  1. Great photo Ross, and some other nice photos being posted too. I've just been out in the fields while a storm passed overhead. It wasn't very photogenic so I didn't really get anything decent I don't think. Didn't manage to see any CGs but some of the thunder was pretty loud. My location today is a few miles east of York in a village called Warthill.
  2. It's very tricky on days like this. You look in quite a decent area, I don't think you would need to go too far. I don't know about the local characteristics around there but I would guess a little north or north west would be a good place to go. I could be completely wrong though. Last time I went out chasing I didn't see anything and while I was out, a storm hit Nottingham with quite a few strikes within a few miles of where I would have been. Good luck whatever you choose.
  3. Already a decent line of heavy showers starting to move up into Yorkshire. Got a good feeling about today and I'm quite happy with my current location at my girlfriends house just east of York. I'm not planning much chasing, I'll be waiting in the fields around here where I have good 360 views. I've always wanted to get some photos of corn fields with a big storm behind, maybe today is the day! Good luck everyone.
  4. Keeping an eye on the showers heading towards where I am now (5 miles east of York) Seems to be just showers now, no new sferics for a while unfortunately. Plenty of very good 360 views around here, so if anything does hit this area in the next few days I should be able to get some great views and hopefully some good pics.
  5. Storm over Nottingham looks decent. Shame I'm in York Looking good into the weekend so I'm hoping for something up here then, York normally seems to do ok for storms.
  6. Wow that's a very impressive storm, and great pictures too. Is that the end of your time in Norwich? If so then what a send off!
  7. Here's a couple of photos from this evenings storm as it approached... And this was what looked like the next storm on it's way, but it died before getting here...
  8. Well done Ian! The first part has passed over now, and the structure was great before it hit. Didn't see any close lightning, but there was one fairly loud rumble. Ready for the next part now.
  9. This is brilliant, beautiful structure as the storm moves in and now lightning and thunder getting louder. I so needed this after my chasing failure today. Pics coming up after it's passed.
  10. Yep, there's quite a lot of lightning strikes in that line. Infact I think I just heard some distant thunder
  11. Praying the storm near Stoke will make it here, after my disappointing chase it would really make my day. Didn't get many good photos today but I'll share the best of what I did get. Nice updraught near Harby... (or is it updraft? I'm never sure) This was the storm that hit Nottingham, this was taken at about 16:40 from a few miles south east of Nottingham... And this was just as I was moving under it on my way back home. This was at about 17:15...
  12. You're right, over time we will see more by going out chasing that we would by staying at home, so hopefully I can make up for today another time. I'm definitely not going back out today, I'm going to take my chances that the stuff out west will hit Nottingham again. Looks decent on radar but no sferics yet. Thanks for sharing that pic Mapantz, very nice.
  13. Well that was a hugely frustrating chase. Driven 60 miles and been out about 4 hours, and only heard one rumble of thunder, and didn't see any lightning. Every country road around here seems to have 10ft high hedges on either side of the road so I rarely got a good view of what was going on. Just as I gave up and headed back to Nottingham, I drove through a huge shower and that's where I heard my single rumble. I am also almost positive I saw a funnel a good way down from the cloud in my wing mirror, but as I was on a busy road with nowhere to stop I couldn't look for long or get any pics. I would have probably seen that from my window had I stayed in, I have a good view in that direction. I would also have seen a lot of close lightning strikes from my window looking back at the lightning detector. To make things worse I started a time lapse out my window before I went out, but decided to take the camera with me so I cancelled the time lapse and I didn't even end up using that camera once! So as you've probably guessed by now I'm gutted, sorry for that rant! Oh and that storm which passed Nottingham is now over the area I've been hanging around in all afternoon
  14. Sitting near Harby, south east of Nottingham but not much to report yet. Looks like I missed the best action I can see some of the towers from here to the north east. Got a good viewpoint though so I'm just waiting for this next shower.
  15. Last couple of updates very encouraging, so I'm off out now. I will try to get pics and video of anything exciting and share later, and if I manage to get internet, I might be able to give one or two updates while I'm out.
  16. I've got my eye on the line just west of Nottingham. I'm thinking as it moves further east towards Lincolnshire it might intensify and produce sferics. Waiting to see one more radar update then I'll probably go for a drive east. Only problem is my Three internet is awful in that area so I will probably have to go without radar again.
  17. Very dark to my south now. I'm really surprised there's no sferics in the Midlands yet, some of that ppn looks pretty intense. I might have to have a drive out east soon because I'm guessing once again the storms will start just after passing Nottingham and then hit Lincolnshire.
  18. Yes just noticed that, I hadn't looked at any parameters, only radar, but I've just checked the high res NMM charts and it looks like a quiet night here Hope others get some fun weather for the rest of the evening, without too much flooding.
  19. That line from Birmingham to Cambridge is looking very impressive, but I would like to see it moving north a little quicker if I'm to see anything here. Hope that rain over Wales and W Midlands doesn't cause any problems, looks like so high totals especially in parts of Wales. Thankfully no flood warnings anywhere in Wales at the moment though.
  20. I prefer http://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/live-webcams/ They are all up to date and you can see previous images and compare levels hour by hour. Some slow moving burst of heavy rain around here today, and although there has been a few strikes detected not too far away, I haven't seen or heard anything yet.
  21. Back in Nottingham now after my time in Stanley. It's like a monsoon here now, torrential rain for over half an hour now.
  22. I'm back up home now in County Durham, and I've just been woken up by very loud thunder and the sound of torrential rain. I wasn't expecting that! I think I missed most of it, I only heard the last rumble but it was very loud and long. That's got to be the best way of being woken up possible.
  23. Thanks Ian. I made it myself in Photoshop, and getting it printed by this person on Ebay... http://www.ebay.co.u...9#ht_634wt_1037 EDIT: I didn't actually make the symbols, I got the cloud, the lightning and the tornado from Google images, and just tweaked them a bit and added colour.
  24. I would be interested in this too. I loved my chase last Thursday and definitely want to get out more from now on. If I manage to get a job any time soon then it might become more difficult, unless I get the Civil Service job I'm being interviewed for tomorrow which has flexi-time. Already got myself a car sticker on the way but I'm not one for attracting attention to myself so I'm not sure if I'll actually put it in the car lol. I was thinking Paul you could maybe get some Netweather storm chaser stickers done for anyone who gets involved.
