  1. Cloudy day today but with the sun only just behind the clouds & virtually no wind it’s feeling very warm. Again, I’m estimating based on forecasts as signal isn’t the best again, I would say a pleasant 17c. Comfortably T-shirt weather. I’m not taking any notice of the car tho . Last day on this dig today . Mildly dramatic skies this morning… Car’s have serious wishful thinking! I’m surprised as there’s no direct sun shining on it
  2. It’s a grand day out at the mound again today….high of 14c but again when in a sheltered spot in full sun, it surely feels much warmer. Having a pleasant day just cleaning & tidying a trench today. Not too taxing and mostly working on my own - very peaceful
  3. Turned out nice for the rest of the day here. Almost unbroken sunshine, dark clouds came & went quickly with no real threat. Reached high of 16c. Could have been higher without the cool breeze. Spent the afternoon pottering in the garden, finally getting around to taking the dahlia pots out of the summer house & out in the garden.….all 17 pots & although they’re a bit leggy, they’ve certainly sprung into life now.
  4. What a difference a day makes! I am fed up with the inconsistency of this May. Yesterday was warm sunshine all day (admittedly lucky to avoid any of the local rain showers), and wearing factor 50 (still got caught). Today is low cloud & a nasty northerly, wearing body warmer, winter headband & gloves! I happily accept this weather in April, but not mid-May. Don’t need heat but just some consistent mild weather would be appreciated.
  5. Thankfully we avoided all the rain out Skipsea way, had glorious sunshine all day & without a temperature gauge I can only say the sun was hot enough to catch even with factor 50 on . Under the sea fret now, as others are. Goodnight all
  6. Nothing materialised at Skipsea, despite the forecast, all just seemed to pass us by. A warm day in the end, I would guesstimate high of 18c. Rain did seem to have fallen further inland, coming home, between Burton Agnes & Rudston was wet. Home was dry but now we have light rain falling. No storms but some lovely bubbly clouds on the horizons this afternoon. Absolutely no point checking tomorrow’s forecast until tomorrow …
  7. I left Beverley about 4.30pm in heavy rain, drove through a few showers then got home to rumbles of thunder. Unfortunately the dark skies were too far to the west and seemed to skim around us. No further action
  8. Didn’t amount to much after all, about 3 rumbles of thunder. It was sitting inland/sw & seems to have dissipated as it moved across to the south of us. Ah well, better luck next time.
  9. Just got home having driven through heavy rain showers, & we have thunder here!!! No lightening see though & feels like it could be just passing by….
  10. Although it was cloudy this morning it was particularly mild at 13.5c. This afternoon certainly produced some very warm sunshine. Just wished I’d been able to sit out in it….unfortunately am literally ‘under the weather’ since last night. No it’s not alcohol induced either as could barely drink much at our coronation bbq. After a forced dog walk I’ve barely been able to lift my head up from the sofa all day. Ok, moan over. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
  11. Well it’s dry & 16c here. The sun is trying really hard to break through the cloud cover. A pleasant day so far. And any potential rain this evening seems to be getting pushed back. Roll on Coronation BBQ in the local
  12. A surprising day here, rain but relatively mild on this morning’s walk. Thankfully yesterday’s bitter wind has disappeared. Went out late morning and as the day progressed the skies gradually cleared and we had a glorious afternoon. Sun was very warm, reaching a high of 17c although the car was reading 21c sat in the sun! Some decent convection seen in the distance and looked stormy into late afternoon/early evening, but nothing quite materialised on the thunder front. Late afternoon Taken 1/2hr later, turning stormy.
  13. The sun has been lovely today & when sheltered felt warm enough to work without a coat, but a cool breeze kept the temps lower than it ‘looked’. I’m guessing at 13c max (based on another reporter) but I would say it felt about 10c in the breeze. Big positive was that the sun stayed out most of the day so got a good bit of vit D 10.30am 12.30pm 4.30pm
  14. Sorry Sean, you forgot to turn right into Yorkshire again! However, the sun is lovely but there’s a cold breeze so coat still needed. Shocking signal out here today so unsure on temp. @Jeremy Shockeyposted elsewhere with a 13c so I’ll go with that albeit a little closer to the coast
  15. So the swallows are slow to return, still only the odd one or two seen. Had a report of swifts arriving on Sunday further down/across the wolds, which feels a bit early to me. I wasn’t hopeful of seeing them so soon, but by that afternoon the swifts arrived in numbers. Absolutely brilliant. Can’t beat the sound of swifts soaring & screeching! I know ‘screeching’ doesn’t sound a good thing, but it’s the ultimate sound of summer for me. Feeling good (if not still a little cold ) that summer’s not too far away
  16. The Brimstones are still about here, which are always the early ones, and the bees do come out also when the sun’s out. They don’t seem to mind the cool temps, just want the sunshine, which unfortunately hasn’t been as consistent as last month. Today is light rain which is forecast to clear in a few hours. Might make for a muddy day out in the fields but hopefully we’ll see some brightness to dry it out again this afternoon
  17. It started off nice this morning, a pleasant early dog walk approx 5c. On arrival at site in Skipsea it looked to be a promising start & I toyed with the idea of putting sun cream on, the sun was quite warm. However as the day is progressing the clouds have come over & threatens with the odd spot of rain but nothing has really materialised. Feeling cool when not working. Best keeping working then…back to it
  18. The mound we see is a motte & bailey (enclosure with a moat) that was constructed in the Norman era. About 6 years ago there was some research & bore samples taken that suggest the mound is built over an Iron Age burial mound. I have just started an archaeological dig there. We are excavating a site in front of the mound, where the Norman castle was, which is possibly medieval enclosure, possibly a hall house but could be earlier. Also to the left of Skipsea castle is known to be a Mesolithic lake. We are also excavating a trench there to explore the Mesolithic evidence of hunter gatherer people living/fishing there. All very exciting.
  19. What a contrast today in Yorkshire!!! @Jeremy Shockey @vizzy2004 This was my experience… Lots of showers and occasional sunshine, bitter wind.
  20. It was a chilly but fairly bright start to the day, 7am walk. Forecast seemed to suggest mostly just cloud & some sun breaks. Instead it’s moderate rain showers & cold wind quickly interspersed with lovely sunshine. I’m working outside today & layed up with thermals, waterproofs & hat & gloves. Alternating between being freezing & wet to sweating under all the layers & wondering where my sun cream is. Proper, I say, proper April showers weather. Rain coming down behind Skipsea Castle (motte & Bailey mound)
  21. I did check from my garden last night a couple of times but too much cloud cover. I did also think I need to check this page before I go to the pub for a couple, otherwise I could have had a drive out to the coast where it’s often more likely to be seen. Ah, well, next time
  22. It seemed to brighten up here only towards the end of the afternoon. A nice sky briefly early evening before a spot of rain againl A nice shaft of light above the garden about 7.30pm…
