  1. Goodness. If only it wasn’t FI. That would be a mega blizzard and freeze after. Not sure this country would cope
  2. Yes - 6 days out EC says cold and snowy , GFS wet and mild. Interesting looking forward to the ensembles
  3. It doesn’t get any better so enjoy what you have now Merry Christmas All
  4. Especially if it moves further South than modelled as they do appear to.
  5. I really don’t know why we bother looking later than 4 days really. We should manage our own expectations. Speaking for myself of course
  6. The models are so bipolar at the minute all is still to play for. I’d love to leave it for a week but I can’t
  7. What are the anomalies comparing to? Some weird stuff going on in the Atlantic between the UK and Canada
  8. I saw it once in the early 80’s in South Wales. Probably Jan 83. Ice crystals falling out of freezing fog with the sun shining above the fog.
  9. You lot are nuts I was born in Oct 1962 and my mother couldn’t take me out for months. Anyway, back to the model discussion Something is afoot. GFS doing the early ‘sniff out’. You could almost guarantee a backtrack this/next week before it picks up the scent again. I think some of the models/experts/teleconnections are picking something up too. I’m hopecasting I know but it is the lead up to . Tally ho
  10. 6z OP in the FAR REACHES OF FI (not reality) is moving towards a Genoa LP and a slider into cold air. Pleeeeaaaase
  11. and the second bit … Friday 22 Dec - Friday 5 Jan Most likely to be unsettled with further bands of rain crossing the UK with brighter conditions and showers in between. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely in the west and northwest. The chance of a colder spell of weather, with hazards such as snow and ice, does increase later in December and into the New Year period. However, conditions are more likely to remain generally mild and wet.
  12. To my untrained eye the I think the AI model is on board ECMWF | Charts CHARTS.ECMWF.INT
  13. I made a point about deep cold dense air, over Europe, being difficult to shift if it is over snow cover. We don’t get that in our small island group. As someone posted earlier, we are a small group of nations in a warm sea. The NWP models are looking at the big picture. It’s amazing that we get any sensible forecasts at all considering the size of our land mass and where we are situated between the Atlantic ocean and a huge landmass. Hoping for my first White Christmas
  14. Looking at some of these posts not only is this year the warmest on record but many new extremes have been recorded.
