Blizzard conditions here ST10 (Alton) heavy snow combined with strong winds. What had turned to rain early evening didnt affect the snow on the ground much and now the CMs are piling up again.
if this stalls and heads south overnight we are gonna see quite the snowfall total.
Hoping you all get some of the good stuff

Snow here on the edge of the peak district and the weaver hills. We have 18cm!

Yep. No such problem up there. Areas as far north as me but further east should do very well. They don’t have the infuriating mild wedge to wreck it.
I am to the east of you out in Alton. Very different forecasts with the Met going for a non stop snow fest and the BBC going for sleet all day. Guessing its a look outside job.

Consistent light snow for hours here as with most it began settling early evening and we currently have 3cm covering on grasses with around 1cm on roads. I am Alton, Staffordshire on the cusp of the peak district and the weaver hills.
All ready for spring but to me the cold heading further south seems to mean us in the north midlands are even more in the line if fire for a decent dumping of snow.
Winters last hurrah.

I look at it like this, weve got the cold in place... Snow will come when it comes. I for one would just like the cold synopsis to continue to give us a more seasonal Christmas! If it snows great but cold and frosty this time of year is better than mild dross

Certainly feels even hotter to our earlier post here. Same problem with those in Stoke that our weather station is Leek and always a few degrees cooler!
We have definitely smashes a record today surely here and even more tomorrow maybe.

35degrees on our own weather thermometer in Alton Staffordshire ST10. Over 40 on the mercury thermometer. A few spots of rain at the minute mixed with beautiful sunshine.

Coming to Great Yarmouth from Saturday for 7 days. Any idea what weather to expect so far on the current runs?
-
Well of to Great Yarmouth for a week from Saturday. Any model posters who can advise what to expect for the 7 days beginning Saturday?

End of the world for some areas. Still a relatively unusual calm sometimes breezy day up here.

Definitely the north south divide in the reaction to this storm. Arwen was way worse for us here and we got on with it with no red warning and 2 days without power and water! Damaged fence down south and its the storm of the century.
still calm and bright here.
-
Calm day here in Alton Staffs moorlands, cant see us getting any effects of this storm based on our position lol a non starter here.
-
Just to note I wasnt being coy in regard to the weather today. In my particular area we are experiencing a lovely day weather wise as we sit in the calmer section of the pressure system.
so far a sunny day, couple of showers and little to mo breeze here. Dont expect it to change either. So off to enjoy the day.

Alton Staffordshire - A calm quiet morning so far. Not windy and sunny. What a load of hype as per here.

Just got back from ym driving lesson which saw us driving through the peaks to Buxton (Where my test is) Lots of snow showers that way, not too much in the way of lying snow but a lovely drive through the snow and the resulting scenery and landscape. God we live in such a beautiful part of the world here!.

True! At least using a camera is good evidence for the current situation, then noone can argue otherwise. The higher parts of the black country do well in snowy setups.
That said, i know that reading the northwest thread and some local media, Ashbourne up to Buxton got a right old dumping today and google maps showed that the roads were a write off extensively, so its hard to compete with that on a midlands basis (for today at least). I'll shutup now and go back to my snowless cave
Ahhh our position on the edge of the churnet valley, weaver hills and the peak district means we too tend to be on par with the likes of Ashbourne, Buxton etc! Once the precip gets here it tends to stall!

So after 1.5cm of snow it turned to sleet and began to thaw here in Alton ST10.
onwards to Tomorrow with the warning area staying firm in the north of our patch. Whats everyone thinking about tomorrow? Some surprises maybe? Or are models projecting precipitation where they werent previously?
On some other points its worth remembering that even in places like Stoke (Inner City) small pockets such as Meir Heath often see more snow by depth than some of the peak locations during any snow event. Variables will always be present and I dont think its wise to get into debate about what people are seeing with their own eyes. My best tip when it comes to snow depth… use a ruler and a camera

Alton ST10 - heavy snow currently at 1.5cm lying snow. Nice to see even if it does turn back to rain.

A very cold overnight here in Alton Staffs with a hard frost and frozen ponds. -1 currently, wondering if we may be in for some snow later this morning as the front moves in!
Look to the skies!

So close to the warning area here in Alton, ST10.
We woke to a very light dusting of snow this morning leading to a very cold day out there.
Forecast is ever changing here from sleet, to snow to cold rain. I remain optimistic however as these smaller events tend to often throw up some surprises. Do we in the Midlands think that could be the case over the next few days?

Still looks good for us in the midlands mate!!!!aint gona complain from a selfish perspective!!!
Are we talking good in the Mids xmas day or in the period as a whole though.
The models remain volatile in terms of a lack of consistency regarding a period which is not that far away. I cant be the only one seeking some clarity from the model suites now.

Well I think I may have a day off tomorrow and come back on Wednesday!

With a period of quite benign weather I wonder... whats showing as we head into June?
I remember last year we ended up with some good weather in the first half.
