  1. I think the actual device will export to any software that supports it e.g weather display. But i agree a handheld option is much more suitable for the few storms we manage to get, and also unlike the bolteks you dont need a pc to work them as their stand alone.
  2. Well if your refering to the boltek kit, theres a gizmo (procesosr) that first measures the strength and signature thus giving a rough distance, and it also has a digital internal compass that can work out the direction it came from via the antena. It then takes that data and becuase the map has millions of reference codes on it, it takesa the readings and puts it on the specific code that matches, this will put it in the approx postion. Then it takes alot of tinkering around to get it spot on, like you would need a thunderstorm to be able to adjust it so that the plots where in the correct setup. Anyone would think i had one .
  3. Lovely day today very warm indeed. Just a little experiance report from today : had a very strong wirlwind. Was sat by a small area of water, and all the time i was sat there there was no wind at all, then wind startred to pick up from the west not a gust but a constant wind and quickly got stronger and stronger and lots of big swirling ripples on the water, then it hit and dust/debris starting rotating around me and a relitly large area, qucikly dissapeared though. It was just like a tornado hitting but smaller ofcourse. Its the biggest and storngest i have ever experianced and covered a wide area, must have been the heat that triggered it. Right back to weather conditions, Temp currently 20.7c (todays max) Dew 3.6c 33% RH 1021 Stable 5.7MPH from the south Station prediction - Clear sunny weather next 24hrs
  4. The best lightning device is a Boltek but your talking a small fortune £500+ to pay for it then buy the map underlay. They are amazingly accurate (after alot of tweaking) , best of all you get a live map of the uk on your pc and as soon as there is a strike it plots it and gives data about it. Not sure the technology in it justifies the price though as you can buy a basic detector ( 1 wire) for about £40, that gives amount of strikes a min distance etc, but no map. B) Stuart Harvey posted a link to a better device than strikealert allthough alot more expensive, definetly worth the money.
  5. Thinking about buying that before the summer gets going, great little device miles better than the strikealert
  6. Nice , may consider gettng one of those
  7. hmm, i think if you want something thats portable looks ok, but if you want accuracy then its only the bolteks im afraid. It looks pretty good though
  8. Lovely sunset here currently Max today was 21.3c currently 17.6c
  9. I was supposed to be getting myself one of those but unfortunetly funds have dried up a little, but if i had £500 yep i would go for it.
  10. Looks like the team are missing out at the mo, although they may be able to see some of the cells.
  11. The cell i posted a minute ago, looks like this (this webcam is behind the storm that i pointed out)
  12. got a TVS now, and check out cell m3, developing a hook and also signature on VV. here it is ( middle left), its a real conker of a storm may well be on the verge of becoming a supercell (this is heading straight for the guys)
  13. Yep can see mid level rotation on that one, the top goes up to around 40,000ft. and just look at the VIL on S0 cell. I rekon cell t1 will have a tornado very soon if not at the moment, this should move right through the middle of Beckham, which part are the team in? (if reference to the position in the state).
  14. there was a thread about Strikealerts, hand held pager like lightning detector: http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?s...ndpost&p=671967
  15. 2 severe warnings just poped up both in TX in Pecos state.1 developing Mescocyclone now on the scope in cell j0. It looks to pass to the northern sector of Beckam, so your very well placed for this cell - Two full blown mescocyclones now in this cell and its heading straight for northern part of beckam, rotational echo now on VV scope, could well produce a tornado, its now developing a hook, wow this storm is really building fast, adn 2 distinct cells in the storm, just waiting from them to converge.
  16. Yep cheers for that Paul looks like a nice cell to your west, can you see it yet? Tops up to 30,000ft.
  17. Hi paul, sorry to ask a stupid question but is that county visible on the oklahoma radar? -its ok , got it (currently logged on GRLEVEL3) , a very nice cell to the east of you, to the east of oklahoma city.
