Hi Guys, long time no see
I have to do a bit of planning for the weekend so any pointers would be handy.
I plan to drive down from Nottingham to Wokingham Saturday evening - should I bring a flask of soup & a shovel eh? just in case the front does indeed stall....
Then my plans are to drive back up early Monday morning - a wise move? or should I make contingency plans to delay my trip back till Tuesday??
I know there is still alot of uncertainty, but any tips will be welcome.

Excellent:D was much fun!

TV back on now, just in time for the forecast
More Thunder in Wales & NW England tomorrow afternoon/evening
Now it's been forecast - it's scuppered
-
Looking to my Northeast - black clouds still flickering with lightning & rumbling with thunder
Looking to my Southwest - nice blue skies
That was the best storm in years!
edit: that blue sky is rapidly filling in! lol
-
Cracking storm been going on here since 6 o clock. Heavy rain frequent cc lightning and in the last few mms a few cg strikes too. Very very heavy rain at the moment.
Brilliant aint it?
-
Well storm 2 is still going on, brilliant! not seen anything like this in the 7 years I've been here.
Sky & Freeview still off!!!
-
Well thats a first..
Power went off for a few seconds and now the Sky signal has gone kaput
-
2 storms here as well so far
1st at approx 2.30pm Plenty of thunder, IC lightning. Torrential rain. Lasted approx 30 mins
2nd been going off for half hour or so. Constant deep rumbles of thunder, a few CG & IC strikes seen. Still carrying on as I type - still feeling rather humid and skies to my south are black.
-
Tis great here
Almost constant deep rumbles of thunder, seen a few CG strikes
-
That was a nice little storm earlier - rainfall was stupendous!
Hoping for some more as there seems to be alot of dark clouds heading this way.
-
Can report a nice storm starting here
Real deep booms of thunder a couple per minute
-
Yes, good call Nick - one of the few to forecast the storms correctly!
-
Seems to be a funny thing about the Northwest of England. When t/storms are forecast nothing happens. When nothing is generally forecast we seem to get something unexpectedly.
Has happened the last 2 or 3 storms but I'm not complaining!
-
Same here Tim, no precip (unless it happened before I woke!) but a few nice flashes of lightning & some thunder.
Reminds me of that night last year when something similar happened unexpectedly
-
Ditto Tim!
Bit of a weakling but at least it's something. Not technically a storm but I'll take anything these days!
-
Well this event has turned in to a big disappointment for the north west, just a damp squib without so much as a rumble.
Well mate it could have been worse..
You could have been in Nottingham yesterday until a couple of hours before their storms, and had to drive back up here - like I had to! Got a text not long after I'd got back here telling me about the fantastic thunder & lightning down there - Gutted!....

Ryanair plane enroute to Stansted has had to make a landing at Belfast Airport

Unusual smell onboard etc etc

OOh the IR camera has suddenly gone very colourful

Yes the ash looks more troublesome but you only need to worry if you're going across the pond. otherwise bar the odd Tourist or engineer nothing too see.
I posted a few weeks ago regarding my Boss who was due to fly out to Florida the day after the airports initially closed in April.
Well he managed to get out there a week later - not very happy but at least holiday wasn't cancelled.
He is due to fly back on Sunday.............................................................oh dear!......
Poor sod - the last time he went to Florida a few years back he was delayed a week due to a hurricane

Has anyone got a live webcam view at the moment. I have not been able to access one for
several hours now.
All the Mila/Vodafone ones are now restricted to icelanders only which is understandable as they need the info the most.
Closest to 'live' is this one
http://www.mulakot.net/myndavelar.html 3rd pic down, just keep refreshing it
-

Never thought I'd say this but at times like this I love being a part-time Southerner
