reef Same here. Yesterday had a blue sky all day but today is whiter.
Been a decent first third of May here, plenty of warm sunshine, can’t complain. However if the dross returning next week isn’t brief, this’ll go down as one of the worst springs.

SunSean Bizarre! It’s been going on since 2021 really when you guys had a terrible “summer”, the north had a great one and we had a benign one. It broke in 2022 and then last spring the south and east were cold and grey and now again this year.

Been a beautiful day here. I think it was 19C with sunny skies with some haze at times. Tuesday was similar and yesterday was decent until the afternoon rain so the best three days in a row of the spring here.
Initially surprised to see the complaining about today on here but then I looked and there’s been a real shocking north/south divide with the midlands being on the better side.

This lopsided April temperature wise has had the blessing amongst the gloom of having a longer blossom season than normal round here. The very mild nights in March and early April made blossom arrive early this year and the cold of late has preserved them through the whole of April.

I think I’ve happened to avoid the absolute worst of the weather being in Somerset instead of Derbyshire this week. Tuesday and Wednesday had sunny starts, cloudy noons/early afternoons and sunny late afternoons and around 13C. Today has been cloudier all day and windy but where I live it has been just 8C today !!

I want May to be the hottest, driest and sunniest on record after this crap. Give us a break.

Cold, dull and bleak it’ll be next week I reckon. Hopefully it’ll be a bit sunnier in the southwest under that northeasterly flow, where I’m going next week.
Cold weather in spring isn’t unusual and is to be expected at times and I wouldn’t mind it if it came in between warm sunny spells. However it’s NEVER ENDING dross, be it mild wet and dull or cold dry and dull, that’s doing my head in!

I feel like Spring 2024 (and February) is a duller version of 2014, especially this April being dull, very mild and fairly wet.
-
Mostly dull but pleasant and calm today so far. Hoping for some sun later but this is the best we can get for now.

Thursday and Saturday have downgraded so now we only have Friday to look forward to. Also the GFS has flipped back to low pressure near us into FI so maybe time to write off April. Another month bites the dust.

baddie That would be frustrating for us in the East Midlands. May 2023 had a lot of cold and foggy North Sea days with areas like Devon getting wall to wall sun. Even on the days when it was sunny here it wasn’t that warm as the breeze was suppressing the temperatures.

It’s not just the rain that’s grim, it’s more just the grey skies day in day out. If it were very wet but came in thundery showers with intermittent sunshine and blue skies it wouldn’t be that bad. Even if it’s dry, it’s looking up at the endless sheet of slate that depresses me; August 2021 is an example of this.

It’s really annoying how much better weather the rest of Europe (aside from most of Scandinavia) gets. The *climate* may be similar in most of north and west of Europe but the *weather* is so much better!

SunSean Same here it’s completely overcast which completely overshadows the warmth. Was expecting sun today as well. What a bust.

Quite a nice day here once the cloud broke at lunchtime. Not perfect but decent even with the wind. Tomorrow could be a great day if the low to west stalls a bit.
-
In Absence of True Seasons Can’t say the same here. This is one of the earliest blooms/leaf outs I’ve ever seen. I’ve even seen ashes and oaks starting to leaf out.
-
It’s been a lot nicer start to April than expected. Yesterday afternoon was nice and today has been too. The forecast looks milder as well.

Catherine91 Yes it was much better last night and felt noticeably spring like

The lighter hour didn’t feel that good today unfortunately being so dark and bleak out. Feels like midwinter.
-
baddie There was some snow showers yesterday and Wednesday in the southwest though so I’m taking it as a win

Sunday was the warmest here at 25C. Mostly sunny throughout the week and ended with a thunderstorm Sunday evening.
