  1. Despite some of the poor synoptics the models have been showing the forecast for my area doesn't look terrible. Some showery outbursts forecast (Which never tend to come to pass anyways at least lately) but partly sunny/white cloud and low 20s for my area mostly.
  2. If I had to guess I would say likely ether more convective over frontal rain or more mobile weather systems with more heat about meaning rain comes in heavier but hangs around less.
  3. I am wondering in NW/SE split set ups how does the SW and NE tend to fare? I guess South Wales counts as SW so ill give how it tends to run out for here. If the split is stable we tend to join ether one or end up in a battleground between the two set ups. Like say NW has 7 days of rain and SE 7 days of sun often we end up with 3/4 days of rain and 3/4 days of sun.
  4. Weather here was mixed. It poured down with rain until about 2pm then the sun came out about 5pm. Tomorrow looks pretty good weather-wise for here forecast of 18 degrees and sunny. Rest of the week looks mixed with sunny showers and mid teens though.
  5. Fed up of constant rain, gloom and cold this spring. I know this place doesn't have the best climate but southern UK isn't Reykjavík,Bergen or Ketchikan Alaska (All climates most folks here would deem awful to live in and are basically stereotypical British climates). Go take a hike Atlantic lows.
  6. I tend to pay no attention to anything beyond 7 days. Taking FI forecasts like gospel only leads to disappointment or relief (Depending on your preferred weather ofc) .
  7. Thank god for the GFS showing more anticyclonic weather for April. March has at least IMBY felt more like a unsettled November with endless wet Atlantic westerlies and grey skies. It has rained at some point everyday.
  8. It has been a wet March for this area. The weekend was nice though Saturday started off cloudy and showery but brightened up in the afternoon and was warm (13-14 degrees can feel warm this time of year after winter). Sunday was also a fine bright day as well a nice weekend before the Atlantic onslaught this coming week. Strangely despite being a zonal Atlantic driven month this March hasn't been that cold apart from a few days of snow and cold. I would have thought Atlantic driven weather would lead to cooler than average temps this time of year with the SSTs being at their coldest and suppression of high temps due to cloud and rain. (It has felt more like a unsettled October/November than a unsettled March, unsettled Marches are normally colder than normal IMBY).
  9. I have a newbie question I was wondering. What synoptics are generally the sunniest and cloudiest. Sunniest from personal experience seems to be anticyclonic southerlies and cloudiest cyclonic Atlantic westerlies or anticyclonic easterlies/north easterlies (the classical anticyclonic gloom). At least this seems to be the case for south Wales where I live. Could be different elsewhere like I can see say SW England or West Wales doing better for sun in a NE wind as theres more chance for North Sea cloud to break up/get blocked by highground).
  10. I was wondering I know not a moan or ramp but are there ever Bartlett highs in summer (Or outside Nov-Mar). My understanding of Bartlett highs is a anticyclonic southerly pattern (pumping in air from Southern Europe,North Africa and the Azores) so I'm guessing they would be more welcome in the warmer months due to the possbble warm settled weather.
  11. Somehow it is raining here at a pressure of 1025ish. Even in a UK winter that seems odd that you'd get rain at this relatively high pressure.
  12. I really hope that the cold March that some folks are talking about doesn't come to pass. Bring on double digit highs and sunshine I say. It would mean less heating bills for sure.
  13. Personal observations I have no real data to back this claim up but I have found lately the past few years the weather instead of having varied weather in say a week the weather has lurched between extreme bone dry settled spells and washouts with weeks of wall to wall rain each spell lasting around 4-6 weeks.
  14. I am liking the calm anticyclonic weather. Sure it isn't the most exciting weather but its better than endless zonallty and rain riddled Atlantic cyclonic westerlies (Like the weather from mid Dec to the New Year). Even in the cloudier spells of winter anticyclones I can still get out and do outdoor activity without being wet and covered in mud.
  15. I was wondering with all this talk of bills what would be the best weather set up to reduce energy bills? I would guess a anticyclonic southerly/south-easterly as SWlies do bring dampness which offsets the warmer temps somehow.
  16. If I had to name the single worse winter climate I would nominate Southern England at least in Wales,Scotland and to an extent Northern England you have easy access to higher ground which can get some pretty decent snowy spells in even a average winter (I live in SW Wales and there has been cases where a town at sea level had rain and a town at about 250-300 meters or so had deep snow 12 inches+). I had lowland climates more in mind here but good points you've made.
  17. In the Northern Hemisphere at least not counting remote areas NW Europe (UK,Ireland,Northern France,Benelux) and the PNW (Oregon, Washington, BC, Coastal AK) are the worse winter climates. A mixture of endless wet gloomy westerlies, lack of snowfall, low sunshine hours, short daylight hours due to being north of 45N combined with gloom and being too cool for a warm winter but too mild for snow.
  18. I wish high pressure would move north at least. It would probably be even milder with wind straight from North Africa but Id rather 15 and dry than 10 and heavy rain. Plus even more saving on energy bills due to less dampness.
  19. Forgive me if this is a bad necro but I wanted to comment. For my town (SE Wales) the following pop to mind. 2007= Year without a summer, felt more like a early extended autumn with the constant rain and below 20 highs. 2012= Similar to 2007 but not as bad as August was pretty decent for me at least. 2017= Not as dreadful as 07/12 but just a very belch amemic summer with sub 20 highs and cloud galore. 2021= Just a cloudfest with no real dymanic or intresting weather (At least the likes of 2007 offered exciting storms at times).
