  1. Margins are fine for this bout of wintry weather. I do hope you all get a decent dumping. Reminds me of Feb 2021. We missed out here just a few miles inland from the coast, but 30 miles up the road from me in Tadworth friend of mine got a good dumping. Shows how fine those margins are.
  2. Whilst the weather has been uneventful the last couple of weeks, we did have a day of drizzle. Look I don’t mind this benign weather as my garden hasn’t been overgrown and me tulips look set to be on time for the first time in many a year. However I will say it’s been quite a while since I felt a strong gust of wind. That’s probably been the most unusual trend I’ve seen. Summer of 2021 and into Autumn didn’t have much umph and this winter and even autumn has been largely settled. Weather is in a strange place. Just seen LA having a blizzard warning. I wasn’t even in double digits of age the last time that happened
  3. They never learn. Cold being forecasted so far out is never a certainty as an outcome for our little island. To coin one of their favourite phrases “more runs needed”
  4. Been rather benign weather down here. Dry days on end with clear skies and cloudy skies on and off. Did have a small amount of drizzle yesterday, but nothing to write home about. Whilst for some this winter has been boring, for me it’s been refreshing. Had a small snow fix and also not prolonged mild spells. Lastly where I live, a nice little nature reserve up the road from me. Every year in mid winter we have sheep come graze for about 8 weeks. Last few winters because of mild conditions on the whole, there’s a lot of growth for the sheep to get through. Milder conditions have also meant most plants and trees springing before spring. This winter has prevented that. So likely the sheep will be done within 6 weeks and also the trees and other plants having a much needed lie in. So this winter has been most welcome here from a nature perspective.
  5. Remember that period well. It was my 16th birthday weeks later when here in the South we got a dumping of snow. My brother took me for my 1st pint and we wound up outside the pub having a snowball fight. Snow memories, just the best!
  6. A dry, sunny crisp start to the day. 5oc here at the moment. Contrary to some, I've actually enjoyed this winter more than the previous ones of late. Had more cold and average temp days than others gone by. Should Feb close out with a dry average spell, that's ok with me. I've had snow, frost and dry cold days and sadly mild rain guff in between. Though offered to me at the start of winter and I would've taken your hand off. Would've preferred more snow, but hey can't have it all.
  7. Had all that drama prior to the cold spell and snow in December. Lesson from that was it can change on short notice days leading up to the event. Constant rinse and repeat in that thread. I admire the knowledge in there, but crikey one bad day of models and it’s like someone crapped in their cornflakes. Thats the thing with the weather, it’s unpredictable! So expect the good and the bad in equal measures and you’ll never be disappointed.
  8. Being someone in the procurement profession, I remember them re-tendering this service and the Met Office losing out in the tender process. Lowest cost never equates to greater value. Be interesting to see who wins out when the contract is re-tendered. MeteoGroup have been pretty awful when forecasting cold I’ll say that much.
  9. Had snow down here which hung around for a week in December. Wasn’t copious amounts compared to days past, but given the run of snowless winters, I’d take it. Had another week of cold weather very low single digit temps last week and into this week. Apart from the mild dross that arrived at Christmas and lasted a few weeks, I’ve enjoyed this winter. Felt more seasonal than previous winters. I do hope it delivers for others seeking the white gold mine.
  10. Another dry crisp day. High of 4oc. Enjoying the run of dry days and may it continue. Mild rank stuff can stay gone for now.
  11. Sun and blue skies here. 2oc. That’s more like it. Looking dry and sunny next few days. Love it.
  12. Crisp dry start to the day. -3. Looks set to be the theme for the week. Despite the grim mild wet interludes this winter, on face of it for me down here it’s been a good winter. December had 2 weeks of cold weather and snow. Another dry cold week for this week and maybe into next for Jan, albeit snowless, it feels more seasonal. I’d taken that at the start of winter if you offered it to me.
  13. Thought it was April 1st as Met Office forecasted potential snow and ice overnight and cold rain arrived Still a dry week is most welcomed after weeks of wind and rain.
  14. Strangely I have the Biathlon World Cup on which is being held in Germany and the commentators talking about the future of winter sports and they mentioned that Oslo has 30 days less of snow than in the previous decades and further north of that 10-17 days. Almost feels like snow is something future generations will reminisce about once seeing. Sad times.
  15. Absolute garbage weather here again. Yesterday was a break from rain. Gusty and bright. Today more chuffing rain. Couldn’t give a stuff if I have saved on heating bills. Plants are trying to spring when spring isn’t even here yet. It’s so out of sync, it’s alarming. I imagine many crops have taken a battering too. More to life than counting pennies.
  16. Endless days of rain here on the coast and quite frankly fed up with it already as it feels never ending. some dry days please and I couldn’t care if it means it’s cold. Just something to allow the ground to dry out a bit.
  17. I agree with that last part around this winter still being far from over. The December cold shot was not something I anticipated or even would’ve expected, so I did get a snow fix albeit a small dose. Would still make this better than the last 4 winters.
  18. What a dross day. Nothing but wind and rain and yup that’s right, more flooding. It feels just typical UKish at this moment in time. Political unrest, social unrest and weather unrest. Can’t seem to get it spot on here. I am hoping you all had a fab and healthy Christmas.
  19. Nothing but heavy rain this morning when going to collect Christmas grub. Flooding aplenty. This mild weather can do one. Bring back the cold.
  20. Dry here after a barrage of rain yesterday. Blue sky with cloud. Ok for me. 10oc. Much more tolerable than the rank crap yesterday. Mod thread a bit crazy at the moment with model uncertainty, so will give that viewing a break.
  21. Absolutely crud weather. Had rain down here now for nearly 20 hours. Some flooding around. Thawing snow and heavy rain never a great combo. Today driving to the office was quite the experience. Many drivers driving like it’s a dry sunny day How I want dry crisp days back again!
  22. In an ironic twist on a Shakin Stevens classic, “snow is thawing all around me” I know some coldies wanted some of the white stuff or even a snowmaggedon event are quite disappointed the cold spell didn’t deliver, but look 2 weeks of what I consider winter weather in December is a right Brucie bonus and there is still time for more. The season isn’t over. I’ve been lucky enough to have 6 days of lying snow, crisp dry sunny days and seeing Christmas card snow rooftops for mornings on end. Which is much more than the last 3 years prior delivered. So don’t be to down and let’s see what the rest of winter has on offer.
  23. Another cold crisp start to the day. -1. It’s been 2 weeks of cold weather and I for one have loved it. Been a great start to winter and still much to come I reckon.
  24. I remember that winter. Mainly because the 2 that precluded it were absolute wash outs. Was playing local football at the time and there was a huge fixture pile up at the back end of those winters because of months of waterlogged pitches. Played on some frozen pitches during December 2001 and was excited at the prospect of maybe bringing out the yellow ball for a snow match. Hadn’t played in one since my school days. Was gutted the snow never came our way.
  25. You can go back to any time in history and find hard times. For me these last couple of years, in my lifetime I might add. Been the most challenging. From what I have witnessed. 80’s arguably best decade for indie bands. Got me into The Pixies and Stone Roses. 90’s weren’t too bad and I’d say 2000-2005 had some good stuff in it.
