  1. Blizzard conditions here ST10 (Alton) heavy snow combined with strong winds. What had turned to rain early evening didnt affect the snow on the ground much and now the CMs are piling up again.

if this stalls and heads south overnight we are gonna see quite the snowfall total.

Hoping you all get some of the good stuff

Yep. No such problem up there. Areas as far north as me but further east should do very well. They don’t have the infuriating mild wedge to wreck it.

I am to the east of you out in Alton. Very different forecasts with the Met going for a non stop snow fest and the BBC going for sleet all day. Guessing its a look outside job.

  3. Consistent light snow for hours here as with most it began settling early evening and we currently have 3cm covering on grasses with around 1cm on roads. I am Alton, Staffordshire on the cusp of the peak district and the weaver hills.

All ready for spring but to me the cold heading further south seems to mean us in the north midlands are even more in the line if fire for a decent dumping of snow.

    Winters last hurrah.

  4. Just to note I wasnt being coy in regard to the weather today. In my particular area we are experiencing a lovely day weather wise as we sit in the calmer section of the pressure system.

so far a sunny day, couple of showers and little to mo breeze here. Dont expect it to change either. So off to enjoy the day.

True! At least using a camera is good evidence for the current situation,  then noone can argue otherwise. The higher parts of the black country do well in snowy setups.

That said, i know that reading the northwest thread and some local media, Ashbourne up to Buxton got a right old dumping today and google maps showed that the roads were a write off extensively, so its hard to compete with that on a midlands basis (for today at least). I'll shutup now and go back to my snowless cave

Ahhh our position on the edge of the churnet valley, weaver hills and the peak district means we too tend to be on par with the likes of Ashbourne, Buxton etc! Once the precip gets here it tends to stall!

  6. So after 1.5cm of snow it turned to sleet and began to thaw here in Alton ST10.

onwards to Tomorrow with the warning area staying firm in the north of our patch. Whats everyone thinking about tomorrow? Some surprises maybe? Or are models projecting precipitation where they werent previously?

On some other points its worth remembering that even in places like Stoke (Inner City) small pockets such as Meir Heath often see more snow by depth than some of the peak locations during any snow event. Variables will always be present and I dont think its wise to get into debate about what people are seeing with their own eyes. My best tip when it comes to snow depth… use a ruler and a camera

  7. So close to the warning area here in Alton, ST10.

We woke to a very light dusting of snow this morning leading to a very cold day out there.

Forecast is ever changing here from sleet, to snow to cold rain. I remain optimistic however as these smaller events tend to often throw up some surprises. Do we in the Midlands think that could be the case over the next few days?
