My trip to Flaine in two weeks now looking much better! Hopefully we'll be able to ski everywhere and into some of the lower valleys.

These would be perfect synoptics, fingers crossed the GFS is onto something!
-
I am currently going to Flaine at the end of Jan but considering cancelling it if things don't look like changing.
-
I'll go for 5.6c please

Our flat is usually quite warm but came in tonight and the temp was 15c!

I definitely just saw some lightning flash off to the East.
I'd say there is about 4cm here. We're now in a gap on the radar but hoping the next blob will reach us as it moves North West. But to be honest, it's already been better than I expected.
-
It's snowing lightly here and settling. It seemed to start with a bit of freezing rain.
Looking at the radar I may be just far enough North to get some heavier precipitation.

It's below 0 in central London so got to be a widespread frost everywhere tonight.

I'm going to revise my guess down to 4.2c

WOW. That was one of the most intense storms I’ve ever experienced in the UK.
It was calm and light and suddenly within a few seconds it turned apocalyptic. Roaring wind, rain, hail, lightning, low visibility. Loved it!
My view from north London:
It was very similar here when it came through. Very heavy rain and gusty winds with low visibility for maybe 5 minutes. I must admit I expected more lightning but it was pretty impressive all the same. From the netweather radar it looks like the lightning picked up as it went further North.

Mild and unsettled into November. Theres no sign of the MJO phase 6 chart becoming reality... and im not having a go at anyone, because i too had predicted it to turn colder by the end of the month based on a phase 6 composite and one or two synoptic charts suggesting it was going to build. I have serious doubts over the MJOs real affect on our patterns, because these phase composit charts never seem to become reality ... unless anyone can correct me.
There needs to be enough amplitude, otherwise other factors override the signal. Also, is it not the GWO, which includes the affect of the MJO amongst other things, that is more significant on the outcome for us?
You used to be able to get GWO composites, not sure if they're still available anywhere.

There is a red 70% chance of new formation in the next 48 hours out in the Atlantic that needs watching. Still at 70% chance out to 5 days.

Short but intense storm around midnight the most noticeable aspect was the derecho style winds and horizontal rain stuff clattering around all over
The line of storms had a bit of a C look to it when it passed over London. Some pretty gusty winds which were never too extreme but were all blowing the direction of the front.
I did observe that the runway direction was switched at Stansted when the line passed over suggesting quite an abrupt change in wind direction.

To be fair, the rain has eased off and the lightning has picked up. Some bright strobe like flashes and one just now right overhead.

It can't be that bad, I've just seen a plane fly over heading to Heathrow.
-
Heavy rain has started here but I could see more lightning when the sky was clear and I could look out towards Kent. There are a few distant rumbles. Very much feels like thundery rain at the moment but still time to intensify.

I saw one in a garden near St Ives, Cambridgeshire last Sunday. I don't think I've seen one before.

Net weather had Aboyne at 0.4c

There were some planes holding out near Basildon, they're now making a direct route towards Heathrow ahead of that storm heading over the Thames. It seems to be the last active bit heading North.

A few flashes and some decent rumbles of thunder but I thought it might be a bit more exciting looking at the radar.
It's gone absolutely dead. Just rain now.

Woken up and seen a couple of elevated flashes here but no thunder. Radar looks tasty over in the channel though.

It looks like some heavy snow forecast in Austria for the back end of the week.
