  1. I'm finding it hard to get excited about todays (Saturdays) potential, after what happened on Thursday. The one thing about Thursday though, is that I struggled to get good photos and only really got video. Didn't manage to capture any CG's on video or photo so I'll be hoping for a chance to make up for that sometime soon. Hopefully some people who missed out on Thursday will get something later today. I can understand how frustrating it must have been to miss out.
  2. I think this needs to be framed and put on my wall, it's a piece of art... What a day!
  3. A repost from me too from the Midlands and N England thread... Highlights from my chase today... It really doesn't do justice to what I've seen today. It's strange but on the camera the visibility looks so much better when driving than in reality. There was one point when the structure what stunning, like I've seen in the US. By the time I found a place to stop I was under it so missed out on some good structure shots.
  4. My Youtube video is finally done... It really doesn't do justice to what I've seen today. It's strange but on the camera the visibility looks so much better when driving than in reality. There was one point when the structure what stunning, like I've seen in the US. By the time I found a place to stop I was under it so missed out on some good structure shots.
  5. Yes the hail was so much bigger than anything I've seen in the UK. The thuds on the car roof sounded like the thuds we get in the USA on the Netweather storm chase. I think the hail I witnessed was maybe 3cm max, looks like parts of Leicestershire have had double that. Gutted I missed that Sleaford tornado. Probably because I got caught up in the Olympic torch mayhem in Grantham which was infuriating. Had to sit in stationary traffic while a violent storm kicking out powerful CGs moved away. I did managed to catch up to the back end of it and take some more big hail and a couple of close strikes though. Got a video processing now of my highlights from today, but the video really doesn't do it justice. Also my Mam left work in Newcastle at 5pm, as of 9pm she still hadn't made it home to Stanley, which normally takes no more than 30 mins. It's been good down this way but I still wish I had been up there.
  6. My 10 mile trip east turned into a 4 hour storm chasing taking me almost to Sleaford. It's been an insane afternoon, so much adrenaline and excitement. I've seen loads of flooding, including some houses and shops, large hail, lightning, amazing structure and possible tornado damage near Welby, Lincs. Hardly ever had a signal so I had no radar for the whole afternoon, but thankfully I got myself in the thick of the action and got some pretty good videos. I'll get a video put together soon. Just been on the phone to my Gran in Jarrow and the rain there is so loud and frequent thunder too. Looks like my home region is being battered now.
  7. WOW amazing radar return near Leicester now, intensified massively in last 5 mins. I guess that could mean big hail. I'm off out east don't want to miss that!
  8. I think that's where I'm going to head now, to hopefully get near the most severe part of the next storm.
  9. Thinking of heading out about 10 miles or so east of Nottingham. Looking like the most severe part of the next storm is heading just east again. It's slowly increasing in size.
  10. Newbold Verden in Leicestershire looks to have been hit... https://twitter.com/...2153856/photo/1 Ironically there's just been a flypast of tornado jets over London.
  11. I'm keeping an eye on Twitter for reports, apparently reported tornado in Coven, Staffs. Been watching the skies to my south and west very closely but couldn't really spot any rotation, just clouds moving in opposite directions.
  12. Managed to get the narrowest part of the storm here in Nottingham, and there wasn't actually that many bright close flashes. Some thunder but nothing too loud. The best part passed here to the East, and I can still hear it booming now. Not very photogenic, but I've started a timelapse now as the cloud movement is interesting. Got my eye on the next one over Birmingham.
  13. I'm just north of Loughborough in Nottingham. It's getting close now. I'll get some pics and videos. Thunder getting louder now and lightning getting more frequent.
  14. https://twitter.com/_abigailbateman/status/218277108294750208/photo/1 Pic of flooding from Twitter. Think it's from Birmingham.
  15. I can hear very faint rumbles already in Nottingham. Surely there's no way it can miss here. I'll try to get some good footage to upload. What I really want is still photos of CGs but it seems like that will be very difficult with this storm as it's high based and so much rain obscuring the lightning.
  16. 'Brum' is trending on Twitter! It's a good source of info. West Mids Fire Service say they are taking 'flood related calls' now. Darkening slightly here now.
  17. Netweather convective forecast for today, just noticed it now... http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=convective;sess= I'm right in the middle of the moderate box. I might have to save that map as it could be some time before that happens again.
  18. So I guess we're expecting further developments behind this big storm? I surely have a chance of seeing more lightning today than I saw in the whole of Tour 1 on last years storm chase lol. Wow Brum cam has gone so dark now http://brumcam.co.uk/
  19. Birmingham is about to disappear into the storm... http://brumcam.co.uk/ Earlier it looked like those storms would pass to my east, but now it looks on target to hit Nottingham. If it can just keep it's intensity it will definitely be my best UK storm since August 31st 2005 back in the North East. Only 3 hours sleep but I feel more awake than ever! This is better than all the energy drinks I drink.
  20. This really looks like being an amazing day by UK standards. That storm in Wales looks extremely active and there has been 2,576 strikes detected in the last hour, mainly in that area! 5,972 strikes so far today! Must be huge amounts of energy to give such a strong storm at this time in the morning, this seems more like something you would see in the USA.
  21. It was FIFA 12 and F1 2011 that kept me up, and 2 cans of Relentless! I thought about not going to bed but I need some rest so that I'm on the ball later, especially if I need to head out and chase.
  22. I feel very sad seeing the pictures from Colorado. I know these fires are always horrible wherever they hit, but having been through Colorado it's such a beautiful place, especially Colorado Springs. Hard to see so many homes destroyed and so many thousands of acres of beautiful landscape ruined. Hope it is brought under control ASAP before too much more damage is done.
  23. I'm keeping an eye on that over Ireland, my girlfriend has a flight out of Dublin at about 08:00 so I'm hoping there aren't any delays there. Looking forward to this afternoon so much, got both cameras charged and memory cards cleared ready. I'm trying not to get too excited but I'm anticipating my best UK storm for a good few years. If this all goes wrong I will be very sad tomorrow night lol. Anyway I don't know what I'm doing still awake at this time, there's no storms anywhere near here, going to bed now or else I'll never go, already feeling hungry for my breakfast. 3 hours and I'll be up again for all the fun and games Edit: Just looking at the radar and after flooding problems in NI already yesterday, there's a huge lump of very heavy rain heading towards NI now. Could be an interesting morning rush hour there.
  24. Sounds too good to be true! Maybe finally the move to Nottingham will pay off in terms of storms. Camera batteries charged and I'll be ready to chase if I need to, but I can't go far because the olympic torch is passing here tomorrow and roads around here are closed from 4pm so traffic will be a nightmare, so I'm hoping for a direct hit. I know I shouldn't get too excited but this feels like Christmas Eve.
