FWIW local temps here are widely lower than forecast... looking on wunderground everywhere is locally 1 or 2*c having been forecasted to be around 4 or 5, with the lowet temps not expected til after 6am. One of the major issues weve had is that surfaced would be too warm. I doubt that will be the case, we may see some upgrades.

I wouldnt be too upset. For 2 reasons 1. Ive seen time and time again forecasts from day 3 be more accurate than the forecast the day before. Theres still plenty of time for surprises and upgrades. Automated and hi res forecasts are our worst enemy , i cant remember the last time they were accurate for or against snow. 2. Its expected to thaw the next day, although saying that, there is a small chance the snow may reactivate on the 2nd front moving through. Go with the flow and what will be will be. We dont allow surprises to have their moment...

Dark Horse I was living in Ashton around 2002-2004 and there were plenty of snow events around those parts. Christmas day and boxing day 2004 as an example. There were a handful of snow events in that time period that put down 3-4" easily. They werent bad years for snow. Infact the more i think about it, 2006 wasnt too bad, and neither was 2008, I remember making a few snowmen with my son around that time, he would have been about 4 or 5

So ive seen some pretty heavy snow this week in Iceland. It started off rainy and 4*c but quickly flipped over to sub zero and -20uppers straight off greenland. Did lots of stuff, but this was a fissure between the tectonic plates... we arrived and it just bucketed down. We had about 6inches over the day. Later that day we sat outside in a geothermal pool - the sky lagoon. It was about -4 or -5*c under a strong arctic wind and another snowshower blew in. We could barely keep our heads out of the water which was approx 40*c warmer. Was such an incredible experience

Just back from Reykjavik we had a very snowy spell which i hope im bringing back with me... we had a snow storm dumping about 6inches. Back to Thursday, Wirrals best snow events in my lifetime have come from this synoptic setup. Its high risk high reward. 2 orn3 times through my childhood did we get this... one i remember was feb 1996. Ive been waiting about 25 yrs for another one, such is the rarity. We might get more than 5cm snow.

aye forecast is here at the bottom of the page: BBC Weather - Home WWW.BBC.CO.UK Latest weather conditions and forecasts for the UK and the world. Includes up to 14-days of hourly forecast information, warnings, maps, and the latest editorial analysis and videos from the BBC Weather Centre. to be fair - we have done better than most, But the majority of the UK have seen naff all. This cold spell has been better than normal for my neck of the woods. Though we are still without a significant snowfall in over say 15-20 yrs?
