This may already have been, wrote about.... but does anyone remember the time they didn't put the clocks back/forward?? Early 70s, I'd say 72... they did it stop accidents with children but accidents increased ( and the following year, it reverted back to normal )... I remember going to school, about 6 or 8 of us all holding hands with 2 or 3 mum's... I could be wrong in the year but I remember it snowed before xmas, if my memory is right?? We also had to wear reflective wear, it wasn't called HiVis then... lol... sorry if this as already been done, just doing a remember thing lol... Ged

The best ones always happen like this Can't remember the year... might have been 81?? But me and mi father ( r.i.p ) had watched a film which finished roughly 12-30am which was late for a work day lol, I'd put the milk bottles out ( that's how long ago it was lol ) and it was green out.... but at about 6-00am, he woke me and said it had SNOWED HEAVY... I thought he was joking but nope at least 6inchs in less the about 4/5hrs... wish I'd seen it, some snowstorm... so yes these are the best ones

If this is associated to SSW... that's not really started yet, which will take the models by next wkd to get a grip with it.... all I can say is BRING IT ON And I love climate change... because it means the UK, can be like the U.S.... RUSSIA... CHINA n KOREA

In fairness it snowed all day, Tuesday ( more or less ) but only settled on grass or bloody pallets at work lol... didn't really settle on the pavement or roads... or it could have been a half decent covering in its least sense lol... ok a covering that looked like snow

Your last part ' in the future snow and ice etc ' absolute nonsense, just like the SCIENTIST in 2000 I think it was, who said ' would western Europe ever see SNOW, again '... we've seen more cold and snowy winter's since 2007... than we did in 25/30yrs previously, its all to do with patterns in my view If we go to 47 it was 16yrs to 63 then either 15yrs or 18yrs to 78 or 81, i think 78 was colder and more snow... then 15yrs to 96 and then 14yrs 2010, if that aint a pattern... then I don't know... and some of them, didn't get anywhere near 47 or 63 in terms of intense cold and snow... the holy grails of winter's, in which we coldies crave I can only assume you believe in climate change/gw... if that's the case america, China, the alps and South pole must be in global cooling and the rest of europe/UK must be global warming... and the met office using the 100yrs to prove climate change... LMAO Unless the poles melt and a hungry polar bear knocks on mi door... I'll believe in patterns... in what we can read from what people wrote 200, 300 plus yrs ago the weather was very similar what we've seen over the yrs One last thing, I've read and watched programmes many times about the yanks doing things with the weather ( otherwise what's HAARP for?? )... and for those who think it's twaddle, they controlled the weather in the Vietnam war... they made it rain to flush out Vietnamese in the underground tunnels they used to hide and move about... its all there for people to check for themselves There will be many, many people who won't like what I've said... but that's my opinion... just like everyone else's

Yes I totally agree... we had no central heating in our house, just 3 storage heaters... stupidly placed, lol... single glazed windows, so when it got very cold the windows ICED UP as much inside, as out... the amount of blankets we used in winter and a hot water bottle were the RULE of the house lol... and in the mid 70s, with power strikes ( Tele going off air about 5pm, if I remember... using a camping stove to cook food and keep warming!! ) it was unbelievably cold inside as well... if anything similar happened in today's age, power strikes and xtreme cold... how would those below 40/45yrs of age, managed lol... it would be interesting

That was a time when the so called ' GW/ CLIMATE CHANGE DEBATE ' started, so yes in my eyes it is related... the 1st time I heard anything about climate change was a NASA professor called JOHN HANSEN but he was calling for global cooling in the 70s, which year I can't remember but by the early 80s, was saying global warming... the weather and everything related, will only do whatever the weather will do!! And there's not much we can do about it... if it was to go back to a ICE AGE again... what could we do, NOWT... other than to learn to hunt again, lol The earth as been a lot HOTTER... and a lot COLDER, in the past... we will probably never see anything like it in our life time?? But you used the MET OFFICE in one your replies but they only go 100yrs, which is a long time... but not in terms of weather or climate change?? When say this year or that year was one the hottest or coldest, we've seen... how?? Yes I agree totally on the jet I've never said otherwise in about the 8yrs I've followed this forum, that's why we get more than our fair share of mild winter's... but even that's down to patterns, drops to our South and stays there... helps us no end for cold ( I know other things have to fall in place as well ) but stays to our North, normally game over I'm ending this topic on GW, you have your beliefs... You've lost me, also... Yes we have lost VAST FORESTS in the areas I've spoken of, which acted as a WINDSHIELD... winds that once helped our winter's, have been guided else where... I wouldn't say I've the knowledge to the ins and outs of the mechanics involved!! I remember watching a programme on bbc1, with my father i was about 15 at the time, think it was late 70s/ early 80s, it was hosted by the bloke who did ' tomorrow's world at the time ' and I'm sure it was a prelude to the hysteria/hype of global warming... and it mentioned that winds we got from a certain direction in winter was being lost by commercial deforestation in the countries mentioned, as they were being directed else where, as the once windbreakers had gone... maybe they are being grown again but to get back we're they once where, would take a very long time, I'm sure... but that said I'm still in the opinion of pattern, instead of GW/climate change, and history as shown patterns before and will in the future... regardless of the topic!!
