  1. Can't say I've seen ramping in the ramp threads
  2. That is nuts! If we had that here, I have visions of axe-wilding novelists stalking the streets at night!
  3. Can't say it pains me to say farewell to the dross of late and bring a most welcome dry spell which will finally feel a bit more seasonal. Our winters don't always have to be snowmageddon or bust.
  4. I have to say the climate like the government and current living standards is just crap. Nothing Great in Great Britain and that really adds to the what feels like a bleak time in our history. Feels like we are getting the worst of everything at the moment. I really want the weather to be our friend in need and it ain't happening. Truly crud weather last few months.
  5. From my own personal perspective, I find winter the more polarising season because of the potential of snow and given it's scarce rarity these days, I have the mindset of even if there is a whiff of a chance at snow, it peaks my interest given it's appearance chances. With Spring, Summer and Autumn as straightforward weather wise, it's dry or wet. You will get days that are reflective of the season. You may see something wintry in early spring or late autumn, but they are rare as hens teeth. The dry or wet weather doesn't quite fill with the excitement like a snow event does, but again that's just me and that might be the case for others who seem to come alive with interest when Winter rolls around. I don't wish for a historical deep freeze event, far from it in fact. Just more a couple of snow days and a few good days of frosts and I am good. I peek in the model thread, but I mainly avoid it as I am nowhere clued up about models and that thread is to discuss models rather than reading tea leaves. Without a doubt, that thread goes bonkers in winter. My biggest gripe with that thread is that many try to get to carried away and hung up on what the models don't show rather than what they do (by both cold lovers and doom merchants) and that always seems to end up derailing the thread. I don't envy the mods. Snow seems to be the weather that drives the most emotive responses (whether we get snow or don't). I guess with the other seasons, mainly summer for example. If we have a whacking ridge of high pressure over us and into Europe, I am assuming pattern changes are slower to come by and hence probably the tumbleweed effect we see in activity in the model thread and plus I imagine many of us are enjoying long summer days outside Enough of my rambling
  6. What absolute crud weather it has been. Nothing but wind and rain. Just give me dry weather. I am sick to death of this crud. Giving me Winter 2013/14 vibes. However, Happy New Year everyone and I hope you all had a fab Christmas outside of the useless weather!
  7. I am somewhat happier today as this marks the start of a drier spell of weather Had a few more heavy downpours this weekend and yesterday and there's literally nowhere else for all the water to go. I know some want some proper snowmageddon, but given the sheer amount of water we've absorbed, can we hold that off for a few weeks more whilst we dry out
  8. Rained all day yesterday and continuing today and my road has flooded, again! I say this as nicely as possible to the Atlantic. Please f**k off already!
  9. Mrs SussexSnowman is reporting snow in Sundridge near Sevenoaks in Kent
  10. -1 at the moment. Hard frost on the ground. Rooftops with a shade of white on them and the sun out in all it's glory. Lovely to see. Some of the guys in the MOD Thread need to live and enjoy the moment when we have a cold spell. Worry about what tomorrow brings when it comes.
  11. The lightest of snow flurries down here this morning (proper blink and you'll miss it like the odd dusting). Not even an hour's worth. Technically snow in November, so something different from the usual norm. Chilly start.
  12. For me I like winters to have a chillier feel with a mix of dry spells and the odd snow event. Can't say you'll see me pining for a 62/63 type of winter. The winter of 2010/11 was exceptional and I know those are rare life events for sure. If there is to be snowless winters, I'd rather cold and dry days. Nothing worse than mild and wet dross and that really brings out the SAD in me.
  13. Don't even get the 1 day snow events much these days neither. Becoming rarer and rarer and hence why there is so much excitement when we do get some me Mum bless her says Autumn is a 6 month season as Winter's aren't becoming of their name
  14. Aye. I doff my cap to them being able to articulate concisely what the models mean I do find the deep dives really interesting. Never thought I'd watch the Met on YouTube daily
  15. 3oc here today. Brisk to say the least. Cloudy, but no chance of meatballs. Looks like this dry crisp spell ends Wednesday. It's a most welcome spell of dry weather and my hope is it continues even if it warms up a tad. Did like the Deep Dive video by the Met yesterday where Alex Deakin did a good little piece on the complexity of forecasting snow.
  16. Remember that event well. Started snowing in East Sussex round about 1pm on the 11th and carried on for about 4 hours. Will upload some pics later. Was only about 3 cm, but I'd take that. Plus the rest of the week it remained as temps were sharp! Mild muck returned soon after before mid Jan and Feb was drier. Overall just for that snow event, I'd take it as past the BOTE in 2018, we've only had 1 snow day essentially and that was Feb 2019. We missed out on the Feb 2021 snow event for being too far south! So for me that 6 day cold snap was fantastic given the recent barren spell
  17. Agree with this. I get sometimes its frustrating the models dangle carrot after carrot and never give it, but sometimes when we least expect we get the goods. Had that down here for 6 days last year. Like you I salute the knowledgeable posters who day after day and even hour after hour provide insights that help me understand the great complexity that is British Weather a bit more!
  18. So true this. December 11th last year I was out with family in Bognor Regis, started snowing, but turned to rain. As we drove back to Brighton through some small villages, it was snowing. As we got home (outskirts of Brighton inland 4 miles off the coast) we had heavy snow for 4 hours. Enough that it settled and we had lying snow for 6 days. There were no pre-warnings. Shows how unpredictable snow can be and why so difficult to forecast.
  19. The model thread has certainly been lively this last week watched it unfold last Wednesday when I was in the office. All I would really like is just a dry spell of weather. Down here just as the ground has begun to firm up after relentless rain, we've had days of rain that follows. So some restbite will be nice. Yes most would enjoy snow, but right now I'd take dry and cold.
  20. That time of year again when Autumn and Winter encourage me out of hibernation! Showers, showers and more showers. Been a proper washout here just inland off the southern coast. The sun is out. 9oc here. I don't mind the chilly edge to this weather, feels a tad more seasonal. Plus side is my dogs love the soft ground and shown that through rolling in the leaves!
  21. Loving the pictures. Whilst it might not be winter, it’s safe to assume that everyone over the last few months has had a dose of snow Who doesn’t love dog related snow videos. Here’s mine from December when we got the white stuff. My Westie just loves it! She may be getting on in years and hampered by arthritis, she’s still young at heart and I hope she has more snow days left. IMG_4145.MOV
  22. My Aunt lives in Sheffield. So far 22cm in her location. Still snowing. My cousins and their kids have had a fun day of it. Not jealous much. Glad some are enjoying it
  23. It’s been peeing down here last 2 days post mini snow event. How I haven’t missed it I hope those cashing in on the snow up north are having a blast and enjoying it
  24. Snow today, gone today it was nice surprise for about 3 hours. I hope everyone else who missed out on the white stuff in December have had a good dumping.
