  1. And the BBC are normally quite conservative with there snow forecasts. If that's conservative then can you imagine what the forecast would be like on Thursday evening .
  2. What a countryfile forecast. Snow action starts on Tuesday for the SE and gets progressively more intense as the week progresses...and that could be just the start. Been waiting for a forecast like that for over 20 years, lets hope it comes to fruition. If that Friday chart does deliver as forecast there would indeed be grid lock...a nice long weekend for some could be beckening.
  3. I put the bet on at William Hill online. The statement specifies Buckingham Palace for a London white christmas. I was quite surprised as well but just read the same on sky news.
  4. I second that hopecast also have a £10 at 8-1. Has to fall on Buckingham Palace though. Looks like the queens got her work cut out tomorrow. Knowing my luck it'll fall when she;s doing her speech and i'll miss out yet again Lol.
  5. As the GFS has been the most consistent model during the run up to this cold spell, assuming the weather plays out as forecast what year/s would the overall synoptic pattern most resemble as it stands this evening?
  6. I took a chance on Tuesday and put a tenner on a London white christmas @ 8-1. Long way to go i know but you'd be lucky to get 3-1 at the moment.
  7. Like for like the runs have improved and to me thats the main thing. The 18z and 00z have been the poorest runs over the last few days but each one has been progressivly better than the 18z and the 00z the day before as can be said for the 6z and 12z. If the 00z and the 6z tomorrow start downgrading then i'll start to worry. So all in all another day closer to the event and everything still heading in the right direction.
  8. If tomorrows 6z follows suit and is backed by the overnight runs i'm off to the bookies with a cheeky tenner.
  9. South America, parts of Australia and New Zealand are also experiences record breaking cold temperatures and these are not local variances to one another? This interesting link seems to support both sides of the argument but sways more towards cooling http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog
  10. Came across this article a couple of days ago and it contradicts your points on warming unless of course the climate of the whole of North America can be looked upon as a local variation in the context of the Earth. Heres the link: http://www.newsmax.com/brennan/gore_global_warming/2009/08/04/243871.html
  11. Can you imagine the media histeria if we were to get a snow event like that now. Our molly cuddled (not sure i've coined the right phrase there?) society would go into melt down. Everything stops with just 1cm in recent years........well down here in the soft south that is.
  12. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20081230/tuk-ex...er-dba1618.html Where does it start where does it stop? The mind boggles!
  13. Exactly! I didn't do research, i posed a question for debate among learned members. If the subject matter was shown to have some substance i would have delved into the books with vigour. As it so happens it seems i might needn't waste time. Why the need is felt to turn this thread into left trouser leging contest is beyond me. Shame really. Anyway with this in mind i kindly ask the mods to consider closing this thread as the discussions seems to be going way off track of the subject matter. I'd like to thank all the members who took the time to post there comments in this so tiresome of threads.
  14. If you bothered to read my last sentence it reads, What is the view of the members on here? Have the facts been manipulated to fit with past events or is there any truth in this? Now i never claimed to be an expert, i merely raised a subject for discussion in the relevant topic area for members to discuss and or comment on if they so choose. If you find this tiresome then maybe you concentrate your efforts in a different subject area.
  15. Your quite right. During his time many counties weren’t established the USA being one of them. Also his native tongue was French, but his phonetic word for USA was eoussas with a silent ‘S’. which is no word in French but pronounced out loud shows what he was trying to say. Much the same as tanks, he referred to them as steel cages. Dates will rarely be exact as at that period in time the Gregorian calendar was being used.
  16. Having seen to have predicted much of the past, if to be believed, what can we expect of the future? He predicts....... Iran will gain support from it's middle eastern neighbours and Russia will side also. The Pope will be assassinated and riots will ensue. An attack will be launched on Europe totally destroying Italy and southern france. Both these counties including Spain will be invaded by the middle eastern armies and World War III will begin. All of this supposedly 1 year after the democrats succeed the Republicans in the White House. Now what with the growing conflict between Iran and the US, Russia's objection to the US European based anti missile project along with the growing popularity of the democrats and the dwindling popularity of Bush and the Republicans, earily and worryingly all seems to be falling into place! What is the view of the members on here? Have the facts been manipulated to fit with past events or is there any truth in this?
  17. we're most certainly in a cooler period at the moment but whats so strange about that? There were cooler decades in the 60's,70's etc but it these were just interludes in a generally warming trend. What is needed is consistence. This cooler period is certainly one to watch to see if it to is a mere cooler interlude or the beginnings of a more dramatic change in our climate. Only time will tell but if you look at the record books you would have to go with the former.
  18. God that's really scraping the barrel. still more than i got.
  19. Out of interest what were the average temps and conditions in the summer months during the maunder minimum era?
  20. Very interesting. Similar reading to a fascinating book i've just finished called 'Not by fire but by ice'. Well worth a read for an alternative view of climate change.....if a little dramatic.
  21. Changing the subject a little as didn't want to start a new thread but i have just been intriduced to a book called 'Not by fire but by ice' - Robert Felix. What is the view on here with regard to such material. I haven't read it yet but from the snippets offered online it seems pretty damning!
  22. I'm in the same neck of the woods as you and can confirm that the lowest temperature i recorded was - 7.5 C. It's the coldest i've experienced in London in years as i always keep a bottle of water in my car and when i got into the car this morning the water was frozen solid! Fingers cross for tonight/tomorrow.
  23. i'm in Hammersmith, to the west of London and it's suddenly gone very dark again and from the look of the 2pm radar we could well be in for round two. At 11am there was a flash of lightening then a big crack of thunder. It was torential for about 10 minutes with rain and hail but after that the sky cleared and that was the end of it until.....................?
