  1. Some very forlorn looking sheep on the metoffice Trawsgoed webcam
  2. Miserable weather here today - cloudy, cold (2c) with a few sleety bits falling from the sky. A few traces of yesterday's snowfall left - my miniature snowman has lost his head and arms and is now just a triangular clump of snow.
  3. Had a shower of sleety rain which didn't seem to affect the snow too much, but the temperature has climbed to about 3c now and I imagine the thaw will really start to set in. Hoping to go sledging for a bit this afternoon with my sister but not holding my breath!
  4. 9.30 radar shows that it's knocking on my door now, and skies are darkening to the west. Will be marginal here though - temperature is between 1+2c, so unless it drops during precipitation, I could end up with sleet or wet snow to wash all that I have away... Will keep you posted!
  5. You're gonna have fun updating your signature when this is all over mate
  6. Anyone else in the southern coastal counties interested by the little trail of ppn coming out of the main band that's moving due east through Hampshire at the moment?
  7. About an inch here, not as much as a couple of weeks ago and it looks like it could thaw even quicker. Wasn't expecting anything though when temperatures climbed to 2.5c at about 2am so I'm not complaining!
  8. For the south east, Rob McElwee just said that if you're 30 miles inland there shouldn't be much of a thaw all day
  9. I'm quite surprised that it's still going here but it continues to snow moderately...
  10. By the by, did anyone notice the precipitation in northern France at about 5am? Plenty of white and red echoes - places like Boulougne must have got an absolute pasting!
  11. Is it me or is the precipitation moving through a couple of hours sooner than was expected? 15 miles north of Brighton here and according to meteo24.com it will have stopped snowing here by 7 - I thought we were likely to get snow/rain until about 9am.
  12. Snowing in Haywards Heath, by the look of the radar it's been precipitating since about 2am but I don't think it stuck right away as the temperature has dropped since I went to bed after midnight. Probably have about as much as two weeks ago - about an inch, which is lovely. Looks like it might be ending soon, which in a way might be a good thing, as it hopefully won't get the chance to turn to rain and get washed away.
  13. The radar on meteo24.com seems to suggest that the front will start pivoting about now, and it seems to become more compressed as it does this. Will this create a greater intensity in the precipitation? Click here
  14. Temperature climbing slowly but steadily here as the cloud comes in - will temperatures drop in heavy bursts of precipitation or are they likely to keep on rising from now on?
  15. The Peter Gibb forecast also showed snow right down to the coast for anywhere east of IOW at first, although there was an area of rain for southern counties as the front cleared away to the north at around 9am. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed mostly snowy even south of the M4, but we shall see!
  16. Exactly B) Interesting to see the metoffice disruption map - it's improved for southern areas with only the extreme coastal areas falling outside of the 70% disruption area. Previously, most of the southern counties - Doreset, Hampshire, E+W Sussex etc were firmly in the 30% area.
  17. It's all relative though isn't it? 'Significant' is more than what you are used to getting. For a lot of young people on here, particularly those of us that live in the south, 5-10cm is significant, because it rarely happens, if ever. Of course people who can remember are going to think back to the 70's and 80's and even before that and laugh at this little event, but to some, it is significant.
  18. Just been out for a fantastic walk - it's beautiful out there without a cloud in the sky and hardly a breath of wind. Really feels like the calme before the storm - whether I end up with rain, sleet, snow or a mix of all three, it's going to be drastically different in about 12 hours from now...
  19. Looking marginal for me here - I'm interested to see just how far inland it is necessary to be before the rain turns to proper snow. I'm about 15 miles inland here, and I just don't have a clue one way or the other. I won't be too disappointed if I miss out as I did quite well last month, but obviously I'd love a bit more! I shall be watching the radar closely tonight!
  20. Does anyone ever wish that the tv weather forecasts took up 25 minutes and then there was just a 3 minute news section on the hour, every hour? That way, they could go into detail and explain what they mean by "Rain is more likely close to southern coasts." Is that within 5 miles or 50 miles? Admittedly it would be boring during the times of zonality and the like, but at times like this I think it'd be a great idea. Seeing as England draws to a halt whenever there's any snow, there can't be much news anyway
  21. That might be the case in your location, but in the south, where most of the snow happened to fall in this spell of weather, 2-3cm is a big deal. I don't think anyone in their right mind would describe it as a pasting or anything like that, but it is significant, because it doesn't happen every year. I had 4-5 cm of snow on Wednesday which basically lasted for the morning. For people in favoured locations for snow, that might not seem like much, but for me it was quite major, because I've not seen that much snow lying in my location for quite some time. Therefore, personally speaking, it's been a good cold spell for me, even though it hasn't been at all potent nationwide. I suppose this cold snap just highlights the differences between the north and the south.
  22. It was pretty good here in West Sussex, more laying snow than I've seen in a few years, even if it didn't hang around for long.
  23. Snowing again here - looks like sporadic flurries might be the order of the day here...
  24. About 1.5 inches here, and it's started to snow again, albeit lightly
