton Hill + generally over the hills: 18-20cm Highest parts of the Cotswolds: 40cm in places Combine that with strong winds and you get drifting; some drifts were waist deep. I have a video of me walking through a particularly deep area of snow - the deepest I came across - the road was covered with snow up to my knees for quite a long stretch so probably 40-50cm deep. Certainly made the walking difficult and it definitely took a lot longer to walk 15 miles in the snow than it would have done in other weather! Beautiful up there though - a really ethereal light when the cloud cleared away, especially after the sun when down and the ambient light was illuminating the hills.
  14. 16cm - crazy! Although it does look deeper out the other side of the house. I'm wondering whether there is less depth in the garden (10cm) because of being sheltered. Heading off soon to explore!
  15. Good on you! I went to bed at about 4am, and didn't wake up til about 930. I'm going to walk up into the Cotswolds later, and see what the depths are like + get some snowy pictures. I'm back at 6th form with an exam on 11th, so I feel like I'm going to have catching up to do later in terms of both revision and sleep! But I'll enjoy it while it lasts. We both know how rare snow is in Cheltenham. PS What a lovely feeling that the thaw will be minimal! Last year I remember by the evening it was all a slushy mess. But thick snow with no hint of that dreaded word marginality:
  16. OK just been out to measure it properly, it's 10cm on the level.
  17. Blimey Dogs I'm impressed! I'm about to do the same now. How far have you been? The things we do for weather We did better than I expected here in Cheltenham, I haven't measured properly yet but will now
  18. WOW! Just woken up and it's incredible here, we have a good 5 inches of snow which is the deepest I've seen it. I've always wanted snow so that you can't see the curb and it's finally arrived! Still snowing too...
  19. OK woken up to the alarm, probably back to bed in a bit. About 7-8cm here, too tired to find a ruler so just an estimate, looks about 3 inches. Not the astronomical depths - yet, but a good covering which is here to stay. Cheltenham is in a gap in the precip at the moment, annoyingly, just a tad to the north Tewkesbury is probably getting badly hit...
  20. Oh right locations not working now -- I'm in Cheltenham. Steady fine flakes falling.
  21. HAHAHA lol that is exactly what I was thinking... and commented above
  22. OK. It sounds like this snow is starting to get to you Dogs LOL Well it looks like the main snow is still an hour or two away. I'm contemplating going to bed and setting my alarm for 1am.
