  1. I remember that day. 7C and wet!
  2. Actually managed a dry day with plenty of sunshine. A different day to come tomorrow.
  3. Almost certainly. Already had thunder and lightning during the early hours. We may come in and out like a lion and behave like a lamb in the middle like 2015.
  4. Yes I was woken by the first thunder, then came the next very loud bang. Almost overhead.
  5. Well spring has been remarkably dry here so far...
  6. We could of course end up with a spring/summer like 2014 following that horrendous winter. March transitioned nicely and April was homogenously warm, although May was unsettled. Presumably it’s possible to have a monster PV that just waves through spring and doesn’t go to the loo all over the mid latitudes following season’s end.
  7. Exactly. Of recent years, only 2014 and 2017 were what I would class as ‘bad’. Here at least August 2017 was even a very usable month, it just wasn’t summery apart from the odd day here and there and the BH hot spell. 2018 grew gradually worse as it went on. Last year had fine weather in the first and final third but had a garbage filler. 2016 was very decent here. Ive always thought that August does its own thing when June and July are either great or terrible.
  8. Yesterday was just vile but much better today. Sunny spells and two brief hail showers so far.
  9. You timed your visit very well. Indeed that was the lengthiest dry spell of the ‘winter’. Even managed some frost! #shockhorror
  10. That chart does look like something out of December lol! Some decent wintry potential on that (yes the p word).
  11. Haha, certainly the smell of BBQ! I enjoyed the five minutes of relative warmth between business and leaving...
  12. Been away in Texas for a week and just arrived back to some wonderful cloudscapes. Wide reaching anvils and sleet showers, but boy does that wind bite!
  13. It is after all the less hot periods that tend to last longer (like July last year), rather than the plumes that see the sudden spike in temperature quickly followed by the Atlantic. I'd be quite happy with the same. Most important for me is the sunshine! Especially April-August. A sunny September/October would also be nice and a bit of a bonus.
  14. Given how the first half of March normally is, I’d welcome that with open arms after what we’ve endured. Somehow I don’t think it would be very prolonged until that AO drops significantly but any dry interludes are most welcome. Later into March might be better for a dry settled spell. Nothing scientific there, just a tendency after Atlantic dominated winters.
  15. Had a nice view of lightning in that band that’s just arrived, driving along the M4 towards Bristol. Just arrived home to squally hail and sleet splodges.
  16. Bone dry out there now because the wind is suddenly very gusty. 14mm on Saturday after Friday’s 4mm.
  17. You made it until mid October. Down here the monsoon began late on September 21st. It’s certainly the most protracted period of such weather and associated boredom I can remember. Not a good period for weather enthusiasts at all.
  18. The ground was waterlogged here by mid October with a lot of surface runoff in hillier areas, so yeah, the last 3 months have not helped one bit, albeit January and February being less wet overall. Could be all change this weekend though! Quite an unusual setup for the time of year.
  19. Except 2002 which took until the equinox to settle down. That final week was very pleasant.
  20. Indeed; certainly not a time of year associated with rain and gales. That was a notable cold spell! I think the further north you were the better. Down here there was some snow in the showers on the 26th but the main enjoyment factor was the convective skies and thunder. 14th April 1999 remains the latest snowfall here in my lifetime.
  21. Not me. Sure, if it does happen then fine, but it's so infrequent I'd much rather some classic April shower days or a sunny area of high pressure.
