  1. Another crisp start to the day. -1oc here. Still lying snow in my garden and parts of my road. This spell has been memorable for me. Dry cold sunny days and nice small dumping of snow. Going for a walk yesterday feeling and hearing the crunch of snow. That’s the snap, crackle and pop right there. I know not all coldies got their snow fix, but to have a spell like this early in winter, I have to like the chances that by end of winter everyone would’ve experienced some snow. December’s down here have been for the last few years been nothing but soggy windy washouts with the exception of 2020 when Christmas Eve and Day were dry and single figures. The world has been a tough and brutal place for the start of this decade, but this spell of cold has shown me there is still some magic left in the world
  2. Lovely outdoors today haven’t had a proper smattering of snow since Jan 2019. Was gutted when missed out in Feb 2021. It’s early doors winter wise, so let’s hope there is more to come.
  3. The lying snow here has frozen over and remained, so nice to wake up to something white. Had a walk early evening yesterday and was great to feel the crunch under my feet. First time experiencing that here since January 2019. I sometimes don’t understand the doom and gloom in the model thread. Last year, the set ups hinted to something colder and it never happened. Lesson was anything can change in a split second. The snow in my area wasn’t forecasted until Friday. The previous week a warm up was forecasted on Sunday and we got snow instead. The weather can change just like that. Never give up hope
  4. Been a while since I had frost on my windscreen. 0oc at the moment. My Westie is dying to get out and have a roll in the frost on the ground
  5. Another hard frost today. Very crisp day. Woke up to -3 All we need is a heavy sprinkling of snow and we have our dream winter’s day. I’d take this all day over gusty mild dross. I am going to enjoy it and I would implore others too as well.
  6. Been observing the threads and the Mod Thread in particular and the sheer range of emotions. I am happy for once for something that feels a bit more like winter. It doesn’t just have to be snow for winter to feel like winter. I am loving these cold crisp days and here on the south coast (I am a few miles inland) we have a hard frost! It’s most welcome. Snow would always be a welcome bonus, but I wouldn’t be hugely disappointed with a cold dry winter. Makes a change from the mild muck that seems never ending.
  7. Had more single digit dry days here. Frosts have abated for the last 5 days, but in general I have enjoyed this weather which has been more seasonal. All I need now is a little dumping of snow and I'll be quite content, though models and forecasts not doing their part.
  8. Been crisp dry days here on the coast. Maximum day temps have been in the 6-8oC range. It's been refreshing having sharp frosts and more winter weather. I know most would like a dash of snow sprinkled in, but right now not complaining.
  9. I've enjoyed a run of single digit temperature days this week. Sun has been out as has the blue sky and some most welcome frosts. Starting to feel more seasonal compared with the last few weeks.
  10. I do recall even in the early 2000's 2 snow events which were in March 2001 I think (might be over on the month) and in Feb 2005 here on the coast. The winter of 1999/2000 was awful. Non-stop rain from late October to nearly March in 2000. Plain yuk and even though at that time I was 19, it did feel like a turning point for more milder winters that followed. From 2009 to 2013 down here we had decent snowfall events. Since then aside from the BFTE 2018 and a cold day in Jan 2019, there's been a real snow drought. It does feel like that will be the trend that we have 6-7 relatively snowless winters and then maybe a small cluster of 2-3 winters with more snow events. I still hold a candle we could see something this winter (wishful thinking if anything else ).
  11. Cloudy and wet start to the day here in Sussex, but the sun making a fist of it. 5oC. Next week looks drier. All I can say is hey Scotland send some of that snow down here
  12. Another clear and crisp sunny day. -2 to start the day with widespread frost. 2 days in a row. For what we've had so far, I'd bank and take it!
  13. From BFTE in 2018. My Westie loves the snow and has been waiting for it’s return! IMG_5661.mp4
  14. Well blow me down! We have clear skies, a frost and sunshine! First time in 14 days I've seen blue in the skies. 3oC here.
  15. Happy New Year one and all. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Absolute dross weather down here on the coast last couple of weeks. Days of constant rain with mist and fog. Just ugly. I hope there are clearer skies on the horizon!
  16. Same here. 3 winters and nothing of meaningful snow. I think February this year we had 2 hours of flurries and that turned to rain. I imagine the South West have copped the most of the snow drought. Climate change indeed
  17. It's been absolute dross down here for the last 5 days. Nothing but grey skies, rain and more rain. Yuck! I really hope this mild pattern naffs off sharpish.
  18. I know the gutting feeling of missing snow. 24th Jan this year it looked like the white stuff would reach us here on the coast. Missed it by 30 miles! A friend in Tadworth had a good dumping, whilst here in Brighton rain, rain and more rain. Even my missus working in Edenbridge got in on the snow action. The phrase "there's always next year" is one I have banded for the last near 3 years since we had some here.
  19. Quite agree. Now would not be the best for 1947 1962/63 winter event. I'd go further and probably say we'd have the same issues we did with those winters with an infrastructure not built to cope with such an extreme event. I've not experienced a prolonged winter of cold weather. One recent event was March 2012 when certainly here in the South East it barely got in double digits and was a cold month in general. I think many of us would welcome and enjoy a few days of snow in a winter, but I think going above that might be a bit too much for my liking. Friend of mine in Canada is fed up with snow by the 2nd week of winter and she faces months of it. So it is a case of too much of it can spoil it.
  20. Absolutely agree. My parents says the same thing of that period that its a huge conception Britain's winters of yesterday were always snowy. The only winter I can recall where there was more than 1 snow event or more than 2 days of cold weather in a row was over the winter of 2010/11 and the weatherbomb of Feb 2018. Snow days are rarities down my neck of the woods and usually as quickly as the snow lays it thaws by the evening. I'd gladly take just 1 snow day and consider that good fortune. Last winter I didn't actually mind. Had quite a lot of single digit temp days and whilst just out of reach of the snow, I'd take a dry winter over a damp squib winter. We'll be either fortunate or unfortunate (depending on one's preference) to see winters of 1947 or 1963 again. UK just has the rotten luck of being out of reach for the prolonged cold and first in line for the weather fronts off the Atlantic. It was fun getting slightly excited by the outside chance of a white Xmas and that's all it was. Was never a nailed on certainty. I think there's too much of a lofty expectation that Britain are 'due' a prolonged cold winter from certain corners.
  21. I remember those days. I'm trying to remember the poster's name who lived in Braemar I think it was and copped it for always reveling in the mild winters we got for a while from 2013/14 onwards. Whomever it was made me chuckle.
  22. Indeed. My location showing some cold weather early next week, but beyond that huge ifs and buts. Hoping the cold will dig in a bit
  23. A mild wet Christmas Day it is. whilst it was a faint glimmer of something special for the big day, it wouldn't be typically British to not answer the door when the cold comes knocking. If other parts of the UK get some white stuff, enjoy. Still hurts missing out on it back in Feb. The fine margins are unreal. All one can do is hope elements smile down on us for once.
  24. In Brighton on the south coast. Live in a little village just on the outskirts of the city which is 3 miles inland. It's been an odd year weather wise down here as there has been barely a breeze and I can't recall such a docile year weather wise.
