  1. GME is also showing quite a potent easterly by +132 http://www.wzkarten3.de/pics/Rgme1322.gif
  2. Just got back from a cycle ride. I like this weather at the moment - life as normal at low levels, and snow-covered hills. An enjoyable transition from a green Cheltenham to a white Birdlip, where the snow is 1-2 inches deep. It was surprising just how much colder it felt up on the Cotswolds compared to in town. The snow must keep the temperatures down.
  3. Sounds exciting, I'll look forward to it! I think the best thing will be the ability to zoom in on Google Maps...
  4. Have we got a date yet? I'm looking forward to this In fact I just bought a year's radar subscription this morning...
  5. Heavy sleet here, will probably turn to snow properly soon, it's becoming increasingly snowy as time goes on. Very good call by the Met Office.
  6. If this comes off, it will be an extremely impressive call by the Met Office - it was five days out when they issued the advisory! My personal opinion is that we will see some sleet and transient wet snow at low levels (in Cheltenham), with accumulations on the hills, from around 150m. However as TC's post illustrated it's such a complex situation (thanks for the post btw), and I think forecasters are right to be warning of snow because the potential is there!
  7. On the other hand, the GFS has the ppt. stalling further SW, making it a Devon and Pembrokeshire event Hi Western Snows Bit lonely in here this evening.. I'm not yet convinced we will see snow either but I'll be keeping an eye on it tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if we have rain on low ground and wet snow about about 150m.
  8. Well the latest NAE plonks a 14 over Cheltenham, by 6pm on Wednesday. But 14mm of what? I'm yet to be convinced we will see much snow in Cheltenham, but I won't be surprised if there's snow on the hills. Nevertheless, Ian's latest update looks interesting: OK as it comes out - T+36 on the NAE shows rain turning to snow by 6am on Weds Some snowfall accumulating chiefly in Gloucestershire by 9am: Looks heavy, whatever it turns out as. The Midlanders will be pleased with this one.
  9. Wow that is a big difference. Must be your altitude. Still 10.6 here.
  10. Wow, looks good. Of course, my radar subscription expired today! Can I just ask - with the precipitation discrimination feature, is this information based on the GFS? Or is precip type actually detected live?
  11. Wonderful pics, thanks for sharing. Those seem impressively low temperatures, colder that we've recorded in the UK this winter! -22.3 I think was the minimum in Altnaharra, Scotland.
  12. 9.7C here. Feeling very mild compared to the past few weeks. Almost all the snow has melted, apart from in places where the snow was piled up. I'm actually looking forward to some slightly milder weather now (preferably sunny). I'll be glad not to have to worry too much about ice and grit on the roads whilst cycling! Another cold snap/spell would be good later in the season.
  13. Wow - 15cm is a massive fall my my standards! What is the total depth now? Which part of the North Cotswolds are you in? Anywhere near Snowshill? We had about 3cm more snow in Cheltenham overnight and through the day. It's not a nice type of snow. Very icy, and made up of very small flakes.
  14. How deep is it where you are now, Tom? About 2cm here, estimating from my casual glance out the window just now. Still fine, light snow here.
  15. Dogs, at least we're getting something though! Having said that, it's not much. It's a very fine, blowy sort of snow. I wouldn't classify it as being wet or dry snow, because I can't tell - the flakes are too small. It has given a covering over the cars and areas which already have snowcover.
  16. OK at the other extreme - just read on the BBC In Melbourne, Australia, 37C at MIDNIGHT! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8453500.stm
  17. Snow had fallen, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago since last Tuesday Heavy snizzle here in Cheltenham  Hopefully it might intensify later. If the flakes were bigger it would be quite dramatic, especially with the wind!
  18. Take a look here anyone interested, http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=ukuk&MODELL=nae&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=rsum&HH=0&ARCHIV=0&ZOOM=0&PANEL=0&WMO= NAE model data, comes straight from the MetOffice. On those charts very roughly 1mm rain = 1cm snow.
  19. Latest NAE has a 10 over Bristol (a 0 over Yatton though, of course) and a 4 over Cheltenham.
  20. Sounds good Tom. Got to reach here first though before it stalls! PS The temperature has been stuck on 0.4C for about 2 days now...
  21. Still seems to be moving slowly northeast to me. The Cotswolds are going to be picturesque tomorrow, if we get this snow. Earlier the snow looked barely melted - like it was in Cheltenham on Tuesday. Tom what's it like in Bristol now? Certainly looks snowy at that match someone posted a link to.
  22. I'm about 4cm NE of the ppt band now, on the NetWeather radar :-) Come on Atlantic, you know you can do it!
