  1. Pretty much yeah. Mind 22 degrees there in January would be beautiful because the sun would not be anywhere near as intense, but still strong enough.
  2. Yeah 22 degrees in the winter sounds great, and to be fair so does 28 degrees in the summer. The thing is though, the sun at that time of year at that latitude is so intense that it's almost unbearable. Think of the difference in sun strength at any given time of the year between England and say Majorca, it's very noticeable. Well then you've got the same difference again between say Majorca and Tenerife. So the difference between England and Tenerife is huge. I mean even in Southern England in June/July, if the shade temperature is 28, the sun temperature can be over 45 and pack some real heat. I've been to various Med locations in high summer with shade temperatures of 28, 32, 35 and it feels very much hotter again out in the sun. Once went to Tenerife at the back end of July and some days were "only" 26 degrees in the shade, some were 30 or 32 obviously, but out in the sun it was unbelievably intense heat - never felt anything like it, I bet it was 60 degrees. The Canaries are 28N latitude, not a million miles North of the Tropic of Cancer, the northern boundary of where the sun is directly overhead in mid summer. So looking at shade temperatures and thinking "ooh 22 and 28, looks perfect" can sometimes give you a false impression of how hot it really is.
  3. There seems to be an band of heavy snow organising itself 10 miles out to sea and it's moving towards the cost. Hopefully it won't lose too much intensity and a few people may get a good half an hour from it.
  4. It should pass through in half an hour or so. There are a few more showers out to sea, whether they will amount to anything is hard to tell.
  5. Nah, and they seem to be dissipating as soon as they hit land anyway. Light snow here at the moment.
  6. 5cm on the grass here and 3-4cm over pavements, I find it hard to get excited over such laughable totals. The trouble is that it will compact down really quickly and turn into a skating rink.
  7. 1.7º here. We have 3-4cm of snow, but it's drip, drip, drip from the trees and roofs and very wet snow underfoot. I can see it melting on the paths again. Any chance of anymore overnight?
  8. Still snowing moderately here but the snow does seem to be the wet claggy stuff that starts thawing as soon as it stops.
  9. Showing moderately heavily in Newton Aycliffe and laying.
  10. Cloud is still well broken here, I fear I might be too far inland.
  11. Kin ell, I never knew that the GFS was specific enough to locate your eye at 96 hours!
  12. Same as everyone else really, 2-3cm lying over grass but now slushy on pavements. Temperature up to 2.4º and we've even had a little bit of sun.
  13. Snow seems to have stopped here. There seems to be about a real 3cm down, which is the equivalent of 8 feet of snow according to your average forum poster. Bummer.
  14. Snowfall now intensified from light to moderate, with good sized flakes. It seems to be sticking quite easily too.
  15. Yep, light snow in Newton Aycliffe. Proper sized flakes too. We're looking good to go all over the North East.
  16. Well I haven't woken up to much snow. After going to bed to full cover I've woken up to see that the snow has melted on concrete and tarmac, with only cars, roofs and grass having a thin covering. Foggy as well.

  18. Still snowing here mind, even showing signs of lying in places.
  19. Stupidly light snow falling here, there's a bit of whiteness on car roofs etc.
  20. 2.9º and raining. Lovely. Still plenty of ice in my street which of course is now treacherous.
  21. Aaaaaaah! I remember that week well - we got buried! In fact I remember watching that actual forecast1
  22. Hmm, that is not good for us lowlanders. Looks like I can expect the temperature to rise to 3.5-4º before the precipitation arrives, using your temp as a guide. Currently -0.6º
  23. And the best thing (if you like long lasting snow and ice) about the weakness of the sun in December is that nothing melts quickly. Get to February, even late January, and it's a different story. Optimum freeze time = late November to early January.
