  1. i too saw that plane disappear off the map ohmy.gif

the KLM flight is flying pretty low Alt: 1950feet (594 m)

i am at a loss as to whether KLM are doing the right thing or not. if the cloud level is high enough to fly under than how much of a risk is it to fly traffic unknw.gif

I am absolutely livid about this.

Who the hell do KLM think they are?

It was only 2 years ago they were in the X-Factor and even then they didn't win. Now they are trying to tell us when it's safe to fly.

Reminds me of the time that the Bay City Rollers told everyone 'Betamax is the future'

    Disgusting

    I blame Simon Cowell

  2. Another big pulse. At the end of the day no one knows what the volcano is going to do next. It wasn't long ago one of the experts was saying no eruption was likely. This present eruption gave very little notice.

Totally agree PIT - it's anyones guess

    For example..

"The volcanic activity has essentially stopped," said Einar Kjartansson, a geophysicist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office. "I believe the eruption has ended."

The above quote was made last Monday.

  3. if that aircraft went down because of ash then it shows you this ban on flying is justified...

wont know whats happened just yet for a while...

i bet its put the fear up pilots flying light aircraft

as anyone got a live cam

Hopefully it's not the ash that caused it. Generally a light aircraft wouldn't be affected - just has a powerful combustion engine and the ash wouldn't cause any harm.

However if it's a turbo-prop type..... well thats a different story, turbo engine therefore same problem as with a jet engine so would be very very bad news indeed.

  4. where did you get those last two images Mondy, the detail is fantastic.

    LO

    http://www.vodafone.is/eldgos/en

Live feed from the Vodafone webcam - as you say, great detail!

My gaffer was due to fly out to Florida yesterday - been re-scheduled for next Sunday (as it stands subject to change!!)

The poor bugger - last time he went on holiday out there, the flight was delayed a week (outbound journey) because of a hurricane!

  5. Staying over in Mansfield area this weekend, been snowing for past hour or so. Very light at first but coming down nicely now. Probably got 3cm or so at the mo. Driving back up north this afternoon so should be an interesting trip!

sorry for the double post. Damn phones lol. Just to say to Karen am staying near Sutton and it,s now belting it down. About 2 inch snow now and rising!

  6. You are very welcome on this thread. Inverness "city" is on sea level and snow normally melts fairly quickly. The surrounding areas on the higher ground find the snow lying a lot longer with more of it. If this coming spell is an exception then i would continue with your visit and enjoy!!smile.gif

Well the visit has been rescheduled till 1st week June (kids school holiday and all that)

Got a few days off still so may visit Little-Fluffybottom-upon-Thames

Oh, and thanks for the usual warm Scots welcome smile.gif

  7. Haha some right spats over there isn't there.

Well I'm supposed to be in Inverness visiting the relatives for a few days, but was advised to postpone it for a while due to the upcoming *cough* 'event'

This thread here is the best one around right now (however edged out on toy throwing by the model thread) - hope you don't mind me hanging around here, the good old Northwest one is very quiet at the moment!

  8. Gawd if it's just gonna be that easterley the SE thread will be going mad again!

Lets face it, if 20 grains of graupel fall in a small hamlet in Essex, there are about 40 pages of posts about it in the thread.

In the space of 5 minutes whistling.gif

    Bless 'em biggrin.gif

End of week might be fun for me, I drive up to Inverness for a few days on Saturday 13th.

  9. Why would someone from Lancashire be reading the London / SE thread? Would that be your little inferiority complex rearing it's ugly head again? whistling.gif Yup, thought so.

ooh that was a little touchy

bear in mind i wasn't taking the pee was I?

    Ah well...... rolleyes.gif

ps why would someone from down south be reading the Northwest Thread *ahem* pardon.gif

  10. it was looking like the best snow event from this cold spell, as all ive have is a measly 0.5cm yes 0.5cm, which has remained in place due to the sub zero temps, it will soon be gone now.

can anyone explain as to where the milder air has come from?

It's them bleedin southerers sending their softy warm air across. lol

Raining in Kent, at least so far we don't have that mate! they can keep it, would sooner have a 'dry' thaw than rain and slushy mush mellow.gif

  11. Too right James M - oh and I drove over to Delph for a meeting Friday morning, to say the drive over the hills was 'scenic' is a vast understatement!

Anyone reading the London & SE thread?

Poor buggers are very unhappy bunnies

At least on this thread we are a bit more philosophical about things drinks.gif
