Ecija 46.5c at 4pm Spanish time. 0.8c off the Spanish record. Whether it achieved that in around that hour we'll have to wait and see. Cordoba airport hasn't updated last hour that's one to watch. Some other locations have 47c from a map I saw on twitter but can't confirm the legitimacy of that.
Gulf stream as in the winds in the upper atmosphere won't be affected but the North Atlantic drift could be? Is that what you're saying? I'm slightly confused, how would this affect us if what they fear happens. Thanks.
I believe I read before that the Gulf stream keeps London 5c warmer during Winter. Anyone have any estimates on how warmer it keeps the UK during Winter?
If it did collapse and was replaced by a cool water current I think we'd be one of the snowiest locations in the world. Like Northern Japan or Newfoundland.
So you think they've got dodgy equipment and the readings are wrong. You do realise the met office investigates records to check their validity. Its not the 3rd world, I'm sure their equipment is just fine and to suggest their entire system is inaccurate and always has been is a bit odd.
Yesterday another station, Killowen, not too far from Ballywhatsit (31.2c) had reached 30.8C which is equal to the Northern Ireland record in June 1976 and July 1983. It will be quality checked anyway before it is verified as a new record.
The death toll is staggering. Did more rain fall than was forecast? I would have thought a death toll like this wouldn't be possible in somewhere like Germany in the present day, warning systems in place to evacuate people if rivers got beyond a certain point. I can only assume this went beyond their predictions. Some of the pictures look like a tsunami hit.
