  1. What gets me is that the average temp. is getting higher and higher with the continual warming trend. If we get an average winter this year then compared to maybe 30 years this would be considered above average winter. So if the warming trend continues it could be possible that in another 30 years time even a below average winter could be considerably mild as the average gets higher. In time this could distort our perception of what to expect in a cold winter and what to expect in a warm one. What the general public would consider cold in todays times would be considered quite normal x amount of years ago so as the average goes up so does perception of hot and cold. I hope this makes sense as i know what i'm trying to say but i'm struggling somewhat to put it into words!
  2. Is there anything in these articles that can be relied on (in your opinion) as fact or is it all pre fabricated politically manufactured propaganda? Why can't a distiction be made between all the fact and fiction from both sides of the debate using evidence dirived from a variety of sources in order to come up with a fact based synopsis. Is it really a case of we just don't know? Everyone has there own opinions be it general or fact based and it's just a matter of wait and see. We really won't know until it happens.
  3. And also this. I don't know about her credability and the article is obviously one sided however it reads well. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Energyand...nment/HL758.cfm
  4. I came across this interesting article that i thought would add to the debate. I hope the link works! http://home.earthlink.net/~tonyhoffman/baliunas.htm
  5. All in moderation i think is the key. Too much warming and we disappear under the ocean and too much cooling we disappear under a layer of ice.
  6. Hi Timmy, got back safe and sound thanks. Something that might be of interest to you. Saturday night in Lodz saw temperatures drop to -15C! I wasn't there because i'd already flew back but got a call from a friend over there who knows how fascinated i am with the weather. Just shows you the differences in Local variations!
  7. Location: Wielun, Lodz. Poland Temp: Max: 0C Min: -4C Weather: Cold but dry, still settled snow and still 50cm level off the roads. Looks beautiful and i'm sad to be leaving tomorrow morning (and not just because of the weather!). Anyway this is my last update from this part of the world until next time and Timmy you can now have your thread back. Thank you.
  8. Location: Weilun, Lodz, Poland Temp: Max: 0C Min: -4C (currently) Weather: Cloudy but dry, bitter easterly breeze kicking in really cuts right through you. Still have settled snow on the ground. Has been for over a week now.
  9. Location: Weilun, Lodz, Poland Max: 1C Min: -2C Weather: Light Snow This update will cover Monday 2 Jan as well since was at a party so disn't get a chance to it yesterday. Weather has settled down a bit now. Temps hovering around 0C and grainy, bitty snow mainly light fluuries with the odd heavier fall, occassionally turning to rain. Snow still settled on the ground though and the accumilations just keep adding up. Very nice scene and have some good pictures which i'll try and post when i get back to England. It's interesting how even when the temperature rises to around 3C and the sun is shining that the snow doesn't melt. It just shows you that if you have enough accumilation on the ground that although the air temps are above 0C the snow temps are still below.
  10. Sunday 1 January 2006 Location: Weilun, Lodz, Poland Temp: Max: 3C Min: 0C Warmest day so far and had drizzle on and off. Even at 0C it's not snowing however at least the snow hasn't melted yet. I hope you don't mind me gate crashing your thread Timmy but i thought i pointless to start a new thread to cover the same topic. In any case i'm only here until the 7 Jan.
  11. Saturday 31 December. Location: Weilun, Lodz, Poland Temp: Max: -2.3c Min: -5c (currently) Woke up this morning to an amazing site. After 24 Hrs of continuous snow fall, the last 6 hrs while i was asleep must have been paricularly heavy because every one was snowed in with level snow coming up over most car bonnets. Had to help dig out a path way and then the car, as well as help out countless others. The snow at the side of the pathways and roads is over head height and i must say it's something that i've never experienced before. Amazing. If back home we get half of this i think we would be satisfied for the next two winters! On a positive note for us back in England, the locals here say that this weather although not uncommon is very rare/servere for this early in the season (normally experience this February) and are expecting much worse weather in the coming months. The Guy i was speaking to said he remembers the winters of the 80's where the cars were fully covered with snow for days on end and people were trapped in there homes! One final point that i think you will find amusing. With nostalga kicking in a story came up about a wedding party that took place in one of those said winters and at the time the toilets were still outside. The temperature was -30c and they had to get a bucket inside for all the guest to wee in because it would have froze in fall motion outside! Anyway another update 2morrow. Happy New Year to All
  12. Here's the weather update for Friday 30 December, Location: Weilun, Lodz, Poland. It started snowing at about 7am and still going strong, been going for over 12 hours now! We have a good level 15 inches plus of snow and drifts of up too 3 foot, more in places. Had to help out and push two cars who were stuck in deep snow earlier today which was fun. It's amazing how people here just get on with their lives and deal with the weather. In London seriously, the city would come to a stand still. Temperature went up to about -2.8C max which is when we got our heaviest snow and now currently down to -7C with snow drifting in the wind. More snow forecast for tonight and 2morrow. I'll try post a report 2morrow before i go out for New Year.
  13. I'm just south of warsaw in Poland and can report that the temperature hasn't got above freezing since i've been here (tuesday) and we've had persistent snow. Today the temperature didn't rise above -6 and now currently on -10. I'll send daily reports while i'm out here. I'm back on 7 Jan.
  14. Bright and sunny here in London. Currently 11.5 in the Sunshine. Bring on the rain!
